College Football 2016 Championship Week: Of Meaningless Titles

Extremely excited to be in the playoff, when I looked at the schedule before the season I didn't think it was going to happen. Go Bucks.

Thought for a second the dates for these bowl games were weird but then realized new years is on a Sunday.

Conference titles are meaningless now, and the Big 12 will play a conference title next year....with 10 teams....and if the big 12 had a title game this year, OU v. OSU would have played in consecutive weeks.

Conferences are meaningless as well at this point. And considering how much everyone talked up schedules we might as well have everyone go independent and create new schedules at the start of each season.

Michigan vs Florida State - Meh.

I know the Seniors will be disappointed about not making the playoffs but hopefully they can drum up some motivation for their final game.

USC PSU in the Rose Bowl? Thought Colorado would get the Rose Bowl.

Did USC jump the Buffs?

A battle of sanctioned programs. One that got off Scott free for raping little boys and one that suffered for half a decade because a player's parents got a house to convince him to leave school early.

Seems like a good matchup.

If the committee said they wouldn't put PSU in ever I would be fine with it. The program should have been handled like WWE handled Benoit.

It's logically a flawed argument and a silly one. It wasnt jsut one team was 11-1 and one was 10-2 and one was OSU and one wasnt. It was what were those 10 and 11 wins and what were those 1 and 2 loses.

Im not saying brand and money didnt influences stuff, its influences everything. But you can jsut say give them one more loss, and where are we.

I think you're being deliberately obtuse because it involves your team. Literally switch both teams names so that tOSU has two losses. One to Pitt. They beat Penn State at home.

Penn state has 1 loss and doesn't go to the championship game but has the same record tOSU does now. They stay home while tOSU goes to the championship and beats Wisconsin.

Switching it around and OSU definitely would be in and the arguement would be that championships matter. That's the problem with having a comittee. They use whatever narrative is needed to justify their picks and can change from year to year. Same stuff happens with the basketball committee every year.
Oh you're definitely right. Just want everyone else to admit it.

Ahh Bowl Selection Sunday, also known as the day fans complain about the possibility of traveling to Shreveport to play in the Independence Bowl

I'm not being obtuse I think it's and oversimplification to an extreme, reduces things down way too much, and it's much more complicated than move a loss here and take this loss away. Was penn st ranked higher when osu beats them? Penn st also benefits from Ohio states name brand because beating Ohio state meant something this season. It's not just they lost games it's how. You can explain away Pitt and you could explain away a close loss to Michigan. Know what you can't explain away? 49-10. That is and was the number 1 thing holding psu back, and absolute schalacking

NW and Pitt get the honor of playing in yankee stadium in late December. How fun

Crappiest bowl destination all around.

It pains me that whenever Rutgers would be bowl eligible they'll force us to that crap hole just because of logistics.

Everything is overpriced like crazy and the sightlines are awful.

Plus who wants to go to a Bowl Game in below freezing temperatures?

Hancock: "Football seasons are like snowflakes. They're all different. Next year we'll be talking about a different way it came out."

AKA we will decide whats important to justify our teams and please remember that when we place a conference champion in next year and use that as our excuse

Also Seasons are like snowflakes seems like something Butch Jones would say

Maybe one day we will hit the pint where someone can use snowflakes as a simile and then not feel the need to say, "Each one is different!" right after.

Or maybe we can find a new analogy to trot out.

Football seasons are like a box of chocolates.

One thing for sure. Washington needs to buy out Montana game next year and try to get top 25 opponent so it is not back in same spot.

I'd hate to be back in the playoffs next season.

Ehhh, what a crummy year for CF. These bowls are the best and none of them look that good.

I'm alright with finding any reason to deny Penn State a chance in the CFP.

I would prefer it if the CFP simply said, "Your school let a serial pedophile run rampant on your property. You never truly expressed remorse. You honored the guy who covered it up. You don't get the benefit of a doubt."
