COMICS! |OT| January 2015. So many variants you'd swear it's 1995 instead.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Agreed strongly on both accounts. I can't believe I'm so disappointed in Squirrel Girl- I've been hoping she'd get an ongoing for years now.

You know of course whats going to happen, fellow taste-champion?

HEADLINES:
"Confirmed For 100 Issues Squirrel Girl Celebration!" Comic world rolls in squalor and shit, squealing. More festivities to follow.
"Got to tell two-thirds of my Ant-Man story arc, so I feel blessed and honoured to bow out after 14 issues." Authors glum emotionless face takes toll after second time telling the same lie.
"AND THEN SHOW SIX PAGES OF THE TIME BULLET RIPPING THROUGH HIS SPIDER-GRUNDLE FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES, GET US WEEKLY TO PRINT ANOTHER FLUFFER" Shocking Dan Slott internal memos leak.

Like I said, print is the cheapest way to go. Sorry digital buyers, but first, I get 15% off every comic I buy, and then, the comic shop will buy them back for $1-2 dollars. He then sells them again for cover price. I have sold many variants that I bought, for $25-100 back to the shop. The thought of digital is sometimes appealing because I wouldn't have to drive to the shop but buying print is the most cost effective for me.

Except not everyone has a shop like yours. For me it is cheaper to buy digitally. Significantly cheaper.

I get my books for like $2 instead of the $3 cover price or $3 instead of 4. And that's for the actual physical copy that I can do whatever I want with. I literally pay less for a physical copy that I can resell and recoup the cost of it if I so desire.

Where you at, digital?

There you go, there is no black and white answer to this issue then. Back to the gray we go.

Also I do both lol. I still buy Saga, Batman, Harley, Batgirl physically and digitally.

I also find that I like how comics look on an iPad more than I do when reading floppies. It is perfectly lit and colours pop. But that is personal choice.

5.50 for ant man today...:/

Pretty cool system. I like my shop bc I get 20%, plus it's right around the corner from my house so the trip is no big deal for me

>shrug<

Guess we'll see.

I feel like people said the exact same thing at "$3+".

Probably in these exact threads.

I didn't start buying comics until $2.99 was the standard. I find $3.99 to be pushing it. I fucking laugh at the notion of $4.99 for a monthly. That's just overpriced bullshit. I'm constantly amazed at how hard Marvel has it's readers by the balls and how much they are willing to put up with and am appreciative that DC's books have mostly avoided the rampant price increases.

Also, my $3.99 DC books have nice, glossy covers and the paper quality is very good. When I was getting a few Marvel titles, the covers and paper quality for a $3.99 book was very substandard.

Lol I always figured that Messi's shop greets all customers with a punch in the balls. It sounds awful.

And that is if they like you.

quick and dirty search for pre-schism uncanny shows Uncanny #515 as maybe a good jumping on point to see more of the namor/mags/juggerlossus team? Seems ot be the start of a arc called Nation X

the fact that its written by matt "hawkguy" fraction doesnt hurt either

:lol, it's a tragedy, but there's at least no way that Ant-Man gets Superior Foes'd with the movie still coming out. Marvel's going to want to keep an Ant-Man book out there for as long as possible. I mean, they've been willing to eat the sales on Captain Marvel, no way Ant-Man does that poorly, even at the inflated price tag.

Ant-Man was fucking awesome. After Superior Foes, I feel like Spencer has found his groove and it is glorious. I love how self-aware he made Lang (and everyone else for that matter) and I feel like the book's gonna have a good future. The stuff with Scott hanging out with Cassie was really charming and I hope to see more of it in future issues. This was a great first issue and I'm kinda sad it ended so soon.
At least I got to see my girl Janice

Best New Marvel book since Superior Foes. No, I haven't read Squirrel Girl yet, but I'm still right. Give it a shot whether you're buying it physically, digitally (yes this includes $2 codes off ebay), or on MU. It's good stuff and deserves your time.

I dunno what thread we're talking about but I'd watch a moe anime about Ant-Man

Fraction's X-Men run is mostly uh, not good? I mean its free and you can read it, but there are only select issues that I recommend.

The big one is Uncanny X-Men #512, in which Beast, Psylocke, Angel, and the rest of the X-CLUB SCIENCE TEAM go back in time to the birth of the mutant DNA strand in hope to restart the mutant population. Its the kind of comic you were hoping the guy from Casanova and Five Fists of Science was gonna write when he came on board the franchise. Novel framework, steampunk robots(the very first sentinel!), a dense read packed with ideas, kick ass female characters, etc. And its got great art from Yanick Paquette, in a rare respite from Greg Land issues.

I wonder what sort of cosmic diety's cornflaes I once pissed on for stuff like S.W.O.R.D. to be canceled after 5 issues? its so fucking good :(

Man, these guys were so much fun. Whatever happened to them anyway? Doctor Nemesis got some edgy new costume and joined X-Force for a while right?

who the fuck is that guy anyway, been meaning to ask? he's in the Uncanny reboot a lot (post schism)

sounds good, changing from 515 to 512 then. And good is relative to my aproach to X stuff. Im a big X-en fanboy, always have been, always will be. I eat that shit up like theres no tomorow, I really dont care. I mean, Ill notice if tis good or not (for example when I tried recently to read that non-90s claremont stuff, yeesh(, but I probably wont care. Also im reading all these things that are all coming together and forming a puzzle of what modern X-Men are, and it makes me want to read more. Not A LOT more, but like I said, would like to see the genesis of namor and mags on the team for example

The Newbies:

Squirrel Girl #1: Unrepentant try hard shit. Faces are a huge nightmare, and the whole thing is like one never-ending cutaway from the terrible Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. The pitfalls of a writer coming from an "oh so randuhm" cartoon adaption I guess.

That's kind of inaccurate as far as Ryan North's bona fides go

He's a man of SCIENCE and the best goddamn nazi-hunter in the Marvel Universe. Because he used to beat the shit out of Nazis in World War 2, and then when the war was over, he built a life-extending serum and robot eyes and spent 60 years continuing to beat the shit out of them, and sometimes dolphins that had been corrupted by the Nazi regime. He's got the same mutant genius thing that Forge does, and was asked to join Utopia as their scienceman.

God damn Ody-C is fantastic. Fraction's writing, Ward's art, this book is top notch in every conceivable way. Y'all need to be reading this book.

When people say "I can do whatever I want with it", I'm thinking "Like what? Make a hat out of it like Homer Simpson did to the map in Boy Scouts 'N The Hood?"

Do people who still buy DVDs and CDs use them for clay pigeon shooting when the pigeons are too expensive? Throwing stars against zombies like in Shaun of the Dead (vinyl's probably still better for that)?

I'm nearly 30 years old. I have boxes and boxes of stuff that's sitting in my spare room taking up space and I'm never going to be able to get rid of them. My one bookshelf is crammed to bursting point. It loses its' appeal after awhile. Convenience trumps everything for me right now.

And I don't go to the movies, because for me, it IS too expensive. Since they got rid of Bargain Wednesday I'd only bother for Age of Ultron, Ant-Man and maybe Star Wars this year. I might have to go to Fifty Shades of Grey because I supposedly owe my hipster friend a favour for forcing him to sit through Guardians of the Galaxy (fuck you, it's my birthday, I'm picking the movie!) and I'm dreading it. I skipped Hobbit because my cinema was charging €17 for HFR. Same reason I cut the cord, because Sky wanted €51 a month for the basic package plus HD (it doesn't come as standard here), plus a €100 installation fee. The local free-to-air satellite place quoted me a €450 installation fee.

There should really be an X-Men Science Team reading list for everyone who wants their dose of Dr. Nemesis. I want to say that whole concept started around Uncanny #500 or so? Covers most of Fraction and Gillen's Uncanny runs (not necessarily a plus).

Also see Second Coming: Blind Science and the X-Club mini. I completely forgot that Spurrier was writing Nemesis long before the current X-Force run.

Can some GAF dev nerd make a VR comic reader please so I don't have to hold heavy tablet screen shit or go anywhere to pick up floppys. Make it like the Oculus Moon Cinema where I can be reading my comic on defeated Galactus' buttcheeks, Doom throne room (seeing my Doom armoured gauntlets thumbing the pages) or anywhere.

Amazing Spider-man #12

The good:

CHANGE LEOPARDON! . Japanese sentai Spider-Man and his giant Robot.

Miles, Ultimate cartoon Spider-Man, driving up a building in the spider buggy. While Cowboy Spider-Man rides his horse up the same building next them, while their being chased by the police. The most absurd and fun comic page I've read in years. And Miles lines put it over the top.

The bad:
The Spiders continues to job to the inheritors.

Spider people still getting killed left and right.

Supaidaman not having enough action and Leopardon getting taken out so quickly.

Penni Parker and sp/ider not getting enough action.

Wolverine and Quentin go to a space casino to count cards and get money for the school

I fucking love this series

edit: meanwhile the kids use pym particle suits to go inside Kitty and kill a bunch of mini brood. Comic books ladies and gentlemen

Yup. Every time I dust my bookshelf I'm like "God damn this, never again."

It's just. Not. Worth it.
