Steam should start demanding no second logins on there platform and start culling games that do and refund. It's getting annoying.

Anyway steam should offer a refund for people anyway as the deal got altered.
When it’s required, yes they should. Same thing with MS accounts on Playstation. Because right now these platform-holder publishers just want to leech on Steam’s popularity and lock people in with accounts, at first to boost MAU numbers and later to lure people away to their own thing in the future. It’s all trojan horses, and that’s not a joke and you’ll all find out eventually.
Plus, when something isn’t available everywhere it shouldn’t be allowed to implement a change like this. People quite literally won’t be able to play a game they bought. And if they go some shady vpn route, which shouldn’t be needed and is another layer of hassle, I think they’re breaking TOS rules.

If it works without it in the first place without PSN accounts, then why make it mandatory?
Because it's their product, and they can do whatever they want to do with it. And as highlighted above, it was always required but was temporarily disabled due to issues.

Instead of crying about it and forcing Sony to serve them exactly how they want to be served, PC players should just refund the game if they want to stand by their value system.

Of course should refund but don't be angry with them for leaving bad reviews because they did buy the game and likely not aware of the PSN requirement.

Not every Steam user.

I only have a Steam account because 10-15 years ago I bought these fine PC games on disc:
- Serious Sam HD FE
- Serious Sam HD SE
- Serious Sam 3
- Age of Wonders 3

I was in for a nasty surprise when I ran the installer from disc and found out that I was forced to make a Steam account in order to play the games that I paid for.

I haven't bought a single game on Steam since then, but technically I am Steam user because I recently logged in in order to join the Sweet Baby Inc detected group.

Why the fuck weren't they informed before buying it? This is an outrage!
PSN account required. Gameplay requires internet access and paid for PlayStation Plus membership (sold separately) on PS5. PlayStation Plus membership subject to recurring subscription fee taken automatically until cancellation. Age restrictions apply. Full terms: play.st/psplus-usageterms.
Oh, no, not that... They must not have read that.

Or that.

Or that.
Account Linking
Some players are having trouble linking their PSN accounts to their game in the initial setup screen. They may see an error code indicating a server request problem. For now, you can skip that screen and play normally. Later—after we resolve those server request errors—the game will ask people who skipped that screen to try linking their accounts again.
Or that.

Agreed, but I want to add that you can make a PSN account.

I live in a country where PSN isn't available. I made a US PSN account and have been using it for years now.
What I’m wondering is, how will Sony handle that? Surely, they won’t tell people, "just pick a region and make up some fake information"? They actively encourage against that, so how will they position this?

The game launched without you requiring a PSN account, regardless of what it says on that Steam profile page. You was given the option to bypass it. Sony will now deny those users access to a game they paid for if they don’t have a PSN account. I’m almost certain that Valve will start honouring refunds even months after release.

This is also a violation of Sony’s T&C. They can and have the right to terminate your account. Not everyone is willing to take that risk.

They disabled it until it was fixed.

According to this post it was taken at the earliest on February the 8th, so yes it was there on release date

Well can't argue with that.

I guess we'll see if it will hurt the game for PC in the long run.

It did not REQUIRE it. It was an option, otherwise people would've been forced to create one from the start.

Regardless of what it says there, if it was required like they've suggested it was, it wouldn't have allowed the option to skip it. If it was bugged that's on them, not on the end user.

I read through alot of steam reviews right now and most reviews just mention that they canr make a psn account because its hacked every month.

I dont know but it's illegal to talk stuff about people and companies which ain't true and can damage them. Well at least where I live.

But one could argue the skip means do it later, yet you still have to do it.
I agree. Despite that, they allowed them to consume the game without requiring it. They also changed their policy on their website in the last 24 hours which suggested the contrary.

This?
Do I have to sign in to PSN to play a PlayStation game on PC?
  • Some PlayStation games may require you sign in and link to an account for PSN.
Still needs updating.
Supported PlayStation games on PC
Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales The Last of Us Part I
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart UNCHARTED™: Legacy of Thieves Collection
Returnal

It should have been worded better.

Say the person clicks SKIP IT, then it should be followed by confirmation that goes along saying PSN will be required but temporary disabled for now to fix server issues.

The obvious reason is Sony wanting to coast people into PSN accounts and getting to know PlayStation ecosystem a bit. It's just more money. maybe they will like it and get console in the future since sony makes more money selling games on console and on psn. simple as that.
They are the devil because they want to make more money. The requirement was there since release day. Nobody bought the game not knowing that.

As for other stuff? Maybe PSN account helps with cheaters or something. probably not, idk.

Link to those posts? Sony has never banned anyone on consoles for VPN. And you don't even need VPN to create PSN account (unless you live in China or Russia, tough luck then).
The dumbest thing is that the thing hasn't even gone live. So any existing players don't need an account until 4th June. Who would be trying to play an online game through a VPN with all that added latency for no reason right now? You don't even need a VPN for any of this since you can create a relevant account from any part of the world. People are trying to find ways to make it a bigger deal than it is for the outrage machine to seem less whinny.

He's right though, if they were in Japan they'd be fucked. Good thing they moved to Cali and the users probably aren't Japanese.

Good question.

In my opinion, Sony should have an 'Others' or 'Global' region setting for cases like this one / mine. Let's see how they tackle it.
