BLACK MYTH: WUKONG Doesn't get enough credit for its genre defining animations. Truly best in class.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions

Oh my god. Look at this fucking glorious fight.

The animations, so goddamn good I could cry. The graphics. The destruction. The sound design (That perfect dodge SWOOSH. The clashing of the weapons) The hit reactions. The particle effects. So fucking elite.

Every boss fight, the animations really stand out. This is not a one off.

When it comes to combat in games, nothing elevates it more than world-class animation work. It simply takes everything to another level.

And theres no one in the business of making character action games doing better animation work than these guys. In fact, I think they're only matched by ND and TLOU2.

Game Science, man, the name couldn't be more fitting.

Also, how the fuck is it possible for someone to be this good at gaming? If you played this game, and fought the Yin Tiger, you know how insane of a video this is. Fucking wow.

It certainly looks cool. And that guy is a machine. But its the same souls adjacent combat in most of his videos. Maximum enemy tracking. Spacing doesn't matter. Movement doesn't matter. Just sit there and land your dodges or parries and you literally don't even really need to move. I dont think its very good combat just looking at it, and the enemy is insanely tanky and doesn't even really react to anything.

Visuals are definitely stunning though. Almost makes it a bit hard to see what's happening, but thats why his staff glows bright orange like Horizon so you can see any of it.

I just find stuff like Ninja Gaiden so much better where you have more expression with movement and combat options and spacing matters.

Yeah. I'm sick of tanky enemies. Design a boss to beat you even if it only takes 10 hits.

Looks like he's been hit a bunch but doesn't take any damage. I haven't played it however so maybe it is just easy like how his stamina barely moves despite the almost near constant attacks.

Or are they using cheats?

Nah. Its a feature in the game called See Through. Perfect dodges/perry. the guy is just elite

The secret boss Erlang has like 73 (iirc) unique moves.

Its a master class of action animation, I'll agree with you OP. This place is so fucking jaded.
Yea man. Jeez lol

I havent gotten to Erlang yet, but ive beaten every boss so far. The animation work on all of them is just insane. I cant wait to see Erlang. Game has the dopest bosses ive seen all gen

I stopped after beating some dragon on an ice lake. I got pulled away to play something else. I tried going back once, but I couldn't remember how to play, use all the abilities and stuff. So I might have to restart at some point.

Id rate the boss fight design in this game on par with (if not above) FromSoftware game. The game features over 80 unique, non-repeating bosses, more than any FS game. The true ending's final boss, Erlang, has 73 different movesets, not to mention dozens of dialogues and interactions that change depending on the player's actions and skills used. Some bosses can even counter the player if they spam a certain move too often.

I expect China to have the most and the best 3d animators now, their donghua (3d anime) industry is huge. So we are bound to see more, especially in high-budget projects.
ZZZ animations also top-notch.

It does some things amazingly, and some others, ps1 quality.

In a bunch of areas, or maybe all, the monkey bro walks through foliage without any physics reaction.

I really enjoyed this game but i find it overly glazed. The moveset wukong has access to is pretty lame. Its like the same combo over and over. And then the level design is kinda weak.. the amount of invisible walls especially early on are insanity. The game is carried by excellent boss fight and visuals. I give it an 8.5 personally. Boss fights really kick ass

It's the media. Nothing personal.

What happens is that they look down on it for being a Chinese game. It even went to the Game Awards, and the whole event was a rigged one.

They wanted Dragon Age Veilguard to be the game of the year...
But it didn't work out for them.

So because it's Chinese, other countries don't like it because it overshadows them in terms of technology..

But I can say that China is coming on strong everywhere, and even more so in video games... And I like that.

What genre has it defined?
Are you kidding me ?
This game is the bible of aromantic androphilic lithosexuals everywhere.

Seriously tho, it is a masterpiece, everything in it is in the highest tier of what you can do and if it subject was more familiar with western audience, everyone would have understand that China worldwide cultural domination is inescapable.
Menawhile westerners goon for a lu cixin fanfic book about telling the teacher on someone that was going to beat you up at recess so everyone is punished and you avoid the beating.

is this thread meant to be a parody?

because it's not even on the level of DMC3 let alone stuff made by platinum games.

but then again, I can tell OP is more interested in movie-like animations than actually well timed satisfying animations that are designed for videogames and not cutscenes.

I loved Wukong and found it to be one of the more difficult soulslikes, especially after a certain point in the game.

I think that increased difficulty turned many off and they never finished the game. They were like "are all soulslikes like this?"

I can say this is one of the harder ones. It was just so good though. I really enjoyed it. Especially with no map(it had no map when I played it).

The ending and last boss battle hold really fond memories for me. The pagoda section where you can fall off was done really poorly and showed the game's deficiencies but it was also really short so it didn't really detract for me. The sheer amount of fun bosses has never really been pulled off as well as Wukong. Solid game. I give it a 9/10 with a highly recommended stamp of approval. Also, if you haven't play it, it is hard to appreciate the combat, but there is a lot more to it than you imagine based on some of the comments here. It is NOT easy and also isn't "a million hits with no damage" you are building to fill a little bubble that allows you to perform various versions of finishing moves during combat that offer a wide variety of benefits depending on your spec. This isn't a soulslike with tacked on rpg, the skill tree actually gives you a lot of choice and variation in combat styles and they all work well in different scenerios. It's deeper than you think and much deeper than say, Lords of the Fallen with the latest patch, and about on par with Lies of P once you have access to the expansion weapons. It's a really generous game with the skill tree and you will spend a lot of time with the rpg elements in this game. Perfect dodges slow time and it is just done really well. I'm sure the video in the OP looks easy but so does brain surgery.

If you make a small effort to understand, you'll find my post very true, especially the last sentence about the three body problem.
I had to google "goon" and try again.

Nope, still no idea.
I'll guess.
" Westerners are dumb and like a Chinese sci-fi book/TV show but are too dumb to appreciate "Journey from the West" and China will dominate everything because reasons"

And three body problems actually very good and deep book.
It's Sci-fi from times when Sci part actually meant it (Asimov & co)

This game excels at both.

Actual quality impressive animations. And the video game satisfaction animations

I don't know how you watch that video and think "this is a video game movie". Lmao

I played it. the animations are mid at best. not western game dev bad, but also not even close to the levels of even PS2/Xbox era hack n slays like Ninja Gaiden Black or DMC3. let alone DMC5 or Bayonetta

he's using a specific move called see through like 50 times in the video, that's actually a well timed move (it counts as a parry)

That's true. Still, for a shallow game, this one is definitely entertaining just for the insane work they put into bosses and rhythm.

Also i think in Wukong the bosses actually react way more to your combos than in most Souls-like, First off it's way easier to stagger them (again with great animations all the time, never feels weird), it's almost too much sometimes, certain boss have good potential but are too easy because you can stunlock them and because powers are too OP.

But some bosses towards the end also react by countering your moves, like the final boss and the secret boss have so many ways to counter each power to not get abused and it's so satisfying to watch.

They also react vocally at your moves that's another part of it more akin to the lore but there's really an incredible sense of details in how the bosses were designed.

So definitely a modern action game (with less RPG crap and bad mechanics than in some other games) with a lot of things i don't like but huge respect for the work put into it and it was actually fun to play.

good animations cant save an overall mid game overrated to death. All its copy cats will suffer the same way Wuchang did, because you can only brainwash ppl once.

Elden Ring's regular movement for the player character is quite clunky and unrefined, but it actually excels when it comes to the combat animations, especially in how the numerous different enemies move. Very cool stuff. Hogwarts Legacy (of all things) also has some beautifully polished animations, especially in the way the avatar does regular traversal in the environment, but also the wand swishes during combat are far more elegant than they could have gotten away with.

yo does it run on the series s !?
yes, like shit, but yes

I watched that video and honestly all I see is a Beyblade battle, just two constantly rotating bodies crashing into each other.
He's playing that style on purpose. Just pure martial arts. no magic, no spells.

Bruh. There's 108 bosses, each of them unique, hardly any repeats. the graphics are best in class. the boss designs are fucking elite. the art is elite. the atmosphere is amazing. the game has incredible production values (unlike cheap Souls trash from From). the story is great. the combat is satisfying. how on earth do you come to the conclusion of MID?

How difficult are this game's bosses compared to From's? I was kind of put off when I learned the game was basically mostly made up of boss encounters.

Fighting this guy right now (well, tonight). His design is so fucking cool. The fight is so damn beautiful. animation work again, making me horny.

Theres a few that are just as hard as anything in Froms games, but overall probably not as hard. Its still fucking hard though.

But the fights are amazing.

But theres no penalty for Death, you dont have to worry about that nonsense.

I love Souls and Souls-like games, but this never really felt like that to me, but I guess I can see the similarities. I just wish I could get into the game, it's just not my cup of tea, I've seen all this praise and after seeing so much of it, I just don't see what they see and that's it, really. Are those animations nice? Sure. But to me it doesn't look like anything jaw dropping or absolutely eye catching. Just some solid animations.
