Bandai Namco Studios has announced Studio 2/Studio S, a development studio that exists specifically to work on Nintendo games

This is the team that made Smash 4/Ultimate, but I suppose it's now official that they only work on Nintendo games?

Pretty cool, they did a great job with Ultimate.

Dunno if it was the same team but I thought they completely screwed up Prime 4 and that's why it had to be rebooted with Retro. Hopefully this allows for a level of oversight to avoid that happening again

I think this is basically just a formalization of what they've been doing for years. And just making it easier to do these Nintendo partner games vs putting a team together for each game as they come along. I don't think it like materially really changes anything

The original Prime 4 has always been rumored to be Bamco Singapore. Definitely not the same team as this.

Looks like Studio S is working on the next Smash, while Studio 2 does the 3D action game remaster (maybe Kid Icarus?).

Nintendo really benefitted on Switch from their partnerships with KT, BN and SE. Looks like Nintendo has committed to continuing that with BN for Switch 2.

The main difference was that KT and SE also gave Switch great third party support, while BN Studios did not. Let's see if this changes with Switch 2.

I've always wondered what was up with the relationship between Bandai-Namco and Nintendo. They got to develop one of Nintendo's flagship titles with Smash Bros but other than that, a lot of their Switch releases seem like afterthoughts.

But yeah, as a Nintendo and Switch fan this seems like good news.

And as every studio working for Nintendo, they will only do infinite sequels to a single series. Rejoice !

It very much depends on the developer.

Bandai Namco are happy to take Nintendo contract work, and many of their development partners are happy to bring their third party games to Switch.

The main exceptions are Bandai Namcio Studios and ILCA, which don't seem to have included Switch in their pipeline.

It's just 1 studio, despite the rather confusing naming convention at display here.

With MK8 & Arms being among the listed titles they've worked on, Namco could really be working on just about anything.

They are totally making Xenosaga remasters Switch 2 exclusive!! 😂

Seriously, great news for Nintendo! Especially offloading to get more games developed for future console/s.

Its just one studio, but it'll be one that works on multiple games. It looks like the majority of its top staff who were involved in Smash Ultimate are in Studio S, which is why I think that's the Smash part

So far BNS has largely supported Nintendo with Smash, EPD9 projects and Pokemon spin offs. It will be interesting to see if that is the same trend going forward (maybe not since the Pokemon spin offs aren't mentioned here).

Did someone say a new Punch Out game?!

I Hope Please GIF

Did they do this with the punch out and xenoblade devs then they bought them out ?
I'm not sure. I know they've purchased second party developers before but I don't recall those developers being under another publisher.

Nintendo bought the Xenoblade devs (MonilithSoft) from Bandai Namco.

Next Level Games were independent, but the owners wanted to sell so Nintendo stepped in.
