Kash Patel is a performative hack, I have no idea why the fuck he got this position in the first place.
It's easy to see it this way, and Patel's "I'll see you in Valhalla" was really cringy, but there is more to catching a criminal than getting a criminal caught. Even when someone directly admits what he has done, you need to have enough evidence to keep him caught and to get him in court. They had done plenty of detective work to get all kinds of evidence that allowed them to keep him in instead of having to let him go too. They also probably got ridiculous amount of hints based on baseless findings of internet detectives who were 100% certain they had found the shooter, but ended up being wrong. They had to go through all of that too.
I'm not saying they couldn't have been able to catch the guy themselves with different methods or with a different director. But I'm saying they probably did a lot more than they are given credit for, to actually keep him caught.

Its totally despicable. Its been obvious for a while that the right is 100% fine with cancel culture. I pointed this out recently when they were targeting a small indie game just getting funding from MS and it was blown up by the usual suspects to try and get it shut down. No death threats. Yes, humor is subjective, but some things are generally considered in poor taste, and this is one of them. A lot of the heinous tweets have ridiculously high likes. My gut tells me it driven by bots to further escalate tensions, specifically from China, Russia and India.
