Black Myth: Wukong - Official Unreal Engine 5 Gameplay Trailer

Easily the best looking current generation game that I have seen thus far. Super hyped for this game. If it plays half as great as it looks, it's going to be one hell of a game.

Looking great. I don't think the gameplay looks bad at all, I mean it's not the best thing I've seen but both boss battles looked fun and there seems to be a lot of skill variety. There also seems to be some nice "impact" and feedback to hits, which is something 99% of souls inspired games tend to fail at.

Seems like the one issue with these new engines enabling smaller studios to make amazing visuals is that people will start expecting them to deliver the same quality as a $100 million + AAA blockbuster in every department on their first try. I foresee the same will happen to Kena when it launches and it isn't on the same tier of quality and content than a mainline Zelda.

Anyway, whatever ends up happening with this game (with china I'm always wary it can be vaporware or the final product won't be as good as it looks), I hope whoever is in charge of art direction for this game continues to work on more games. It's not just the graphics which are nice but the actual locations, enemy designs, environments, etc. There's some From Software tier stuff in here.

Good lord this looks next gen as fuck.

It's insane that a no name chinese studio is delivering next gen while pretty much every single western and japanese dev is sitting on their ass making mediocre cross gen games. No idea wtf is going on in this industry anymore.

What's crazier is that they have so many different systems in the game. It's no just chinese dark souls. lots and lots of combat variety. Pretty spectacular stuff.
thanks for saying this because I thought I was just jaded...there's a problem

Just another Soulslike pale imitation. Looks garbage and the AI is terrible.
Gameplay closer to Devil May Cry to me and graphics are obviously way ahead of Elden Ring

AI? We can settle this once the final product is released

I suggest you watch it again. It quite obviously owes a great debt to Sekiro. Even the empty gourd animation is the same.

Sun Wukong is my favorite legend from the Chinese mythology. He can do a bunch of stuff with the stick, including ranged attacks. He can also create clones from his hairs. They probably won't give him his flying nimbus, because that would almost certainly break the map gating. Looks like they're letting him transform into various flying creatures though. Wukong is dope man. Like seriously badass. I believe Goku is based on him.
You should rewatch the first trailer.

Flying nimbus shortly after the tagged time.
He does wear his headdress in these scenes though, and the Wukong we know from gameplay seems like a younger or nerfed version of the monkey king. I'm suspecting during the game one will unlock his powers Metroid-style to reach his "final form". Perhaps the nimbus is only gotten towards the end of the game. I also think, even with the nimbus, you won't be able to go everywhere.

This looks really bad compared to the first trailers: they've lost all the colors, scene populating and dressing that made the art direction. Many things also seem clanky and badly frame. But I think my main problem is I expected this to be a pure hackslash, obviously this is going to be yet another soulsborne.

I can't wait for Kotaku article to speculate if the Monkey is straight, gay or transgender

Also for Jason tweet to complain that the studio has only devs from China "WTF MUH NO DIVERSITY MUH"

Great looks... but sound design is generic as hell and they are focusing too much on 1x1 battles, which could led to a bland world

Art direction is awesome. Please be good
All the designs are incredible. The amount of variety all at a high level is insane. It might be too ambitious which is probably why itll take another 2 years, just hope they can nail it down and deliver a polished game.

Good 1v1 fights are always more engaging than groups of generic mooks. You can design the fight in intelligent ways and add unique mechanics. When was the last time you fought a bunch of weak mobs and thought to yourself "yea, this is LIT!"? Dynasty Warriors is more of the latter, and while it's a fun de-stressor, it doesn't really engage your neurons.

There's a technical breakdown provided by one of the developers and is translated by someone on Twitter. Seem's like the game's development is really being benefited by UE5 and Nanite itself is allowing for a 50% uplift in performance whilst also allowing for massive increase in polygon counts. They've only had their hands on UE5 for two months as well. This is very exciting stuff and the future looks promising!

Son Goku is a Japanese name for the same character

I want some release info already. Platforms and date or at least release window if possible.

New games should be getting all the attention for the new gen, rather than remasters and last gen upgrade patches imo.

So generic.
The main character is another frikken white male
An electric dragon weve seen these things in like every game out there.
Chinese folklore architecture....pfffttt every game is using this architecture these days.
Mutated Monkey statues....pretty sure I saw that at every E3 last year and the year before that.
The Monkey boss swings his sword with both his hands and feet? Yeah yeah weve all been there before.
The Graphics dont even look that great because you know ive seen better in *checks notes* 99% of games that have come out....at 4K.

Shit, games should just hint at being Sony exclusive so they can get some extra hype.
Looks great, hopefully plays well to.

Hahaha easiest way to get mad hype....say you are a Sony exclusive.

Im excited for this because it seems to be a PC title first that they may or may not port to console eventually.
So they can really throw everything at it.

Nvidia sponsored so im expecting dem CUDA cores to be working overtime....the super dense tessellation in the snow was actually pretty damn incredible to witness.
During the whole fight the terrain kept evolving I dont think ive seen that level of tessellation in a game yet.
It was multi multilayered even his frikken staff was tessellating the environment by the end of the fight the area was almost unrecognizable.

Looks good but I'm afraid without AAA budget this game (project) will be either never finished, or very short and lacking important features.

I would love PC only for the lols. Yes the snow omg. Went back and watched a few times. Insane snow.
Love how they taking about 70+fps on a 2060. Pumped for being reminded of snow.

Theyve got the backing of the second largest video game company but you think they dont have a budget.

They are in China, the AAA budget isnt equal to in the west.

Using Unreal Engine 5 actually reduces quite a lot of overhead and pressure on devs.

Currently only for PC so they dont even need to ask MS, Sony, Ninty for shit.

Epic is probably gonna offer them an exclusivity + publishing deal that immediately puts money in the bank.

The amount of stuff we have already seen from them and things seemingly being in their favor the game is highly likely to be competed, as for "missing features" I dont even know what features you are talking about so can comment.

There's very little gameplay in this video and for now it looks more like impressive unreal engine tech demo. I have seen many similar unreal engine 4 projects over the years from indie developers but I dont remember even a single finished game that would be considered good.

You think this developer will get the necessary foundings and I hope you are right. Lets wait and see how things will turn out.

You think the fights and all the traversal were cutscenes and/or prerendered?
Mate be serious, they even showed us shots of the games FPS with DLSS on/off, Nanite on/off.
This is a working product already....if they need a publisher they could shop this around right now already.
Epic is most likely to release it in the west.

In China using Unreal Engine 5 with Tencent backing them.
The funding should be little to no issue.

It's cool that China is making a major game, I'm just debating if I should honor their intellectual property rights or not.

As the other topic got closed.

Isn't lumen just software raytracing made so old cards can play games that they otherwise couldn't. Isn't that the whole reason why luman even exists.

No wonder it nukes the performance.

This has no mention of dlss

The scene when they talk about Nanite barely has any light in it.
I wouldnt be shocked if said scene wasnt even using Lumen, or has it toned down as global illumination might not benefit an "indoor" scene.

Then down at this DLSS scene we see a much lower density section than the pavillion but the 2060 is getting its ass beat.

They almost certainly were using DLSS to capture this trailer.

Simply from playing with UE5 its impossible without some other worldly optimization on behalf of the devs to have an RTX 2060 run this game anywhere near 60fps without using DLSS to upscale.
Lumen is just super expensive still even with the benefits you get from Nanite.

Please be good, I want this game more than Most Sony or MS first party line ups. Also hoping the trend of talented Chinese devs getting world stage recognition continues

Yeah but if this game will look like this and run at 1080p 30 without dlss then that is proof engines are getting more performance. You have to factor fidelity in as well. If fidelity is increasing more than required power performance has to be going up as well.

Flashy looking combat, sure. But I smell another biomutant type of situation with this game.. if it ever releases
You think the game will be a huge success for the developer and make its money back in a week!

Thats a really shining endorsement from you....im fully behind this title now.

On YT you can find UE5 tech demos also with cutscenes. With current tools even a single talented developer can create something amazing.

The funding should be no issue? Guy who made this trailer had problems running this scene at 1080p because he has RTX 2060 and was limited only to what this GPU can do. Developers with sufficient funds should work on the latest hardware because otherwise they will be not as productive. If lead programmer is working on entry RTX hardware, then I refuse to believe they have sufficient funds.

The RTX 2060 is the base level DLSS/Lumen dev GPU thats the reason they would be showing off performance with an RTX 2060.

If they said hey guess what we can hit 4K with an RTX 3090, that wouldnt be impressive it would be expected, that tells us shit about how performant they have gotten their game.
But by showing off their game running on the worst RTX card they can say worry not villagers if you have anything above the worst RTX card the game will run better than this.

P.S YOu think they could have a building but cant afford anything better than an RTX 2060?
