Welp, I'm finally settled here in Belfast. I landed in Heathrow and it was nice to see some rain and then Belfast was all sunny. Not really what I expected. I'm looking forward to the next 6 months here in the UK. Should be fun.

I think at least a few of the people coming don't or won't be drinking.

I usually do an amazing job of looking everyone at the start of the night but get progressively drunker until I am completely smashed :/

But yeah anyway, there'll be someone to help.

I can confirm that this is entirely true, when I was escorted to the meet-up from Victoria i felt very safe and looked after..... by the end, momma BritGAF lost custody

However you will not be left to fend for yourself, even though I was the only one going to Victoria, one of the gaffers (Not a BGAF regular) helped me find my bus and gave me all information required :D

But yeah, if previously arranged, one of us can probably help ya back, if you go near waterloo, i might be able to :)

I'm sure that I'll be fine.

Maturity, bitches.
I still feel bad that Mikeside ending up going too far because he missed his stop. I was concentrating hard on looking for where I had to get off and I got my easts and wests mixed up and it resulted on him going on too far. :(

Morning all. Seems unusual to work (and feel slightly ill) during a birthday but I decided to save the day off for a holiday. Weekend's gonna be ballin' though!

Does anyone know, that if when travelling via off peak train tickets I can get any train during the off peak times to the destination, even if it’s not the route that the online journey planner suggests when I buy the tickets?

E.g. the journey planer suggests going by Farringdon but I want to avoid the tube (due to luggage) and go via taxi to London Bridge and then to East Croydon where I can get a train to the south coast (my destination).

When keepin it real goes wrong. Very, very wrong.
Hope your having a great day shorty

Its mindblowing how scrolling down a page on two different browsers feels completely different. I ditched chrome due to gifs loading problems and youtube video loading problems.

Back on firefox; Feels good to be home.

Umm. I think you shouldn't have a problem as long as the start and end is the same.

When I went to the lake district my ticket said London -> Windermere. All timing was different so I didn't take the exact path it suggested.

However, I think you need to make sure you are on the same carrier.

Sounds like though you aren't making London your starting destination, but Farringdon. Which could be a problem.

Playing with Google voice search is cool but my accent is working against me. I sound like a tool saying the same thing over and over again and getting the wrong results.

I'm starting from Chelmsford, I've not ordered the tickets yet but it does say any route permitted.

saw the Muse setlist for staduim tour...i came a little ready for saturday now

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHORTY MOTHERDUCKER

Was it all Showbiz and Oranges b-sides? I saw Muse back in the early 2000s and it was fucking mind blowing, like Rage playing Jeff Buckley songs. I've rarely seen a room EXPLODE like when they played Yes Please.

ok guys my cousin is trying to convince me into renting an apartment close to her.
She lives in Stepney Green.

The rental around there (Whitechapel / Aldagate / Stepney Green) is much cheaper, but I know there must be a reason.

What can you tell me about that zone?

I got 'neogaf' on my third attempt and I've got a little but of a scottish accent.

I have to put in effort to make my words whole, though.

Applied for five new jobs today! One is as a journalist for a media publisher. I wrote a short article about the upcoming next gen of consoles as an example of my writing skills. It only took me half an hour or so, but it can be found at http://richorchard.wordpress.com if anyone here wants to give me feedback!

It'd be appreciated, anyhow!

What's the media company? (PM, don't post it here)

Make sure you're matching your writing style and approach to their own - being able to fit in with their stable is an essential trait they'll be looking for. Don't confuse this for simply copying another writer's voice.

Just reading your article at face value, avoid terms such as "big three" "DRM" etc. unless the company in question is gaming focussed.

I'd also urge you to get more concise - strip your writing back further and further until it can fit into roughly 400 words, which is about a standard length for a short feature/review/preview in print media. You're currently using over 900, and you don't need even half of them. It may not be a print company you're applying for, but the ability to be economical and effective with word count is essential.

Did they specify just one sample? If not, compose another. Show a different writing discipline (review, news feature, interview) and a slightly different voice.

Head straight over the Guardian's website, the London Book Review, Edge Magazine, anything with quality writing, and see exactly what their writers are doing.

Where are you living now?

Whitechapel and Aldgate make me want to cry, but it might be just me.

noooo ross and rachel

lttp? I used to love Friends but it's gotten way past the point of over exposure over the years. The endless endless repeats of it on E4, and now Comedy Central have it too. I'm sure if I turned on the telly, it would be on somewhere right now.

My favourite season is where Ross has his breakdown.

This is an incredible idea Jed!

Tash, don't worry, those two love birds end up together in the end. They have a beautiful baby and everything.

It WAS an incredible idea, it's called "Muse circa 1999". That band were INCREDIBLE. I don't know who's wearing Matt Bellamy's skin these days but they can't write songs for shit.

Bonus Jedeye Sniv info factoid: I saw the members of muse sat in the World's End in Camden planning the video for Bliss (at least, that's what I think it was)

Gaming sides completely loss of perspective is even leaking into the Giant Bomb threads :(

I can't stand Gaming side these days, the console war bullshit has reached an epic level of idiocy. I thought we'd grown out of the console wars stuff into a meritocracy of gaming entertainment and instead there's just a load of retards posting dumb gifs and acting like simps for Sony.

IMO anyone who's made their mind up about next gen now is an idiot.

Also I saw a fairly watertight case arguing against used games yesterday and now it annoys me even more to see people keep digging on the xbone for no used games (which in itself is not even true).

Showbiz sucks. I thought as a people we could all come together, recognise this, and live amazing, peaceful lives. Shame we have people still dragging their knuckles through the lame, lame mud. :p

Gaming sides completely loss of perspective is even leaking into the Giant Bomb threads :(

I'm listening to the podcast now just to form my own opinion. Also, toy voice acting.

Shit area, thats why.

There are some nice spots but it is very Asian heavy. Not that its a bad thing but you might stick out. If you want to be close to that area just go to Shordeitch. Its gay friendly and hipstery.

Not knowing your personality makes it hard to suggest where to look honestly.

Besides your 6 hundred hours of tv, what do you enjoy doing? Do you like clubbing, quiet bars, upscale bars?

Can PM me if you want. There was a few gaf brits that helped me when I moved here but now that I've been here 4 years I know London pretty well.

This is great advice. When I was learning to be a journalist (biggest waste of 15k and three years I could ever have imagined) the most important thing to learn was cut the crap. Seriously. You don't even realise it's there most of the time. And then when you've cut it all down to the bone, working on things like 'voice' isn't quite so hard since there's so few words to work with in the first place.

Good luck!

bitch I'm taking calls.
It's because primary and secondary school essays teach you to emphasise and engorge in fluff to pad out your writing and find eloquent ways of repeating the same thing over and over. It is the absolute opposite of the desired style in real life working environments.

Short, concise and to the point is the mode required there. The more briefly you can get across the same information the more appreciated your writing will be.
