COMICS! |OT| January 2015. So many variants you'd swear it's 1995 instead.

At least it gave us a cool Galactus redesign.

I have it still wrapped lying around in the shelf, the only reason Ive bought it because I was curious if Galactus will end up stranded in the Ultimate Universe.

I'm not alone in thinking that All New GR's art is fucking gorgeous right? :(

Luther Strode

thats awesome

edit: I was trying to think of what the new design reminded me of, I kept thinking the evangelion robots, but its actually the hollow mask from Bleach

this has to be intentional right? not as in a rip off, more like homage / hes a fan

Making an effort to read through some of my backlog and decided to finally try and catch up on New 52 Batman. In the middle of volume 2 right now (yes Cheska I'm finally reading it) and it's okay. I like the way Capullo draws Batman but I'm not all that into Snyder's writing. Still, I'm gonna stick with it since I want to read Zero Year because of all the praise it gets.

Once I'm done I kinda want to check out Batman & Robin since I think that'll be more up my alley. I don't know if I'll get around to that anytime soon though.

Skip Death of athe Family, go to Zero Year then. Scott hyped himself up too much for that one and misfired.

Axis turned out to just be a little kid playing with toys and Remender using that and some unused Fear Agent scripts. That or it was just tuning the Marvel U for Tom Taylor so he can play his one note with Iron Man. Loved the red and blue motif used throughout though.

Snyder has said in a few interviews that before Zero Year, he was writing someone else's Batman. Zero Year is Scott Snyders Batman. I would always tell people to start with that and then go back and read the older stories. Doing that, you can better project the true Snyder Batman into the old stories.

It's like knowing the history of something before experiencing the present. Gives you a better appreciation of things.

Somewhat related note, does anyone have the best comic panels/covers and funniest comic panels threads bookmarked?

I really wish that I liked All-New Ghost Rider even a fraction as much as I like the art in it. It looks great, but I can't stand any of the characters and reading it makes my eyes glaze over whenever Ghost Rider isn't on-panel, being radical. Dropped it at #7 when the artist changed and haven't looked back.

On the note of disappointing Marvel books, I finally finished the rest of Axis, and was really bummed about pretty much the whole second half. Apocalypse is lame, and the majority of X-Men are still dorks, and I can't stand reading the inverted heroes- so the idea of Superior Iron Man sticking around is really going to irritate me. Deadpool was fantastic though, as Remender's Pool always is, and everything about Carnage-Man pretty much made the event for me. I just wish the second half was as interesting as the Red Onslaught parts were.

So instead, I added All New Doop (which you guys havent mentioned so its probably shit but oh well)

All New Doop is like.... two thirds of a good comic? Lafuente: brilliant ofc, and Milligan trying his hand at the no-prize version of the Eisners in explaining all the stuff he was confused about when Axel handed him the Battle of the Atom hardcover produces some genuinely funny bits. On the other hand as someone who doesn't give a shit about current X-continuity outside of Uncanny Avengers I would've been far preferred it as a standalone mini.

I feel like, it's a celebration of the absurd. Doop is goddamn stupid. It's a floating green potato talking in bubbles. And yet we fucking love him and all the silly shit he gets up to, and that says a lot about how we enjoy comics. I feel like it would've lost a lot of its potency if it didn't use the recent and thoroughly preposterous events of Battle of the Atom as a backdrop. It's enlightening the other. Doop is great because X-Men comics are great because they're just completely bonkers from top to bottom.

It's not what you'd expect because they're all saddled with the post AvX changes to their powers until they decide to do away with it in an incredibly unsatisfying way.

Read Magneto for the realest Magneto.

Lashley

Why does he wear the mask!?

Honestly, the art hurts my eyes in the action scenes. Hard as hell to see/tell what is going on.

I do enjoy the story though, I know it got mixed reviews but I like it.

EDIT: Sorry, double post.

Both Catwoman and Grayson are probably good enough to not drop but were dropped. :/ There's a little something in each book that keeps me from being hooked. With Catwoman it's the general feeling of "who? " i get from not knowing or caring about the crime families and having not read Batman Eternal.

Was it your inability to like good comics? Those are some of the best books DC is putting out right now. If you don't like those, you might as well drop all of your DC comics.

...................

how did you know...

Still buying Multiversity which i like a lot and Batman just to see Snyder's run die to confirm it's over, but dropped all the other dc titles i was buying, Grayson was the last to go. My problem with Grayson is Spyral, seems like their integration is based on needing somewhere else for Dick to be.

Riot at Xaviers?

Quite possibly my favorite X-Men arc

Love it when Quentin starts shouting

Seize the school! Try the humans for their crimes!

and then Emma Frost comes in and yells

Oh for heaven's sake! Seize the school and then what? And then what?

Morrison just gets it

Grayson is so well-written, though. If I dropped every book with some minor plot flaws, I wouldn't be reading very many comics.

Down to 15 monthlies again. I was reading 45 for a bit but i was overwhelmed and didn't like a lot of books, probably what made me get in the "cut everything" mode until it balanced out again and i was mostly reading things i liked.

I did try Gotham Academy for two issues, I was very hopeful for the book because it seemed like fun but i found the main character to be a little " they don't know what i've done" and the plot seemed dull. Maps had some good lines though.

Jesus Riot at Xavier's was so fucking good, that might be one of my favorite X-Men arcs ever. And lol at Jean catching Scott and Emma at the end

"Let me guess, you can explain"

It was also by far Quietly's best work on new x-men yet, it's just the faces man, they still look weird, the rest of his art is great

Murder in the Mansion was a strange little arc, felt very different. They really let Morrison go wild with his run didn't they. I really chose the wrong time to stop reading comics back then, I'm loving this New X-Men stuff. And the next arc is ddrawn by Bachalo, I love that guy!

Also Morrison's run is much longer than I thought, it's already 29 issues long and there's still the Xorn stuff and Jean's death to cover which I assume was still Morrison. That's what, a 3 year period at least he was on the book?

As much as I love New X-Men (and I do love it) it's incredibly uneven. I'd say that Murder in the Mansion, including the Jean/Emma catfight issue, are the low point of the series in regards to both writing and art. Luckily the Bachalo arc is one of the best, so enjoy!

So I my chance to buy the WatXM Omnibus passed but I did buy

Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus vol 1
Ultimate Spider-Man Ultimate Collection vol 4
Ultimate Spider-Man vol 11-14, 16-20, 22
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man vol 4
Dr Strange Season One
Daredevil OHC by Waid, Rivera and Martin vol 1

For all of $135

Basically completed my USM collection and double dipped on DD since I have the tpbs of vol 1 and 2 but I have the second OHC (vol 3 and 4). I didnt want the second OHC to feel lonely so I got the second OHC....

Otherwise this purchase was quite rational!
