How many levels? 10?

Yeah there are 10 levels in Hope archive, in the last one the games throws everything in your way but it's really awesome. I love the disco kinda looking thing at the end of the Hope, it really looks cool :)

Wario64

works for Gamestop (lol)
Not gonna lie, I didn't even know about the Hope archive until a couple days ago. I thought it was just the ending of the game since I didn't see any stats displayed on the main menu, so I avoided playing it....lol

Hope is raping me.
The start of Level 6 gets me every time, I'm just not fast enough to open those "doors".
Struggling to get 100% on Matrix too, I keep getting 99% with no idea what I'm missing.
How people can get 100% purified AND score 800,000 points for gold stars I'll never know. Kudos to you guys.
I'll keep hammering it, I might get lucky eventually!

if level 6 is getting you down no worries, ultimately that is the hardest part to replay imo, even if the other spots seem more daunting later, there isn't much of a 'trick' for 6.

Wario or anyone want to share some insight on scoring and perfect octo-locks? It doesn't seem to make sense to me sometimes, I will think I surely have a perfect lock but don't get credit for it. I do not own a Kinect.

Also, this game fucking rules.

You''ll get it mate, just don't give up. The way I did it, was going for 100% purification on the level first, to learn the pattern of enemies and how long they stay on the screen. When I got that pretty good I went for 800K score (not gold). I did a few 800K score runs to learn where are the best places to get points, to get the beat in my head and stuff like that. Then I just combined those two runs in one gold star run. At first I didn't even think I'll be able to get 100% purification on any level and now I can gold star any archive on normal on every run. Time that you put into this game is really paying off at the end of the day.

Does anyone have a problem with the music transitions on Journey?
It's a great archive, and the music is fantastic, but the transitions between segments are really jarring and lacking in fluidity. I swear when the second segment starts theres even a barely noticeable blip in the song as it changes tracks. It really doesn't feel very coherent.

I'm also just having weird feedback issues with the audio in general, but I don't know how much of it is my mind playing tricks on me. I feel like on some playthroughs the music doesn't sound anywhere near as good but, I can't figure out if I'm actually doing something different.

how long are the later/harder levels?

You mean in Hope archive? 10th level is the longest and most crazy but there are only two or three hard parts. Level 9 and 8 are little shorter, probably the length of 7th level, which is, I think same as the 6th level. If you can get to level 10 with full health and euphoria then you'll beat it without a problem, if not, than you might not be able to get it done.

My god this game.

Goodness just ebbs from it.

Euphoric is how i'd best describe playing this with Kinect first 20 mins i was huh

Once it clicked i became a space conductor.

If that's as bad as it's gonna get I'll keep at it. I was expecting it to get worse and worse and worse till the end.

Thanks, your way sounds like a good plan, I am improving, slowly!

Yes! Some of those transitions really pull me out of it, which is a shame because I absolutely love that tune.

Man there is nothing more frustrating than beating the last main level thinking you got all 100 percent and realizing somewhere, somehow, you missed something somewhere. Time to take a break from this game for a bit.. I have level 5 down pat mostly, anyone got tips for level 4 (my last one to go for gold on)

There is pretty much only one place that you can mess up on Journey and it is the very beginning of the level where you have to light all the black blocks, you have to wait for the orange blocks/squares to be at the right place to light them up. At the end everything, every single square has to be lighten up to get 100%. You could also miss something on the whale part, but you will know if you did cause it will shoot rockets at you.

What an absolutely fantastic game.
But is it better than Rez?

Let's see -
It has better graphics, better art, more cohesive levels, better controls (both pad and kinect), more interesting enemies, much better boss battles and a brilliant little collectible system.
So you'll think it's better, and you'll be wrong.
And the reason you're wrong is because this >>>>>>>>>>>>> [snip] >>>>>>>>>>> this.

Don't get me wrong, it's an incredible game, and I'll be shocked if it's not my GOTY, but on games like these, music trumps all.
And it's not even that it's bad, it has great music for a video game.
Rez had great music.

p.s.
Maybe it's a reflection on the state of electronic music in 2001 and 2011, or maybe video game designers should just stick to designing video games.

I got all the first part and the tree at the end, and the whale never shot me -_-

very annoying.

It's better than Rez because it has Genki Rockets.

I love how much mileage The Miz has gotten out of Heavenly Star.

What about humans? Are you sure you destroy them before the time runs out? If you won't the game will still move forward but it won't award you with 100% purification. Next time when you go for this level check the purification rate, when the last human is down to know if you killed it or the game.

More cohesive levels and more interesting enemies? What game are you playing? Child of Eden is way more about the sheer spectacle of playing, rather than actually playing. It doesn't feel complete, and it's occasionally downright boring.

Let me try to explain what I mean by that.

More cohesive levels -
You can easily tell describe most levels in Child of Eden in one word, you know, "the plant level", "the machinery levels" (which I guess you have to be from to Japan to understand why it's called "passion" and has a very strong sexual undertone to it, but I digress) etc.
How would you describe Area 3 in Rez?

More interesting enemies -
There are more enemies that requires a tactic different than "lock on x times" in this game.
I find it interesting.

p.s.
None of this should be seen as a knock on Rez which is still my favorite game of all time.

I love Rez too but I genuinely think Child of Eden is more fun because of this:

Ok, I can kinda dig your definition of coherent. Level3 of rez has always seemed vaguely casino-y to me.

I kind of agree with your statement about more interesting combat, there are some really great moments in I think it's the Beauty boss where it spits out long lines of pink enemies and you have to paint across to hit them, but you occasionally swipe across the flower/bassdrum thing in the middle and make music. That stuff is REALLY cool. But it's only a few specific moments.

That's what I mean when I said the game feels incomplete, there are a lot of really interesting concepts and scenarios, but it doesn't quite come together. It feels like a few levels just need more segments, too.

There are parts in this game where the music is going crazy, and the screen is lighting up gorgeously.. but you the player are doing practically nothing. And I never once felt like that with the first game. I don't know if kinect support messed with the pacing, or what.. but after playing this game very very heavily the past few days I'm already finding myself bored at spots.. which is pretty indefensible IMO.

It just feels less interactive in general. And much less deliberate.

I don't have a kinect, but am playing this like Rez. I can only get 2 mahafuckin stars on the first level. How does the scoring work? In rez u just had to rape all the enemies on screen. But this one says "Perfect!" and "Good." what feels like at random. The only constant is that I maxed out my lock on. Like Rez though, the game sounds good when you rapid fire A - it's quantized to match a steady beat. Even though it seems like i'm doing awesome, I still only get 2 stars :(

EBA "HAAALLLP!" me, gaf.

You have to release a lock on with 8 targets on a beat to get a "perfect", which increases your multiplier (until you get up to x8, then it just keeps it at 8). If you get a "good" you were close to the beat, it doesn't add to your multiplier but it keeps it at the current level. If you release an octo-lock without getting a good or perfect, your multiplier is reset.

bish gets all the credit :)
Will 100% even be possible with a controller? I've cleared level 5 with 2 stars and am struggling to get into the 90%'s. I do dislike the fact that they lock off some of the levels until you beat the prior ones multiple times/3 or 4 star them.

Yes, I'm on 99% for 3 of the Archives with a controller

I bought this on Friday night and still haven't had a chance to play it, but I have a feeling this is definitely going to be a big issue for me. The music I've heard so far in all the preview clips has been disappointing to say the least. I'm sure when I'm caught up in the game itself it won't bother me so much, but man, the music in Rez is fucking legendary, and I probably can't help but make that my main point of comparison.

If you single shot or < 8 shot does it do anything to your mult? or just get modified by it?

ninja edit: also where can you see your multiplier?

So does "Hope" unlock after beating all of the archives? The last part of "Journey" is kicking my ass. :(

Don't worry, it's not bubblegum synthpop throughout, in fact, the music is quite great for a video game, nothing as memorable as when the hook from California Soul kicked on area 5 or Boss Attacks, but there a several very nice segments there.
And seriously, it's a fantastic game, if you loved Rez you're in for a treat; it's just me being cranky that instead of Adam Freeland and Coldcut we get generic jpop band #342.

p.s.
spoiler? maybe? only if you're sensitive to these sort of things.
But trying to high score Journey, man oh man does that singer is starting to get on my fucking nerves.

goldenpp72

Member
Yeah the singing in level 5 is pretty grating upon trying to score attack, I finally beat it on hard mode with a gold star, and like the level aside that aspect.

The rest of the game though, I love the music, especially in hope when wave 4 starts, so fucking cool :)

Strange comments going on in the GB review page. It was awarded 3/5.

Several community agreeing with the review, and stating that it should be a downloadable game. Note - the people in question haven't played the game, so how exactly they come to that decision is beyond me.

As much as I like GB and the guys behind it, a fairly large proportion of their community seem to ride on their coat tails and are seem to be only able to mimic the GB staff's opinion and not form their own.

I bought Kinect for this game, playing it with your hands is a really awesome experience, so I think it's worth it.
My only problem is I have no use for it other than Child of Eden, there's nothing else coming out for Kinect that I'm interested in.

Project D and Draco will both be very interesting concepts that I am sure will get good Kinect use. We will see at least.

My girlfriend and I are thinking of doing shrooms while playing this on kinect. Would it be too hard you think?

If you're gonna do drugs with CoE or Rez, then it has to be ecstasy. Miz is an experienced clubber, he'd agree ;)

Giant flower right? Sweep with the tracer if you don't mind losing points to activate the core vulnerability spot, the rest is just pattern memorisation. You probably know this by now, but always prioritise bullets ahead of dealing damage.

Got over 1,000,000 points on stage 1 and I still can't get over 91% purification, lol. It seems the hardest part of this game is memorizing the spawns of every enemy, since keeping the your multiplier is pretty easy once you get used to it. That's kinda annoying, but whatever. Still a pretty fun game.
