Circana March 2025: #1 AC Shadows #2 MLB The Show #4 WWE 2K #5 Split Fiction #8 Bleach ; PS5 #1 Units + Rev, XBS #2 Units + Rev

Per last reporting, Split Fiction sold 2 million in one week and KCD2 sold 2 million in two weeks after their respective releases.

Bizarre.

I've never seen anyone ever before argue this much against a game selling well despite it being the #1 best selling game of the month.
Now we are getting somewhere. How many multi-millions have they sold? 2m? 8m?

Because the 'proof' so far offered for that is flimsy at best.
Based on mr.piscatella's comments ac shadows is between 1.1 and 2.3 million copies in the us (low end is if dollars sales are just above origins/2 and high just below ac 3), difficult to nail down because ac valhalla and ac 3 launches were huge ,3 million range and then the next entry was in the 1.3 million range ,

Per last reporting, Split Fiction sold 2 million in one week and KCD2 sold 2 million in two weeks after their respective releases.
This is why the sales of the games below it matter in the context of proving success and the game above it selling 10 million or 10 billion is neither here nor there. Valhalla is reckoned to have sold 15-20m; Shadows surpassing 2m is a given. It may well be significantly higher than that, but we cannot establish that from what is currently being offered as proof.

I've never seen anyone ever before argue this much against a game selling well despite it being the #1 best selling game of the month.
I'm arguing that this "#1 best selling game of the month" does not prove this "a game selling well", because it doesn't without additional information. A big franchise being #1 in a month without a competitor in the same league proves very little.

Ok, but Shadows is still the highest selling game of the month overall, just not on one specific platform.

Ok?

We know it exceeded multi-million sellers which have been in the market for longer like Split Fiction and KCD2 and is only behind MH Wilds as far as total sales of the year go so far.

I don't know why you keep applying extra caveats to it instead of just agreeing that it has sold well.

The absolute intense need and desire from some of y'all to hate on the game is laughable 🤭

Why are you so defensive for the game that you immediately get defensive about a random post. I dont give two tits about the game, whether it does good or magical black samurais in a game series 15 years past its prime. I was curious about numbers being deceiving and if you could come to a logical conclusion about production numbers in the game industry. I work in the industry for a living and watching studios fall to pieces in the west has been a not so enjoyable experience, even though i work in the east now. I did work in the US and it was almost unbearable with the direction things were going. It was inevitable the way so many studios have no closed. I wanted to see how overblown some of the production costs are. 2 billion is too much but im going to estimate that it came close to around 900 million to make this game.

900 million to make what game? AC Shadows?

I didn't say that but if a product doesn't turn a profit how would you describe it?
But we hardly ever know if a game made a profit other than 'it had to have' situations. We pretty much never know the full budget including advertising etc.

I mean roblox is PS2 era graphics, mainly user generated content, reliably one of the top ten played games, brings in $4 billion a year - yet still loses money. That's like selling roughly 80 million copies of a game in a year, all at full price, and losing money.

If you go back to the beginning of the thread, the whole start was Topher Topher declaring the game not a "flop" based on no concrete information. I never said it was a flop or a success or called any and all games flops. I don't know anything about Roblox or its revenue but gass games seem to operate very differently from traditional games.

Nah, not a chance. It's $50, and AC is $70. Circana tracks dollar sales. I don't think Oblivion has more than a slight chance to enter the top 10 in the Year to date chart. I don't think it makes #8.

Oblivion at #3 YTD in the US apparently. Probably still has a ways to go to catch up to Shadows but it's performing well.

Puts into perspective how impressive being second was if third got overtaken in one week by an unmarketed Oblivion remaster which is available on game pass.
