"You know they were Jewish, right?"

Some good gore but it still feels like it's building to something bigger. This episode felt like a pipe-laying one.

Well it is a 5 hour (first) season :D definitely has some random encounters along the way to get Ash in funny situations and locations.

He's showing up on either Jane the Virgin or Crazy Ex Girlfriend?!

Really really enjoying this, and all the subtle (or not so subtle - Mimi Rogers singing) nods to the movies, and Bruce Campbell basically delivering on all cylinders.

I'm liking this show so much, it has me buying the 3 older movies on bluray.

Can't even remember the last time I saw them, was years. I do remember Army of Darkness, is by far my favorite. Don't remember the first two.

Get the new Scream Factory version of Army of Darkness. It has four cuts of the film, and a wonderful documentary about the making of the film. In fact, the documentary is longer than the film itself.

Fun fact I didn't know until the documentary, Patricia Tallman, aka Lyta from Babylon 5, was the possessed she bitch that Ash fought in the film.

So how is this show doing?

I watched the second episode tonight and it was just as great as the first. It also just flew by, I couldn't believe it was over when the credits rolled!

Yet the term 'Deadites' is used, which if I recall correctly was created for the name of the undead army in Army of Darkness.
And Boomstick, and Groovy and 'basically' as a quote. And that windmill at the end of Ep 2. AOD is all over the place in references.

Anyway he needs a better fake hand. Maybe he can develop another robot one.

Ah yeah. Been a few years. But the other stuff.

I mean it's only called a 'boomstick' because primitives wouldn't understand what a twelve-gauge double-barrelled Remington was. Or about alloys and compositions for that matter.

Yeah, that is the one I'm going to get for Army of Darkness, 3 disc collectors edition from Shout!

There is an Evil Dead 2 25th Anniversary, and The Evil Dead. I'm guessing the first one doesn't have a CE/LE, its just the movie.

This is the fake shemp the show has been missing.

Ash VS Evil Dead sees massive ratings drop by nearly 50% since premiere (280,000, .1 demographic):

http://www.spoilertv.com/2015/11/final-adjusted-tv-ratings-for.html

I believe it's not lower then the "now canceled" Da Vinci Demons. What a shame. Seems like every single show I like is bombing. I wonder if they will pull the season 2 order or if we will still get that at least. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Thankfully it's already been renewed. But yeah, not great. Hopefully the digital numbers are good.

It seems like Starz has had a hell of a time getting their shows going. I know Black Sails and Power are their bigger shows, but it seems like this one should've been their biggest hit.

The Brink got renewed and then canceled after the season was over.

Not unthinkable that the plug is pulled after the renewal.

Comedy Horror is a hard sell for the masses. Every medium-to-big budget entry the genre sees is a blessing we should be thankful for.

Can you imagine if this season ends on a massive cliffhanger followed by cancellation? Such is the life of Evil Dead fans. Embrace it.

To be honest, I don't think this is a surprise to Starz. Their programming is on one of the worst evenings, with no active live viewer base, and highly dependent on on-demand viewing.

I thought a Season 2 was already announced? Would be a shame if it gets canceled so soon. If it does, then I won't watch Starz. I actually haven't in years since Ash came on.

It matters precisely 0% that it's been announced, if the ratings continue to plummet they will cancel it.

Yea airing this on Saturday is super dumb.

Whatever happens, I hope they get enough warning to make a proper ending whenever that may be. I could be quite happy with 2 seasons with a proper ending.

Just dont cut it off mid season 2, or cancel the second season after the s1 finale has already been filmed. That kinda shit hurts. However long this ride is, it needs a good ending.

The entire season is already filmed either way. So Season 1 is either going to end on a cliffhanger or it won't, and nothing about the ratings or Season 2 getting cancelled will change that. Season 2 should start filming soon provided the renewal sticks, so hopefully they have some advance notice if the season gets confirmed as the final one or if it is cut short.

I imagine this would be one of their better selling series on blu-ray, DVD, and digital when the season is finished. Sell it below $39.99 MSRP, then most retailers have it for less than $20, I could see a lot of Evil Dead fans picking it up.

Why did it end up on Starz to begin with? Probably should have went with a better network, or hell a streaming service.

A cliffhanger can be resolved in a future movie or series, a rushed ending stays rushed forever.

Not that you necessarily implied otherwise, but I think the days of physical media sales having a significant impact on series renewals are behind us.

If it flops at least we'll get a 2nd season and they have enough time to prepare for a nice finale.

Maybe they should have did a movie instead. Who knows what the costs are for a movie compared to a TV show. The TV show on now seems like it has a nice budget already.

I'd make a bet that it's about a million an episode. They are shooting in New Zealand and getting those tax breaks. So 10 episodes equals 10 million bucks.

If the ratings really flatline they'll just cancel it. It's not like a network hasn't ever reversed a decision for an additional season. They're not going to continue investing in the show if it's doing that poorly for them.

Streaming and DVD/Blu sales may make it profitable.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Really curious about the on demand numbers. Both episodes were available before the intended first airing.

Anecdotally I've watched both episodes so far on demand, and I would really be surprised to find out I'm an outlier.

Just caught the first episode. I couldn't be happier. Evil Dead 2 is my favourite movie of all time and other than the CGI gore (which is a whole other topic) it was perfect. I hope the whole season is this good.

I'd help with the ratings, but my only option for watching the show in Canada is a $48/mo cable package. Count me in for the Blu-rays, I guess.

That's not great, but ratings usually drop in the second week. It's still early yet.

There is no precedent for that at Starz.

Yea airing this on Saturday is super dumb.

It's actually super smart because very few other channels air original scripted series on Saturdays. If it aired on Sunday or any other day of the week, it would easily get lost in the shuffle. Big fish in small pond, etc.

Well then, Bruce and Lucy Lawless are on Late Show and immediately dropped the story behind her character on the show. It is a fun interview, but just be aware of a big spoiler about her if you are sensitive about it.

But totally worth it for the story about the viscera cannon and Bruce doing his Colbert impression.

Thanks for the heads-up, was going to watch that tomorrow but I'll hold off until the information is revealed in the show. I like that she's this mysterious character we know nothing about.
