Given the audience they're supposedly targeting, this is almost certainly going to be a thing.

I see 0 chance of the grip not being packed in. How would they expect you to play your system on a TV otherwise?

Imagine if:
- since it uses cartridges, I'm picturing 3DS backwards compatibility.
- possibly Xbox One level of power since Skyrim Remastered is coming to the Switch and it'll be the best version (since you can take it on the go)
- Bayonetta 3, Smash 5, Mario Kart 9, 3D World 2, Xenoblade 3?
- Nintendo will end this shameful drought of endless Remasters and deliver quality again
- imagine if the screen could be used as an unlocked phone?

Whew all this good news today has me emotionally drained. This gen has been such trash but it's finally about to end. Nintendo will truly save gaming.

Not really, it also mentions that the dock provides power (overclocking most likely), so it does help somewhat in the power department.

I think this looks interesting, and i´m really hoping this will sell in great numbers. I´ve never been a fan of pure handheld consoles, but the Nintendo Switch looks like it´s something i see myself using a lot.

If there are two sources of storage it seriously need to not be like the Wii U. I bought digital Pikmin 3 at the weekend and I didn't have enough internal storage, so I put an 8GB USB stick in and it prioritises that over the internal rather than giving me a choice.

I don't think it's that bad. I mean, "Station" and "Box" aren't exactly worth hooting and hollering over. Though it does seem a little weird that apart from Nintendo, it's a name that's entirely a regular word on its own, so it doesn't feel as unique. Like if back in the 80s they'd released the "Nintendo Computer" in Japan and the "Nintendo System" in the west.

It's punchy. It's easy to remember. It's a clean break from previous Nintendo consoles, and won't get confused with any other console. It perfectly encapsulates the console's entire marketing message in a single one-syllable word. It isn't a euphemism for urine, nor is it the sound an ambulance makes.

Seems like a perfectly fine name to me.

Switch pro play, it's all the same. It's a good name, it will do the job

Yeah the video gives us all the clues we need, it runs Skyrim Special Edition, so it's as powerful as the PS4.

Not many talks about this pro controller. But damn it's looking nice. Much better as wiiu pro or xbox one/pro controllers. We can only decide how it plays when you have played with it, but it looks like you can't make this any better.

Looks like it has grippy handles, which is my favorite aspect of the Xbox One S controllers. Also, the joystick layout is the superior layout, which is another awesome thing. Can't believe I'm excited for a Nintendo product in 2016 lol

They should've used the shield controller. That thing feels great, plus it uses wifi direct.
I just hope the face buttons don't feel mushy like the WiiU pro.

Hardware looks pretty terrible, like a transformer sitting there that wasn't quite transformed properly.

I hate the look of the controls. I'll need to try it out but it looks like it has the same poor design as the 3DS, where you have to shift your hand down to use the dpad which means 2D games are uncomfortable and using both at the same time isn't possible for my hands. Having to buy a controller to make the thing actually playable isn't a great start.

Seems stubborn.

I honestly can't tell what's real in these threads. Nintendo fandom has zero contact with reality. Why would it be a phone?

That's quite the leap.

First of all, it's one unit. Maybe the stand tells the sytem to overclock since it won't have to worry about battery life, but I doubt it has much secret sauce.

Second of all, someone would have to measure how many 3.5 mm headphone jacks across the cartridge slot is to see if it's physically compatible. Looks like it might be a bit big to me.

Thirdly, the cards might be keyed in a way so that it won't fit, ala 3DS cards in DS systems.

Eh, I don't know. The device may just not be for you or your kids. I don't say that dismissively. I'm just being realistic. I don't really know if this thing has huge mass appeal. To me, I think the main point here is that this is just about the most ideal compromise in terms of how to go forward with their product line. I don't think they can support two devices anymore. I don't think a DS/Game Boy product makes much sense going forward outside of Japan. I don't think they can effectively compete with Sony/MS in the console space. So outside of just abandoning hardware, this makes the most sense to me.

I totally get that some people are going to see this as an overly cumbersome portable device and an underpowered home console device though.

The wii u screen was always tethered to the console. It wasn't portable, you couldn't take it out and about with you. This is a true handheld/console hybrid.

You can't take the gamepad put of range of the home base. This would be like if the Wii U was just the game pad and could.hook uo to the TV if you wanted.

Pretty much unfortunately.
It's too big to be carried around on top of the smartphones that people already have with them, the design is not kid friendly either. As a handheld it's a just a tablet losing the dual screens and the 3D effect compared to the 3DS with the plus of pointless detachable controls that require you to put the tablet on a table.
As a home console it is not powerful enough but the dock station and the other extra hardware will still raise the price to 299$.
I think this thing will sell just to the usual core group of Nintendo fans.
