I believe the wackjob flat-earther that was on the YouTube show claimed that light from the sun bends around the earth (I'm assuming he means diffraction?) and thus casts a curved shadow on the moon.

Just like Raist mentioned, gravity doesn't exist. We apparently stay on the earth because of electromagnetism.

So...what do people actually get out of this conspiracy? It doesn't seem particularly profitable.

According to the flat-earther in the video, this revelation exposes the fact that governments collude with each other. When the host pointed out that governments always have and still collude with each other quite publicly and that this was no big secret, the flat-earther basically reverted to the typical conspiracy theory bullshit mantra of "It's the truth, man, we're just exposing the truth for the masses."

The counterargument is that the sun is much smaller and much closer than you think. It doesn't disappear behind the curvature of the Earth, it just gets obscured by the scenery.

I vaguely remember some kind of alternate theory about the sun actually being a hovering spotlight rather than an orb that radiates light equally in all directions too, now that I think about it. I mean a lot of these people are trolls who make it up as they go along, there's not perfect consistency in the "movement".

I wonder how they'd explain this image of the sun setting over the horizon from an airplane. There's no scenery in the way and no "shrinking" of the sun due to perspective.

Antarctica. Yep, according to them Antarctica isn't actually the continent at our sothern pole - it's a wall of ice surrounding the flat earth in all directions. We only think it's the South Pole because the North Pole is the center, so everytime we reach the wall we are as far "south" as possible.

It's kind of elegant, in a demented way. Perfectly explains compasses and why circumventing the earth according to the maps we use still wouldn't get you to the edge. They've even worked out models for the solar and lunar transits to account for how day and night cycles would work on a flat Earth:

I mean, what are supernovae? What is the Cosmic Microwave Background? How do Focault pedulums work? Why would millions of scientists lie about this? Graduate student salaries are not enough to take part in a conspiracy. Etc., etc.
