BREAKING: Sony is shutting down Firewalk Studios, the maker of the recent shooter Concord (Update: Neon Koi is also closing)

It's somewhat a shame.

I heard that the game was pretty enjoyable to play. Its mostly the pandering and the character design that ruined it.

This studio could've been great if they made the game for the players instead of their own agendas.

Well, you know what they say.
Go woke go broke.

Just imagine You graduate from university and your first job is on Firewalk as a "junior designer" or something like that, maybe You don't agree with top level boss about the Game design but the salary is fine and You are just a junior worker.

Spend the next 8 years of your Life working on Fireworks and boom Concord fails and now the studio is closed.

What would You write on your resume?

I don’t care the game or studio behind it but to me it’s crazy that entire studio gets shutdown over one single failure.
If I lost 100s of millions of dollars at my job I think I would get fired too. It's crazy to me people think this single failure doesn't have a cost.

The amount of work to fix the game want worth investing in to it due to the taint of the IP at this point and it would be easier to make a new game from scratch.

I'm hoping sunny learned their lesson about going woke asking with many others in the industry with the amount of work games bombing lately

Haven studios right now:

Haven and that fairgame$$$$ is doa.

I totally get they are trying to do a heist game aimed at occupy wall street kind of gamers who hate rich people, but that will flop too.

But there is no way it does as bad as concord. Only way it could do worse is of the game is actually canceled outright and studio shut down.

At least for me, it has nothing to do with wokeness or lack thereof. It's just, from the initial SoP reveal, the game seemed so derivative and uninteresting (granted, I'm not the target audience as I very seldom do multiplayer, but even I could see that). So this is not a celebration. Just an inevitability. Cut your losses, move on. Sad for the people involved, but such is life when it comes to business. Which is what this ultimately is. Corporations may be people, but they sure as hell ain't your friends.
This. The game was doomed from the moment it was unveiled. Its lack of interest from people was staggering. And surely SIE’s internal numbers show that. There’s people there whose entire job is to gather and interpret data to help see how a product is or is not going to do.

And they chose instead to put on earmuffs and bury their head in the sand, and say “We don’t care what the buzz is for Concord, we are not changing a thing.”

Talentless freaks
I disagree completely. The game has all the signs of having plenty of talented people working on it, it was just ruined by management not listening to the market or taking/allowing feedback and listening to the wrong influences. The art director and some of the artists should reevaluate themselves, but it's unfair to call the rest of the team talentless which seems to have done a decent, if not inspired, job.

Sell the IP and code to Tencent. Let them reskin it and watch them make bank.

Ultimately, the character designs were the game's biggest problem. And it doesn't even have anything to do with "woke" or whatever; there are other similar games on the market with a big focus on diversity in characters like Apex Legends, VALORANT and Overwatch, and all of those games are very successful both critically and commercially, even by many of the so-called "chuds".

The truth is, many of Concord's designs were just generally awful and when that was paired with them also being very diverse, it just created a 1-2 combination that killed interest for many involved. Turns out, people want appealing characters first and foremost, regardless if they're diverse or not. Whodathunkit? And that goes for the so-called progressives who want to push diversity at all costs, but spent more time mocking the game than actually buying & playing it. They didn't practice what they preach, in fact 9 times out of 10 they don't.

Again, Concord could've had the same arrangement of diverse character designs and been perfectly fine, if they also actually made the designs more fleshed out and appealing in their aesthetics. The game routinely ignored time-honored practices of solid character design and paid the price for it. As has now, the entire studio.
Bad characters, pronouns, worst pastel colour pallete ever in a shooter. That doomed it from the start with a bad first impression.

It’s like going on a blind date and right away you meet someone at the table who is fugly and says to call her a they or xi xur whatever. The person can end up being normal after getting to know her, but you know in the back of your head you can do better with someone better looking with as good or better personality. And even better you can save a few bucks taking someone else out at a cheaper restaurant.

I don’t even think it being a hero shooter with ho hum modes killed it. COD has pretty much the same modes every year and gamers keep coming back.

I find this quite hilarious to be frank. They released a game that got cancelled right at launch and their studio is being closed, yet they want us to believe they were an incredible team that made a great FPS.

Being humble and having some self-criticism are things that have never, and will never cross their mind. There is no way forward for such mentality in game development. These people, wherever they end up, are bound to fail again.

Did you even read the tweet?

It's $200M for the development.

The $200M does not include marketing, the sale of IP rights, the acquisition of the studio, or game's delayed launch.

Did you even read Colin’s $400M figure?

Apparently not. It didn’t include any of those items either, that was pure development cost and not including studio acquisition.

I knew there was almost no chance Sony would subject themselves to another round of embarrassment by relaunching Concord. I was hoping though, because it would have been funny.

So wasnt there chatter that, something along the lines of, "there is stuff happening on the back end of steam for Concord". Is it safe to say this game is completely dead now?

Don't much care for Firewalk or Concord because such a huge flop was going to result in the game getting scrapped and/or the studio closed.

But ultimately if you're responsible for the biggest most expensive flop in in the industry, you should be kicked out on your arse yeserday.

The fact that this cunt is still employed at PS speaks volumes.

If you’re going to blame him for Firewalk, you need to credit him Helldivers 2
