It's the best game ive played this year. Best combat, best boss fights, second best level design (SH2 is better), best graphics. Bad story and storytelling but in a year where FF7 has literally retarded storytelling, Dragons Dogma has no storytelling and Dragon Age has the most bland milquetoast writing of all time, it's not like the bar has been set particularly high.
The Last Guardian had a 82 on metacritic and it was a masterpiece. Death Stranding won the most awards in 2019 and it has an 83 on metacritic. Ghost of Tsushima has an 84 on metacritic and it was runner up to TLOU2.
If anything, i think Balataro which isnt even a real game should not be getting nominated on principle. If you want to make games, make a real game. Astro bot getting nominated despite not bringing anything new to the platforming genre. It feels like a 90s game and its getting rewarded because of that nostalgia. If it wasnt for nostalgia, FF7 wouldnt be getting nominated either. Awful ubsioft quality open world design. Hell worse than ubisoft because by AC4 and Far cry 3 their worlds were way better than this. The story missions are linear as fuck. The game shoves hundreds of mini missions down your throat. ANd we are awarding it GOTY nominations over Helldivers 2, Space Marine 2 and Silent Hill 2? INSANE.

You’ve also got a lot of other people trying to prop it up as something it’s not just because of culture war bs so it’s a wash

That’s a sure fire way to make every game *unique* lol I imagine a world in which every game is the same and has the same message and is aimed at the same audience. That would be rather boring, no?
Furthermore, what business do these people have telling creators and artists what they can and can’t do? There’s a reason critics are critics, because they can’t actually create anything themselves. The only thing they can do is sit at a keyboard and judge the creations of other people. An absolute scummy existence.

Don't care about lame metacritic, journalist, tga scores when Steam has the actual true score from 730k actual customers with a 96% which is the true score for Wukong and rightfully so. It may not be my top 3 but it's still high up there as the top 5 best games this year along with Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Space Marine 2. Won't mind if Wukong won.

If I remove the Elden Ring dlc (which I think one should), I would definitely pick Black Myth over those other nominations. I bounced off all of those,except Rebirth, which I managed to finish despite being very bored for much of the time.
Haven't played Re-fantazia yet, but very much looking forward to that one at some point.
Would replace AstroBot and Rebirth with Dragons Dogma 2 and Silent Hill 2 at least.

Not only that, but Rebirth is based on a part of the original FFVII and padded out to a full game. It has no beginning and no end. FFVII Rebirth isn't like Silent Hill 2 which is the full experience and then some. It takes like 4 biomes or something, and fills all of them with the exact same content each time. While the story additions are mostly trash, with some exceptions that go a bit deeper and visuals than the original. I mean they could easily drop 80% of that busywork, and shrink down the sandboxes of Gongaga (which was pretty much a tiny side area in the original), Cosmo Canyon and Junon, and probably finish the story while still having enough content and minigames.
I had fun with the game mind you, but I admit playing it largely felt like work at times. Its suffers from those typical Ubishit tropes. Its just cheap everything runs to chadley. Want to find a hidden summon materia or E-skill in the open? Tough luck. The open world isn't being created for that, but just for activating towers and summon crystals.
Wukong is better. Its not perfect and its rough around the edges, but it has just 2 or 3 sidequests per chapter. And they are all quite different. The game never felt like work. Great character designs, music and atmosphere. Good gameplay with a lot of build variety. Its quite replayable and NG+ adds perks that eventually make you OP.

How did the fact that it scored an incredible, delectable, perfect beautiful 94 MC somehow slip by you as you completed the game yourself? Were you off the internet that week or something? It was kinda big news around everywhere that even dabbles in gaming. It was always going to be nominated for goty. It has a huge following. How'd ya miss it? Or perhaps my guess was right and you haven't played it yourself?

They downranked wukong because the devs refused to hire Sweet Baby. The professional review bombing was intentional. Did you not see the review bullet point on the first page docking it points for lack of dei in an animal game about a monkey?

I think it mainly comes down to the fact that SH2 is a remake so giving GOTY for prettier graphics wasn't worthy I believe.

Reviews don’t impact game sales anymore. The game your pretending is being victimized by big games media had official reviews that got less collective clicks than a single Asmogold video decrying bias against it — because effectively one journalist review happened to say it wasn’t inclusive—

Same thing with Dragon Age, it’s tallied about like games media full throated it because a site or two gets singled out, yet it scored only 1 point higher on metacritic and has only sold decently at best.
I don’t think you understand how places like this, amateur YouTubers, etc, hold wayyyyy more power than games media now. Unless you want to tilt at windmills I suppose.

Currently playing it. Did all the side content and Dragon Trials, closing in on the final battle. Poured a decent amount of time into it.
The game is nowhere near a 94 in my opinion.
I saw the score when the embargo lifted and to be honest, it kind of hyped me even more to get the game.
Fast forward some time, and yeah, both score and game are a bust for me.
Way overhyped and doesn't live up to a 94 score.
They cut an insane amount of corners that, personally, for me, doesn't make any sense, specially consider the engine the game is using and how big and unique the project was supposed to be.

I have never really liked the story of persona games or megami, I honestly ignore it when I can or just rapid press through conversations hoping not to damage/hamper any stats with my choices. The overall game design and art styles are typically standouts for me so I buy them and play through them. Social network and dating stuff, meh...monster capturing and bre...I mean "melding"...I love that stuff.
"DQ3 HD 2D Remake of the Remaster of the Hero Arisen AGAIN"...added the monster colosseum and that has kept me glued to that game for the last week.

I don't really think this is an outlier of any sort. And frankly, if you're putting it up against previous nominees like Stray, Black Myth is looking pretty damn unassailable as a nominee.

Cause western journos only played an hour of the game before making sweeping statements and they didn't play past that.
