It was obvious he had grown to care for her throughout the movie. So I'm going to have to fundamentally disagree that is was "just hooking up".
Care - sure. But what I remember from that scene was two pepole _passionately_ kissing after one of them leveled half a city. What's more, from my observations people who care for each other don't start kissing at a moment like that - they hug.
And Supes clearly wasn't traumatised/shocked at this point.
Why do you mean? Pa Kent
gave up his life so that the truth about Clark wouldn't be revealed, something he feared would lead to bad things happening, as people were unready or unwilling to accept the presence of a Godlike being walking in their midst.
It's about the message that it sends. Clark Kent becomes Superman because of his upbringing - because Pa and Ma Kent gave him a good example and moral code, he grows into a fine man who decides he's gonna use his powers for good. That's my Superman and I think that's the core appeal of the character.
In this movie we have a weak-ass Papa Kent who keeps telling young Clark to be a nobody.
Also
having his dad die this way means he won't be able to die of a heart attack/cancer later
I fully agree with this. People keep talking about how Superman wouldn't let this or that happen and such, but it's his first fucking day on the job. How good were you on the first day you did something.
Except Man of Steel wasn't a documentary, it was fiction. And it's not like he's bad at his job, he's not doing it at all. he doesn't even try to save anyone and saving people is what defines Superman. At least for me, Superman is not about super strength, invulnerability or heat vision, but rather using your powers (whatever they are) to help others. Not because you messed up and a cosmic maniac is going to kill everyone for that or someone made you do it, but because it's the right thing to do.

That CBR interview where Gillen speaks about his and Aaron's Star Wars books interacting in the same way their X-Books did made me hella excited because man, that was pretty much the best era of X-Men comics in recent memory.

Bit of a shame I don't give a fuck about Star Wars but hey, maybe I'll learn to?

As someone who always wanted to get into the EU but was too overwhelmed, I'm welcoming a chance to get into all of it on the ground floor.

Went to Barnes & Noble yesterday, found a few things, but this is the only one I picked up. It was marginally cheaper on Amazon and I wanted to read it right away. Everything else I saw I quickly ordered on Amazon. So far the adaptations are fantastic. Having both volumes is a real treat.

One of the books I saw was this book called "Super Graphic: A Visual Guide to the Comic Book Universe". It looked really cool. Anyone have this? Was it worth the purchase?

I can't even think about barnes & noble right now. I just spent almost $200 on Criterion movies.

That's really awesome, you'll need to do a write-up on it when you're all done, I love stuff like this. Have you read Ian Culbard's lovecraft graphic novels ? I adore those, highly recommended!

Wow, btw, everyone seems to hate Man Of Steel? I really like that movie. I own precisely 0 superman comics though, so I can't really come at it from whether or not it does the comic *right* or not. Certainly got me more interested in Supes than I've been before though. I'll probably buy that Snyder book when it's released in trade.

Trust me, I know; it took a lot of willpower to avoid purchasing them and having them right then and there. I had League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Omnibus, From Hell, Black Science Vol. 1 [Already have all issues included in that] and Dark Knight Returns. But I opted to just save like 10 bucks on each. The markup is just crazy. I didn't want to leave empty-handed though! They're also doing a Buy 2 get the 3rd free on DC stuff, FYI. Ends soon, most likely an SDCC promo.

I'm still going through everything I've purchased in the past, creating an inventory that I can view when I'm out and about, but I'm pretty sure I picked up his ATMM adaptation. If I am remembering incorrectly, my intention is to get all the stuff he's done as well. I've heard great things about it.

I'll do a more extensive write up on this later; I may go back and read Vol. 1 again and add that. But they're all really great adaptations with a variety of art styles. Well worth the pick-up.

Just read Batman Year One for the first time. Been sitting on my shelf forever but:

A. I have seen the movie.
B. I wanted to wait until Zero Year was over.

After experiencing both, I can safely say that Zero Year is the definite origin of the Batman. I say this because, Snyder incorporated a lot of what Miller did but added more substance to every character involved. Bruce, Batman, Alfred, and Gordon have so much more to offer in Zero Year mostly because it was so much longer. Having said that, that does not take anything away from Millers book as it was fantastic. I can imagine it was relevant to the mid 80's. The artwork is phenomenal. I think Miller really captured the corruption of the GCPD in a more dramatic way than Snyder did. But I think Miller meant to really hone in on that aspect of the story. Hell, that was the meat of Millers story. Like I said, probably relevant for the time.

Knocked out 2 books in my backlog so far today. Might try to make it 3.

but I am taking tiny steps forward
Doom Patrol Omnibus on Tuesday. Who needs money?

I know I sure don't! I'm so excited. The funny thing is that I'm probably even more excited for the Hellboy Library Edition I'm going to order with the Doom Patrol omnibus.

They're also doing a Buy 2 get the 3rd free on DC stuff, FYI. Ends soon, most likely an SDCC promo.

Today's the last day of the promo. It also includes Vertigo books, to anyone who didn't infer that.
I really ought to buy all the Snyder Batman TPBs and all the Tomasi B&R TPBs since it'd come out so cheap, but I already have so many books to read and I'm buying the Doom Patrol omnibus on Tuesday and I can't bring myself to do the order.

This Infographic Books looks great, I think i will put this on my wishlist for my birthday next month.

Can you post some pages of this Lovecraft Graphic Novel? I saw it a few times, but I would rather have a quick look inside, before I buy it, because its quite expensive here in Germany.

I can't wait to read Zero Year in that case as I love Year One, and I agree with your takes on Batman.

Glorious like news footage of 9/11 was glorious. The fights in that movie were unconscionable. I never knew what a grotesque difference dust and rubble makes but if you compare that movie to The Avengers, it's clear that it should never be in a superhero movie, ESPECIALLY not if you're going to have your leads make out in front of it.

I liked the flashback stuff a LOT, but man, the rest of that movie should not exist. Not ever.

Whether you like your super powered city wrecking brawls sugar coated or not, it doesn't make it any less impressive.

Hahahaha. I hadn't noticed that. I was too busy feeling sorry that Spiderwoman had to have her right leg amputated.

Not to mention one of Spiderwoman's boobs are gigantic, while the other one is much smaller and pressed up against the big one. Someone go do some research on porn stars and figure out what one he traced.

Hey GAF. So I have been out of the loop since the month of April. I was fatigued by the whole superhero genre and so I just stopped reading in May. Yesterday I was feeling bored and started reading Six Gun Gorilla since it was on my list, and holy shit it was awesome.

Now I want to get back in but I have a huge backlog of 3 months. Also I won't be able to spend the same amount of time as I used to. So please help me cut back my pulllist. I only want to read good quality comics and want to read less superhero stuff.

Here were my subscriptions which I am in doubt if I should continue or not(most of them are All New Marvel Now titles):

Amazing X-Men:
The last issue I read was #6 and I heard Jason Aaron was leaving. This was the last of the X books I was reading after dropping the other ones. Should I continue it?

Avengers Undercover:
I had read till issue #2. I liked Arena but this felt like meh. Should I continue it?

Black Widow:
Read till #5. Was liking it. Should I continue it?

Justice League 3000:
Read till #5. I heard the creative team was changing. Should I continue it?

Loki: Agent of Asgard:
Read till #3. Was liking it. Should I continue it?

Moon Knight:
Read till #2. I heard the creative team was changing. Should I continue it?

Ms. Marvel:
Read till #3.

The Punisher:
Read till #4. Was liking it and had picked it up since I hadn't read any Punisher title before.

Secret Avengers:
Read till #2. Any good? It seemed like it was trying to copy Hawkguy.

She-Hulk:
Read till #3. Was liking it. Any good?

Original Sin: Is it good? Should I read it?

Yea it looked fantastic in person; I'm not sure how accurate/in-depth the info is but for someone that is heavily in design, it is a real treat.

Let me scan a few pages so you can get an idea of the variety of art in the Lovecraft books. Personally, Vol. 2 has the superior art for my tastes, though most would say Vol. 1 has all the top stories (Dunwich Horror, Shadow Over Innsmouth, Call of Cthulhu, etc...) Give me a bit to do these books justice via scanning.

Lol if arrow didn't already wanted to be batman show. They just implied that ra's al ghoul exists.
I think they just confirmed he's going to appear in the 3rd season. Talia, his daughter, appeared on the show a couple of tmes and mentioned him by name, so we've known that he exists for quite a long time ;)

From that same article:

CBR said:
Also by Soule: "Inhuman" #3, out Aug. 13. Lowe addressed the book's delay, saying, "We wanted to make sure that Joe Madureira could take his time and do his best work on the book." Slott praised the work of new "Inhuman" artist Ryan Stegman (who Slott worked with on "Superior Spider-Man").
