One more day! So jealous of you folks who are getting to watch this tomorrow night. Funny enough today on my vacation I randomly ran into Evil Ash! Thankfully someone trapped him in a glass tube.
That's pretty cool!
This takes me back to when I was a 17 year old lad in the simpler times of 1998. I was so tired of waiting for Evil Dead 4 to happen that I ended up making a 16-bit rpg based on the series (tentatively named Evil Dead Timeline then to Tales of the Evil Dead). I used the OHRRPGCE (Official Hamster Republic Role Playing Game Construction Engine) to make the game. It was a mixed between turn based, Dragon Quest styled battle system, survival horror moments (you can only save indoors, and may have to run from battles often), and point and click adventure elements.
Story wise this game would've followed its own timeline (pun intended thank you). After Ash drinks the potion he instead wakes back up in the woods where the cabin was (the two AoD endings were among the many dreams he was having during his long sleep). It would have involved Ash needing to find the pages of the book and trying to send the evil back. There would have been time travel involved and the ending idea I had at the time would have Ash being sent so far back in time to the very creation of the book where his very body is used to make it, screaming face, blood for ink and all (at the time I thought it would've been darkly humorous to have Ash reading from the same book which was made from him the whole time).
I got as far as releasing a demo of the game (called Evil Dead Timeline Take 2) and was working on the final version until a fatal computer crash and I never picked back up since. There's still download files floating out there on the internet, but the game itself runs pretty wonky on OHRRPGCE's current engine and a lot of the game's difficulty is off balance. There still elements I had planned out for that game which I'm still anxious to use in future projects.
Speaking of games, I guess as of tomorrow Ash vs Evil Dead will make all those previous "sequel" games non-cannon (is there really an Evil Dead cannon though). I kind of liked some of the ideas in the C64 one. I never really cared for
ED:Hail to the King,
ED: Fistful of Boomstick, or
ED: Regenteration as I found the gameplay in all of those really lacking. I tried and quickly deleted the mobile games, and I always thought it was always weird that Ash appeared in
Poker Night 2 but without Bruce Campbell or Tell Tale making an AoD game.
Any Evil Dead related stories or creations you all want to share before the show airs?
