Real talk; this is one of the best Assassin's Creed games in the series. By and large, the main mission design is leaps and bounds better than it has ever been (although there a still a few duds) and even the side content is well-fleshed out and meaningful (barring the awful collectibles gated behind some dumb app I will never play). The addition of stealth mechanics and interiors makes a huge difference.
The story is a tiny bit flat, but the historical backdrop is terrific and the characters are spot on. Arno may be Ezio 2.0, but Ezio was an archetype anyway, so who cares - it works.
The visuals are, on the whole, amazing, and playing offline the performance on PS4 was fine for me. The worst sections appeared in the first couple of sequences, but after that, play seemed relatively smooth throughout.
I also love that they stripped away a lot of the bloat. No more gondolas, ships, horses, wanted posters, Brotherhood mechanics, tower defense, bandit and courtesan guilds, tower defense, bomb-making, or any of that other extraneous crap.
The game is obviously rushed, and could have used a few extra months of polish, but on the whole this is a really solid game and I don't get the hate.
