Maybe it acts as a motion sensor bar, lol.

Honestly, that's probably not impossible. Might also be some weird Ambilight-esque thing that can also display other game info or something.

There's probably more to the whole console that we don't know yet still.

There's definitely things we don't know yet. Remember when Nintendo revealed the Wii Remote? They didn't reveal the nunchuck until a much later date.

I believe they revealed the nunchuck the same time as the Wiimote.

What they didn't mention is that the nunchuck also had motion controls. That one came a little later.

What they never mentioned was that the nunchuck motion controls were the worst thing ever. I swear it only worked for 2 games in the entire Wii library.

Were there more than two games that used it?

So: Will the next eventual mainline Pokémon game after Sun/Moon be a Switch game, or a mobile game?
It'll definitely be a Switch game, but when they'll make it is the question. It's possible that it could share a game with the 3DS for Gen 7, but I do expect Gen 4's remake to be saved for Gen 8.

Outside of shaking. I only recall Okami at the moment since I'm playing that right now. It's an absolute nightmare to dodge in that game.

For the record, the two games that used it well were SSX Blur and Trauma Team. That's it.

I know that this has been said already, but the comparisons to Vita have me so excited for the Switch.

But honestly, the idea of a modern Nintendo console that is fully portable, this is like Gameboy HD I've always dreamed of, which I never thought would be a reality. The 3DS had fairly dated graphics and limited controls since its inception, and the Wii U had obvious problems with portable (as in, it wasn't.)

A handheld system that delivers full console-level graphics (even if its less than what the PS4 is capable of) and console-style controls has been my dream since I was a kid.

The Vita was ALMOST there, except for the memory card issue and the fact that Sony basically abandoned it. I was happy with the indie machine it turned into, but I wanted to play original, console level games on it. And that never really came to be.

If Nintendo manages to genuinely support this thing enough for it to get traction, this could be my dream come true.

I don't mean to be hyperbolic, but I thought I could share my excitement here because let's face it, the GF and my gamer friends don't really get it. They only play PC games.

I'm also happy from Nintendo's final choice. Its portable nature fits just right in my lifestyle. The Switch is way more capable than a Vita, which I loved until its limits showed. This is Vita 2 with all Nintendo studios developping for it. I want that "console" very badly.

[...]

Exactly! Vita was my favorite piece of gaming hardware until Sony killed it young. Now I don't think they will be able to match Vita's screen technology which was especially for its time just spectacular but just the prospect of having a really powerful handheld is exciting.

What do people think about the March 2017 date?

Personally I believe Zelda is Holiday 2017, and suspect the system will be delayed till then also.

Yea thinking the same... The video they showed last Thursday didn't even have UI in it!! Can't see a release before 2018 for that title. Summer 2018 for NX.

I don't know if this would be possible, but it'd be cool if something like a mainline Persona would be released for this.

Well, Japanese game development has been on the rise lately, thanks to tools like UE4. And the Switch seems perfectly positioned to hit that sweet spot, in terms of power and ease of development, and Nintendo has more cash and clout to leverage these days thanks to mobile. I bet they are pursuing Japanese devs incredibly hard right now, and it already shows since DQXI will be a launch title in Japan. I wouldn't be surprised to see the system to turn into a mecca for "AA" japanese games.

Zelda looked to be quite far along at E3, and they have had a steady flow of marketing for the game ever since. I wouldn't be surprised if they managed to launch it alongside Switch.

If they managed to launch BotW and Mario Switch alongside the system, it would be the best launch Nintendo has had in forever. Wii U and 3DS had such horrible launch lineups.

Perhaps BotW, but Mario in 2017 is a no hope imho. But If BotW is launch in March, what is there for Holiday '17?

I don't see how Skyrim is proof that porting big AAA games to the Switch will be easy. It's a last-gen game that came out five years ago. There are already sub-$100 Windows tablets that can run the PC version. We don't know how the Switch version will compare to the Special Edition. I think it's probably gonna be a wholly unique version that stands somewhere between the 360 version and Special Edition.

Right now I'm not inclined to think Zelda will get another delay as big as holiday 2017. It's been in development since 2013.

Persona 5? Maybe Persona 5 Golden.

Concerning Mario, I think Nintendo delayed the Switch partly because of Mario. That suggests either launch or very close to launch.

Crazy Fantasy-Land Speculation: GTA V for the Switch might not be a bad idea. I just say this based off the fact that it's still a last-gen game at heart. Nintendo having the only full-blown portable version of a game like that would be huge. GTA Online might be kind of an issue: Rockstar has stopped updating the last-gen version of GTAO if I understand and it would be dependent on Nintendo's online infrastructure. A local WLAN version for portable mode could be interesting though. It ain't gonna happen, but it would be cool.

Why is it a no hope? Super Mario 3D World came out 3 years ago, and EAD2 hasn't done anything since then except NES Remix 1 & 2. It is more than reasonable they have the game almost completely finished, especially if they are targeting a SM64 type experience and not trying to reinvent the wheel like Galaxy.

just experience, nothing Nintendo is ever fast, also new Zelda AND new Mario in 17 - like what is left for '18 then.

Dark Souls while on the toilet!

lol The toilet would probably be appropriate for me as I get scared in those games.

But seriously, I just hope the screen is really nice. Aside from obviously wanting lot's of great games, I'll be really disappointed if the screen is garbage.

I seriously think Nintendo will make a play at GTA V because the series has gotten pretty big in Japan and it would take away an exclusive from Sony in that territory.

Well, that's true. But they have gone into Skeleton crew mode for Wii U for over a year now. I hope they are going to bring their A game and finally get rid of the Nintendo drought.

But that's probably just wishful thinking... :(

Please send me a link for such marvelous feat of engineering going for that price that can run Skyrim well. I'd buy 5.

It's everything the Wii U wanted to be. It's like the Wii U evolved.

I wonder if what actually prevented Nintendo from making the Wii U what the Switch is today, is the 3DS. At that point it was quite a new device and they probably didn't want to shit on it, now it probably doesn't matter.

I know you could argue that the 3DS would still be a different device, which is true, but I'm just looking at things in a general way i.e two different Nintendo handheld devices.

cause nintendo would never delay (make weird decisions) ever!...

Emily and EG, both of whom broke the news of what Switch was, said September. Emily is adamant it isn't getting delayed. The reveal just the other day was quite clear it wasn't getting delayed.

Nah, the Wii U was also trying to push its "asymmetrical gameplay" thing, which....the sales showed that no one cared about. Switch's message seems much more clear and like something that there may be a market for.

So you can play in the NS and on TV in the same time?

I'm confused when people say this is like the Wii U but better. I guess it's a greater realization of off-TV play, but otherwise, there's no dual screen gameplay. It's either a traditional single-screen home console experience, or a single-screen handheld experience.

That's a good point. I loved the Ghost Game when it game out, and it was a genuine hit for non-gamers in my house. We probably got two or three good party sessions out of that. :(

Really was a great lil system.
