Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 |OT| Got 99 Problems, But Sales Ain't One.

That... makes no sense.

I guess I should have been more clear. They nerfed some things down to Blops level like the nade launchers, but on the other hand quickscoping is back in (I guess it could be argued it never totally went away)... with a vengeance.

Quick questions I've been curious about:

1) Is it one prestige token per prestiged game, or 1 token per prestige in previous games?
2) How does stalker work for weapons in which you already would normally move at 100% speed while aiming down the sight (like pistols and SMGs)
3) Does aiming down the sight affect shotgun spread?

To each their own I guess. My personal opinion was that CoD4 is still the pinnacle of map design for the series.

MW2 was a mixed bag for me. Loved some, hated others. and BLOPS I just didn't care for those maps much at all. Too many spaces and go, too confusing.

I know they have said for MW3, maps will have fewer danger spots and clearer sight lines, so I am optimistic.

Oops... I think I badly quoted there. I was responding to you responding to him about CoD4 style maps :V

To rephrase - MW3 maps are good. They aren't exactly like MW1 or MW2 maps, they feel like a 'best of' in several places (I didn't like blops maps due to sightline issues and mirroring).

There are really tight intense maps with clear chokepoints (these will be sweet in S&D/Demo/etc, feel almost counterstrikish), and there are slightly mazy maps with tons of flanking routes (these will be awesome for run and gunners who love flanking), and there are larger maps with multiple conflict zones (these will be awesome for more mid-long range fighting and zone control).

And there are a few oddballs, though nothing quite like Shipment or Rust, and thankfully, nothing I reviled as much as Wetwork or Highrise (fuck those linear maps).

There's also one map that makes me giggle to even think about, because ultra campy kdr whores are going to hate it with a passion. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up pretty much no matter where I stand on it, with that 'oh god I'm going to get shot in the ass' feeling.

I haven't played too much but the maps seem like really maze-y, corridor affairs. More like MW2 then COD4 for sure. Not digging it so far but I don't really know my way around yet. Some friends that have been putting more hours into it than me HATE the maps though. "Claustrophobic" was one way they described them.
This sounds very disappointing.

I was a sniper on all maps in COD4, I hope I can do the same in all the mw3 maps.

How many indoor areas do most of the maps have?
Do any of the maps look like there will be not enough indoor areas if someone got a chopper gunner?

Victrix, which maps are large like Derail, Overgrown, etc?

Interchange, Outpost, and Lockdown are all sizable maps with a lot of potential for long range combat. Interchange feels like a less-stupid Wasteland to some extent. Sniper haters will hate it :V

Downturn has some long range areas, but it's an... odd map, you'll see. Resistance also has some longer sight lines, though it isn't as large.

Seatown is a medium large map, but its really mazy, with a lot of buildings and alleys. Awesome map if you were a fan of the mixed alley/street/building fighting in some MW1/2 maps.

A lot. Minimap also shows indoor areas clearly with a light blue highlight, which is nice.

No, there's almost always cover, even on Interchange which is a hugely open map (highway overpasses provide hard overhead cover). Also, I wouldn't sweat the gunner this time around. It's at the end of the assault streak, not a lot of people are going to be pulling it out consistently, and even if they do, you know what your Stinger is for.

Would you say the maps are generally balanced for all play styles or are there some that seem only for machine gunners? I love COD4 maps because they all had a sizable distance and snipers could play too if they were good enough. World at War had some awful small maps though.

I had serious, serious problems with blops maps because they didn't just hate on snipers, they hated on long range combat period.

That is very much not the case in MW3. There are some smaller maps that are definitely 'bring an SMG/shotgun' run and gun style maps, but even on those, there's only one or two where you'd be at a marked disadvantage vs the typical short range or AR build (and on those you could tear ass with an LMG in the right spots, endless ammo + small map = come get some).

Also I dunno where people are coming out saying this game is loaded with hyper cramped maps, go play CoD4 again, some of those maps were _small_ (and also a few had a lot of useless space - these feel better designed to avoid that this time around)

Boosters will be 1 of those 99 problems LOL

Boosters are gonna get banned so hard. IW can see how they got their kills and where they got the kills. If you see boosters, use the ingame report feature.

i dont care... bring on the small maps!!! enough of this camping bullshit lol

With so many different perks, equipment, and killstreaks, there is a way to counter any campers. Remote turrets and the remote helicopter should be 2 ways to counter campers.

On a side note I am so pumped for this game, so many choices I can not wait!!!!

I... don't even register the camper complaints. They just don't make a lot of sense to me. I realize they bug the shit out of some people but they've been around since the dawn of fps gaming, you still haven't figured out how to deal with em?

Let's go through some scenarios:

1) He camps, he kills you, you see his killcam and know where you died. You return and grenade/shoot him through a wall.

2) He camps, kills you and a few other people, contributes nothing to the scoreboard in tdm, never caps an objective in objective modes, contributes nothing.

3) He camps, you spot him next to his portable radar through the wall with Sitrep and drill his dumb ass.

4) He camps, you toss a concussion grenade into the room/alley/whatever and light him up with Recon, then drill his dumb ass.

5) He camps, because he's defending the fucking objective in S&D/Demo/CTF/Dom, what do you expect him to do? :p

The scary players aren't the campers, they're the ones who know when to camp and when to move aggressively, but people have some weird mental rulebook that everyone else has to play by ("Ok, meet me out on the street at a blind run, then we both ADS our assault rifles at 30 paces and the best man wins! All else is foul knavery!")

Sorry, ranting because MW3 isn't out everywhere and I'm bored waiting for mass multiplayer action :p

Honestly I just hate campers in FFA. In objective games like you pointed out it's called locking down the enemy. I don't even like playing FFA anymore due to it and I used to play that the most when MW2 came out.

I actually agree with you in this one case, but I don't like FFA at all in MW or any other game of this type - it just doesn't play well. FFA only works if you can actually get into a firefight that lasts more than two hits, and games where you die in 1-3 bullets don't work that way. Quake/UT/Tribes style combat - sure, you can have interesting battles just by roaming around.

Otherwise, in a FFA situation where everyone is your enemy and moving around is going to get you drilled by the dude watching the corner, staking out a corner of the map and evicting everyone who comes near you is simply smart play.

Or to put it another way, blame the game mode, not the player.

(as an aside, I'm so bummed about Sabotage for similar game design reasons - it should be one of my favorite modes, but because it has no half time, some maps suck ass for one side, and everyone treats it as glorified TDM instead)

If you read the op, and you felt this game was a little cluttered, you may be right. There seems to be now flow. The maps are too small.

If he showed off private match modes in a dubiously legal stream, does that mean I can talk about my favorite one? :V

edit: I can't believe this kid is streaming this early and just sitting on the menus instead of running around maps or playing private games.

What I'm about to say is totally silly and dumb but...

I really don't like the green they picked for the menus. Looks like a "sick" green.

I'm hoping MW3 will get added to Amazon's Buy 2 Get 1 Free but I doubt it.
As it stands, the deal is set to expire this weekend. Sucks, considering they've added all the other big recent releases. It'd be nice if they decide to extend it and include MW3 and Skyrim.

So nobody really answered my question. Are killstreaks like Black Ops where you can only use 3 in a game?

Not sure what you mean? They're the same as they've ever been, three streaks in any loadout. Barring Specialist I suppose, which is three perks.

I don't understand how channels get shut down just because someone is playing the game early. I mean if they bought the fucking game and didn't pirate it, who the fuck cares?

This is pretty much exactly my thoughts.
And on another note I hope the game/maps are closer to what you think than what the others are saying..

Either way, only 5 days away! (for most of us..:/)
