I don't really like the aesthetic of the system. The plus and minus being physical shapes is odd. As is the home and share button being different shapes. The sticks have a cheesy crosshair texture. The shape is about what I expected and looks nice, but I don't like the look of the plastic. Looks kinda cheap. Maybe it's the color?

I get that they are trying to move away from the Wii, but this look isn't really jiving with me. I expect it'll grow on me somewhat.

This is pretty much where I'm at. I'm interested but considering the bloodbath my wallet will experience in Feb. next year, I'll probably end up waiting. Love the concept and name though.

Oh god, that's right. If you are a PS4 owner then how does one choose a new system that's just getting out the gate over the insane lineup of games coming out in the next few months?

Horizon and Person 5 are in February, alone. That's $120. Gravity Rush 2 and South Park are also big on my radar. And there are games from this season I still haven't picked up, like XCOM 2, Battlefield 1, Dishonored 2...

The cost of an NX with no games is probably about the same as getting most of the games I want for the system I already have.

The only system I have ever got at launch was the DS in 2004. This might be the second, provided that the price and launch lineup are both reasonable. Although to be quite honest just having Zelda alone at launch might be enough to get me to jump in, depending on how much better it runs than the WiiU version.

Is there a good look at the bottom of it anywhere?

Kinda' interested to see if the charging is proprietary or not; I'm guessing being able to just plug in a powerbank to extend battery life would be nice with this kind of horsepower.

I'd imagine the handheld unit has a wi-fi chip/module located inside.

There might then be an ethernet port in the dock.

I seriously doubt there'll be an ethernet port on the handheld unit, and if you're in the living room playing on the tv I'd imagine you'd have the ethernet connected to the dock.

But perhaps there's no ethernet at all. It wouldn't surprise me. The Wii U needed an adapter for ethernet.

Lol Ethernet port... They didn't have that in neither the Wii or Wii U. I had to buy a USB Ethernet POS to get better Smash Bro online pings. I doubt they'll have it in this either.

I didn't buy a wiiu so now I can get one with improved mk/splatoon (fuck you motion folks), that is nice.
This will probably have some sort of gyro, especially considering how much it improves the Splatoon experience. It's not a "motion gimmick" thing, it's a really good method of aiming that covers up for what the analog stick lacks.

I think that this thing is already starting to deflating in me.

After seeing the trailer I was hyped AF, but once the heat starts to get down and I can read more information than the few things they wanted to show us in the trailer, It has started to look like another Wii U, good only for Nintendo games.

And the most worrying part is that we don't know the real specs yet...

I'm liking the idea to use the two separate controllers without the grip, Wii style, one on each hand. I hope they are comfortable enough for that.

What information are you getting that isn't in the trailer?

We've come fast from "Wow" to "Boo" in this thread. :(

The trailer was good, the concept is neat and the design is slick and nice. But what matters are the games and we need to see those asap!! Not just a list of third-partys, we need footage of the titles they will release on the platform!

Just watched the video and I quite like the look of that portable. It's a Nintendo console which actually looks presentable which is a surprise. Battery life is a huge concern but tentatively interested. Being interested in a Nintendo console is a... weird feeling.

and how would you know that?

Because the clicking sound and feel of two plastic pieces sliding in to fit with each other is a pretty typical "oddly satisfying" experience? Similar to the experience of pulling the protective plastic coating off a screen. What an odd, lighthearted thing to get hung up on.

A big nintendo direct must be coming between now and march

Nobody wants to hear this right now, but it will never get the third party support that PS4 and XB1 have. There won't be many cross-platform releases.

It's pretty telling that they showed Skyrim, a last-gen port, rather than a game exclusive to this generation.

But the hype train does not tolerate rational thought and critical thinking.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if it's proprietary wank, like with the 3DS where one isn't even included in the package.

I REALLY hope they let me buy a left Joycon controller with a REAL D Pad because while I know why they did it in the first place it's very perplexing to me that they just go and ditch the D Pad the been using for 33th years

Ok so it's a successor to the 3DS with detachable controllers and video out. Ok I guess, and by virtue of being a handheld it'll probably sell enough to keep Nintendo shifting relevant numbers but I don't think it's going to change their market position at all.

Between now and march is a LONG time. They need to build momentum for the thing, increase the hype. The people liked what they saw but are concerned that they won't get good games. So you need to destroy these concerns to get the people to pre-order the system.
So in the next 4 weeks they should show us more imo.

Personally, I never expected it to. And if you've been following the rumors, I don't really see how you could really either be hyped or let down by this reveal. It's pretty much what I thought it would be and doesn't really make any obvious mistakes I could see to worry me.

And the most worrying part is that we don't know the real specs yet...

Nintendo doesn't announces the specs of their consoles. Didn't happen in a very long time. The simple fact that Nvidia posted on their blog about it's already more than happened for the previous systems.

I know it won't get PS4 XBONE ports and I don't care as I own a PS4 already. I just wanna see some kick ass Nintendo games, 3rd party Japanese support 3DS had and some unique games that use the concept.

It's not even a successor to the 3DS in my eyes, it's just a plain tablet computer with a controller and a Nintendo logo slapped on it.

My biggest let down centers on the rumors being so accurate. Seems very weak, power-wise, which is a problem for third party. And if a console is going to be a market leader then it needs third party. Yes, lots of people are pleased as punch to just be able to play Nintendo games on a Nintendo system, but it wasn't enough for the Wii U.

I also don't care for how it looks, but that's another issue that may not matter much.

You don't think the placement of the controls is an obvious mistake?

Having to buy a pro controller to play 2D games is just wrong when everybody else gets it right. Ergonomics is a big deal for something you are meant to pick up and hold in your hands.

And yes Nintendo fans will say "the 3DS was perfect!!!", but that isn't the point. Nintendo gets those fans by default, it is other gamers they are appearing to be trying to court, so the design is a bit of a disaster in my opinion.

It's coming out in March and Nintendo has other titles to promote until then. I wouldn't expect too much new stuff coming out until 2017. We'll get new info thanks to the investor meeting and some interviews here and there. That should be enough to get us through 2-3 months.

THE Nintendo Switch will get 3rd party support if.
1. It has a large enough install base and
2. Its easy enough to do a low effort port.

So far number 2 is looking very possible. While questions about install base are unknown but sound promising with many Gaffers who didnt buy a Wii U having a positive view of the switch (at this stage)

What if they replace ds with a new switch mini that will run all the switch games but will be closer to standard handhelds in size?

not having hardware on which 3rd party devs can run their games is a very obvious, but also typical nintendo mistake that in the end costs them more than they want to admit

Who doesn't tolerate what? We spoke so many times about the lack of western 3rd party support for NX. Actually what they shown it's a bit better than a lot of us were expecting. Usually the people who thought NX will get 3rd party support in full are the same ones who thought it will be a super console fighting with Pro and Scorpio. And those people are not really in this hype train being brought down to earth from their fantasy. The rest of us know what we're going to get.

All I want to say is that I hope this gives White Denim the bump they deserve. Saw them play this song at Lockn this year with Scott Metzger guesting on guitar. I'm guessing none of you know what I'm even talking about, but it was friggin raging. I can't recommend enough that people go out and see White Denim live.

Also this device looks interesting.

The Skyrim thing reminds me of them getting Arkham City and Mass Effect 3 on Wii U a year too late, but, I wonder if it means that Nintendo might consider adding mod support for games on Switch.
