I've had a lotta fun with Superman so far (easily DC's best ongoing by a country mile) but this last issue was a bore until the punching bits towards the end.

Anyone ever read "Blankets" by Craig Thompson? I'm curious how good it is, I've heard a lot of things about it.

I just got it for 25 fucking cents at a thrift store a couple weeks ago.

I really enjoyed it, tho it kinda bummed me out as I'm currently in a LDR.

Punisher MAX is turning out to be consistently incredible. Only 2 arcs left and there's not a single weak one. Definitely not fit for binge-reading though, because the stories hit like a brick. I usually read one arc, then let it sink in for a while. Outside of maybe Barracuda, which is lighter in tone than the other volumes, this is some intense, dark and bleak stuff. It's impressive how Ennis completely nails this more serious style after the pulp comedy in WBF (and the later Marvel Knights run I suppose, still hunting).

My ranking so far:

1. The Slavers
2. Mother Russia
3. Man of Stone (this story is depressing as fuck. After a re-read this could be n°1, there's a lot to digest in this arc)
4. Up is down and black is white
5. In the Beginning
6. Widowmaker
7. Barracuda
8. Kitchen Irish

I have the From First to Last trade ordered. Born is probably essential but again hard to track down for non-insane prices. Have to say though that I'd still put WBF above anything MAX, that story was just perfect.

My personal favorite comic run ever. Ennis knows Castle better then anyone.

Greatest crime comic run in history.

I read the entire run in one day once.

I felt like collapsing into a black hole of darkness and misery. But man, what a ride.

Check out Aaron's PunisherMAX as well after. Also good, bit different though..

The main thing I remember from Ennis' Punisher is;

Nick Fury + 5 Star Generals + The belt.

Probably one of the best moments in comics ever.

I still haven't read my copy of blankets. I've had it for 3 years or so...
You're doing yourself a disservice, man. Blankets was one of the major contributing factors to me getting heavy into comics. It's a really beautiful book, and it's easily one of the first recs I give to people who haven't read many comics or graphic novels.

Has anyone read Intersect? My little sister is interested in it and I promised I would ask ComicGAF about it.
I can't say that I remember it being discussed here. It kinda looks to have been lost in image hype for other books. I haven't read it myself but looking over previews it reminds me of David Mack's Kabuki.

Slug, I probably would have read it earlier but I have a slight aversion to indie semi autobiographical comics after reading too much Chris Ware and Seth

Any story about slavery/sex traficking depresses the shit out of me because I know this stuff is going on in real life. Even a movie like Taken gets to me even though it's not exactly presented as a heartbleeding drama.

Make sure to get Punisher War Zone if you read WBF, its the sequel Ennis/Dillon did

Yeah I know about that story, you just don't see it recommended that much... Added it to the basket.

Also do not skip Fury: My War Gone By. It is every bit as good as the best Punisher Max arcs.

After that, remember to pick up the Barracuda spin-off issues. Not as great as Frank and Nick, but still very good.

God Hates Astronauts.

While this is, without a doubt, a tour de force when it comes to imagination and art... Ive no idea if it is good.

Its so... Random.

I mean, i know the writer is on drugs, but... What the hell.

Every time I see Punisher War Zone mentioned, I get so confused as to why I haven't purchased it yet since Ennis' Marvel Knights Punisher run is one of my all-time favorite runs. I really need to fix that very soon.

Also, have you (or anyone else) read the Ennis/Quesada Punisher story that's in Marvel Knights Double Shot #1?
It's a really fun and unique story.

Fucking dammit.

also, I noticed recently, in the Batbooks, there's an incredible amount of scenes of people, usually Bats, spitting into opponents' faces. Not going thriugh my floppies right now, but it's definitely.ubiquitous in the batbooks.

This is why Frank Miller is one of the best writers of all time. He doesn't have any quirks or tics like that.
