I like the new rules, especially the repost rule. I hope my posts are okay though. When I do simple posts, it usually goes along the lines like this:

It's linking to another website, but I do this because if I were to list all the crap I have onto here, it would literally take up a whole page similar to 50 posts. It's the reason why I had to separate my sales posts in different journal entries because of the character limit. So yeah, I hope that's alright. I still do my transactions here when people PM me.

Oh, and I have a question about the linking to auction sites. What about forum auctions? Every once in a while, I'll have a forum auction on CAG or GTZ and I'll post it here to advertise. I just finished one on CAG about a week ago and it usually looks like this. So am I not allowed to post this in the future when I have another auction?

I am disappointed that it took "rules" to get people to stop repeat posting on the same (100 post) page. I mean, it was so bad, that people who just happened to have their post on the bottom of a "page" would immediately repost it so it was on the top of the new page. Have some goddamn courtesy and common sense.

The default setting for everyone's forum reading pleasure is 50 pages per thread... true, it is anyone's prerogative to change the default to 100 pages, but at the same time other posters should not be held accountable for another poster's choice of settings when reposting their wares. That's not fair.

You are missing the point. It doesn't matter if the default page setting was 10, 20, or 200 posts per page. The point is that repeating the same post within 50-100 posts is simply too frequent.

The initial proposal of "150 posts" is actually more convenient for those who still putter around with the default settings, as it equals three pages compared to 1.5 pages for everyone else. I think once every 100 is still too frequent and it should be 200.

That's more than fine. I mean it. I'd recommend listing a few of the items that you have, just so that people get to see it here. But that's fine.

I've been asked about this before, and my general rule of thumb here is that if you cross-post on both forums, make sure the two posts are identical, and give feedback where you actually made the transaction.

Additionally, I understand that some people like the rules/guidelines/whatever you want to call them, and some people think they're controversial. Let's hold off on talking too much about it. I just PM'd the moderation team in regards to it. (I was very polite about it, nobody got thrown under the bus or anything like that.) One of the moderators said that they were going to bring it up with the rest of the moderators, and see what they think about them. That moderator did mention that it would take up to a few days before a consensus was made, so for now, let's just go about business as usual.

no, I think it's you that misses the point: you can want what you want all you want, but that does not mean anyone has to give you what you want. You know what I mean? We can clutter this thread with proposals/wishes/suggestions dressed up as 'rules' until the cows come home, but unless the GAF admin support sees fit to support/enforce any such 'rules' it's all just more wasted posts. I mean it's a cute thought, but this thread does NOT exist unto itself as a democratic, separate entity from greater GAF. lolz

While I agree that a rule set based on the honor system is a tough sell, a "no rules" approach is just as bad for similar reasons, people will abuse the system.

Also while I like the 150 post idea something else that would be nice is if people actually edited their reposts instead of just adding more shit. I hate coming across a post from someone where a quarter of what they're selling is slashed through or bolded due to being sold, if it's sold then why are you still listing it. Waste of space.

Pictures answer a lot of questions that save the time of PMing back and forth. They're also entirely better than a wall of text. I don't understand why price should factor into someone seeing what they're about to buy.

Right-- that's the best part about what we have here. It's a pretty open marketplace and we risk muddying it up with rules and whatnot.

Yeah, but that logic removes the feedback form, allows for repeat scammers, allows for shady eBay listings, links to CAG posts and - as used to happen - reposts 2-3 times a page.

Nobody is saying you can't repost. The guidelines (which we really ought to vote for) would just make it so that it's once for every 1-2 pages. Hardly the iron fist of repression, folks.

And every thread on GAF operates under it's own subset of the general rules. SportsGAF can get away with trash talk that'll get you banned elsewhere. Same with Hip-HopGAF. Some threads exist solely to post spoilers, derailing a thread with innocuous comments can get you banned, etc. There is precedent for individual threads agreeing to 'guidelines' if not hard and fast laws.

My thoughts are this

1) the eBay thing definitely has to go. The whole thread could get shut down for good if one transaction goes sour via another site from GAF.

2) No offense to some of you power sellers (I'm one too) but the ones who tend to repost the most are the ones upset at the idea of having to actually manage their posts less frequently. There is a fine line between getting your sales out there and spam. Some of you definitely cross it. Is one post per 1-2 pages really harmful to your bottom line? We can all see that you're reposting the same stuff, so it's not like it's selling based on that.

And the posting a long ass list with half of them crossed out? Laziness at it's worse. Manage your listings, folks. It's marketing and sales 101. The only person I put on ignore was a seller who was selling the same shit over and over again. People tend to get annoyed by perceived spam - whether it's your intention or not.

3) People bitching about other's pricing? Get over it. A seller isn't going to drop their price because you can find it on an eBay auction for a dollar less.

The shirt is basically brand new, worn only once to try it on -- and realize that I ordered the wrong size! It includes the original box, care guide, and two stickers (King of Games and Super Mario Bros. 85).
