CIVILIZATION VI |OT| He's Got the Whole World in His Hands

After 6 hours, two more civs converted and one civ dead. So close to finishing.

Apostles keep losing promotions as you advance through the eras. At first they could only get the medic promotion, now they don't even have any promotions at all. The Proselytizer promotion is amazing in converting other civs to your religion, too bad I have only one single charge left.

If my army of 12 apostles can't make a dent in Spain through religious combat, I'm just going have to conquer them and subjugate them by force.

One of the Civilizations that is friendly to me just declared war on an allied city-state that is within my territory.

Any options other than protectorate war?

Don't open borders?

Some people are getting a 1gb(ish) update, but it seems to just be higher quality soundtrack files (though only .ogg not. flac). I unticked 25th Anniversary Soundtrack in my installed DLC list, and it removed the update entirely.

With regards to the exclusion folder to put into Windows Defender... are we taking about Steam/steamapps/common/Civ6?

I'd like to come to the aid of a civ by declaring a joint war but can't because they're unfriendly. Helping them out should be a way to make them friendly(er).

Does the amount of cities still negatively affect research rates or should I just spam cities everywhere? Also, is there a point in having a pop work on a district tile?

I don't believe there's a penalty. However you will spread your amenities/luxury resources thin if you spam mindlessly. Working a district tile just gives you +2 yield of the district. It's a toned down version of Civ5's specialists.

Ah, good point, some of my cities are complaining already but I'm now slowly getting in contact with the civs of the other continent so trade should patch that up.

One more thing; do you get still the bonus from clearing f. ex. woods if you just drop a district on it, rather than have a builder clear it out first?

each city and district becomes more expensive (math is hidden) the more get made, but tech cost doesn't change

the district tiles have yields that might be more important than some mediocre tile with 1 improvement. they don't have food, so it's usually only when you're done growing or at a housing cap or something

there's no penalty anymore, but building more settlers and districts accumulate the more you build

you wouldn't really notice it in districts though

nope sadly, you have to clear it out first

same with resources, you have to harvest it out first

Holy shit. I just completed my first game of Civ ever. Won on a Culture Victory with Rome. Got a real good feel for the game and will start up again and aim for Science. Feels good after all the effort and time to make it to the end. Hopefully I can expand quicker because I took my sweet time moving out, especially with going on other continents.

In Civ V and Civ VI I thought of Spearmen as throwaway units unless an A.I. near you had a Calvary special unit, but in Civ VI they have a 2nd level unit upgrade that doubles their attack power when they are linked with a Support unit. That is ridiculous.

I mean, be nice if you could elaborate...

Looking to play the game with a friend.

oh, sorry.

I mean it is a "board game". You can choose to ally with who you want. In your case, since one of the players are human.... you can just start up a discord chat and communicate with him online directly.

The game is very fluid in how you choose "teams". You'll need to work together choosing policies that benefit both of you. Work land far away from each other. And open up borders and trade routes to each other.

I dont have any friends that play Civ, youre lucky :c

Wow. Easy Deity win for difficulty achievements.

Play as any civ with any religious bonuses. Then play against Kongo. Easy if done in a Duel map.

Basically just hang tight until you get your first religion, all while building warriors or archers to deflect his attempt of DoW. Tend send all your missionaries on his town.

My collection of great artists I don't have room to accommodate the great works of grows:

Currently wandering the jungles of the Kongo:

-Johann Sebastian Bach
-El Greco
-Mary Shelley
-Jang Seung-Op
-Antonio Vivaldi
-Leo Tolstoy
-Jane Austen

I'm currently holding this many great works, really need to find room for the rest:

I see the Mac version is out. Anyone with a ratty old Radeon 6770M test it to see if you can run small maps?

I just installed it on my late 2014 15" MBP with a "beefy" GT 750M and, well, it's not that great.

The Benchmark with no settings changed (all at minimum I think) at 1680×1050 sits at a solid 15FPS...

Playing it right now at 1440x900 and it looks playable but not great.

Loading times are much better than on my Desktop though, I think thats because of that insanely fast SSD.

I don't see a way to offer great people. Or did you mean offer existing great works so I open up slots?

oh you mean the great person themselves? they are expensive, deleting them will give you lots of gold

I thought you were referring to great works

Fuck a duck, I missed out on founding a religion.

Usually I wouldn't care, but this is my first game and I wanna see all the stuff!

Would you restart if you were me?

Finished up my first domination victory with China. The great wall was interesting, but it is a shame is needs to take up so many tiles to be worth while. My gosh though, the end game grind is insane. Should have turned on quick combat. Watching 10 crossbowmen plink at my helicopters and tanks got old really quickly. Ended up just a-bombing the last two civs on the same turn and walking in unopposed.

Last strange note, apparently there was uranium under my capital. I did move my start settler two spaces at the beginning, but the strange thing was that it never showed me the uranium icon on the map. It notified me that I found a source of uranium and when I clicked on the alert it just centered on my capital. I could see it elsewhere on the map, but there was no icon to be found near my capital. Strange.

Going to hold off on more domination victories for a while. The late game was taking so long every turn, even when I was just moving units with no combat. I miss my stack-o-doom for that...

I'm finding the AI a lot more aggressive in this game. I've often had two civs declare war on me in the same turn, only for them to be begging for mercy ~15 turns later after I shooed them off with an army of crossbowmen. Usually ends up with them offering me about 50 gold and 3 gold per turn.

Sounds about what I figured.

Did you test it at all in strategic view? I really wanted to give the game a whirl and was considering just using small maps and strategic view until I can get a new laptop.

Holy shit I just bought this game yesterday and now I know what all of you ment by saying how time flies while you play this game. I just started yesterday and boom, 8 hours felt like an hour and now I'm sleepy as hell in work cuz I only got like 3 hours of sleep, lol. Amazing game.

I just destroyed Spain. Serves them right for trying to go for a religious victory. Everyone hates me now, but my military is so strong I doubt they have much of a chance to compete.

It is definitely a lot harder for me to win now. I used to win almost every game with my friends and now I get destroyed because the science victory was made super hard now. I apparently need to learn more about the religion and culture victories...or start bombing friends which probably won't go well.

Thanks for creating this conversation on Discord between my friends and I, we're all dying of laughter. [I'm Blur]

Blur: ...holy shit i can also just delete them for a cool 1000 gold
[03:06] Alisara: jfc
[03:06] Blur: let the ritual sacrificing of Mary Shelley begin
[03:06] Alisara: WH-
[03:06] Blur: truly, frankenstein was a self-fulfilling prophecy
[03:07] Blur: In this situation, Bach shall be the monster, stabbing her with a violin. it takes a lot of effort but he's being paid well.
[03:08] Alisara: Christ.
[03:08] Alisara: Communism is brutal.
[03:08] Blur: Ooh, he made Cello Suite No. 1. My favorite bach work.
[03:09] Blur: My civilization don't play y'all.
[03:11] Blur: This is probably why no one declares war on me.

[03:12] Alisara: You're gonna go cult here in a minute.
[03:12] Blur: Oh sweet we invented professional sports. Now we can sell tickets to Mary Shelley's resurrection.
[03:12] Alisara: Pffff
[03:12] Saruya: is that a sport
[03:12] Blur: It is in my civilization.
[03:12] Blur: And if you disagree you'll get the same treatment as Rockefeller.
[03:12] Alisara: Competitive Resurrection.
[03:13] Blur: I burned him to get oil, and in my civ's case, I'm being literal.
[03:13] Alisara stares.

strategic view is fine I think, runs well, but is not the Civ I want to play ;)

It's not much worse than 5 though, so I'm ok with that.

The game is great but there are some major exploits that need patching.
Selling units is crazy OP, such that buffing unit production with a civic, disbanding and rush-buying is probably cheaper then building something.
Christ knows what Sythia would be like if she gets 100 or 150 gold per horse archer.

Negotiating is also bugged so the AI will eventually agree to any deal if you keep haggling.

Not surprising there are some balance issues though, due to the vast complexity of the game. I'm as overwhelmed as a Brexit minister right now.

One question, what advantages do you get for founding a religion vs just accepting a decent AI one? Other than the obvious religious victory issues.

I just accidentally won with culture while pursuing science lmao

I've been playing for culture as Brazil on Islands (Epic). I reached the modern era in 1300 due to Civics and the Information Era in 1700. I'm still 80 tourists off winning and my production is so bad it took me 100 turns to build the great opera house. I have no idea if I'm going to win or if I should just give up.

I had the Brazillian battleship while everyone else still had galleys lol.

Are you leading for culture?

The game is surprisingly easy... I just won my second game on Immortal (8 difficulty level) and I've never won a game on 7 in Civ 5 (over 350h played). It's like AI doesn't really want to win. At modern era I was at 5th place for culture victory and at 4th for science victory and in the end I would win both if I wanted. Really weird...

Also, end game is still boring and boils down to watching as turns process. Especially science victory - it takes soooooo looooooooooong to build all the modules. Even with good production city. Just boring, really.

I suppose since there are already 5 major religions, I'm not able to do anything with my religious points or pantheon? I shouldn't have wasted blocks on religion ...

I'm currently well into my second game and like in the first the city-states seems to not upgrade theirs units at all. Still rocking with warriors 200 turns in. I guess that's a bug ?

You will have to get religion from another Civ. You can try to kick start it with a trading route.
