Read through the second Hellboy Library Edition last night. That was a lot of fun, a great mix of short stories that managed to have some fun and yet also do some serious stuff as well!

I only have the first three Hellboy TPBs. The third one, The Chained Coffin and Others, is my favorite because those short stories are so good. I especially love "The Corpse."

I was so happy when I looked at the table of contents for the second Hellboy Library Edition. My attention span is woeful, so I love short stories since they allow me to get the full story in one sitting. It was very nice to see that most of the stories were 30 pages or less.
Not to say that I didn't absolutely love the longer stories in the first Library Edition.
But anyways, I probably won't get to actually reading Hellboy until after I finish Alias after I finish Preacher.

Oh no...
The first volume of Ennis' Hitman is now out of stock on IST and Amazon...

It better just be temporarily out of stock.

Just bought and read issue 5 and 6 of JL3000 here at work on my phone, slow day. I don't know why I dropped it to be honest. I think the reveal of how they came to be didn't click with me at the time. Just bought 7 and plan on going to 11.

Has anyone read Milligan's Human Target? Somehow I didn't know of it. It's collected in two very reasonably priced TPBs.

Also, why on earth have I not bought that Best of Milligan & McCarthy hardcover yet... I've been wanting that really badly for such a long time but it keeps getting barely bumped off of my IST orders.
Yup. Pretty decent stuff by Milligan.

So I went to Barnes and Noble today. I took a look at their comics selection and noticed a few things:

1. The Court of Owls Unwrapped book that shows Capullo's pencils is pretty gorgeous. Flipped through that and it was really incredible to see.

2. The Annotated Sandman hardcovers are HUGE. They're Absolute-sized AND they're practically square dimensions, so they're super long as well. It's a shame they're in black and white, or else I'd totally get those over the TPBs when I get around to buying Sandman. The price of the four annotated versions and the slipcased TPBs edition are almost identical.

3. Did not realize that Art of Frank Quitely book was Absolute-sized as well. Makes me a little bit tempted to pick it up...

Did you buy anything?

2. Those things are too big for their own good IMO. They're much larger than most books and would stick out on bookshelves too far for my tastes.

3. Don't. There isn't that much art of the kind you're thinking of. There are some pin-ups and things but most of it is random page reprints and portions of books he worked on. It all feels pretty disjointed, and is nowhere near as good as Cover Run: The DC Comics Art of Adam Hughes.

Nah. I knew that they didn't price match from their online catalog, but I didn't realize they didn't have any discounts on the comics in the store. Everything I saw was MSRP.
I'm one click away from ordering the first three Hellblazer TPBs for $30 though. I've been meaning to read Hellblazer for a while now and the hype from the new TV show tipped me over the edge a little, but I'm still not 100% convinced I want to place the order since I already have a lot to read and I was planning to not buy anything else for like a month...

I really hope I land that job I interviewed for so that I can be completely frivolous with my money.

Yeah, I kinda figured that might be the case. 12x12 inches is pretty nuts. And I have extra deep shelves, but for people with normal shelves that would be reeeally annoying.

And yeah, good call. That's what turned me off it in the first place. I really wish they would've just done a full book of sketches and pin-ups and all that good stuff. Before I saw absolutely no point in reprinting single issues since the Quitely fan would likely have that stuff already, but now that I know it's Absolute-sized, I see that there's at least a small point to the book. Not enough to get me to buy it though.

If Richie does end up returning at some point (I guess it's more of when, given the whole "nobody really dies in comics" thing), you guys think they'll just name Richie Nova Prime to prevent confusion with Sam, or rename Sam Kid Nova?

Ah! Mine were all three of the Flash omnibuses by Geoff Johns. Two of my other orders went through though, but they weren't DC titles. I wonder if there's a shortage of them or something.

That's a good order, you've got some great reading ahead of you!

I ordered the two Batman Lil Gotham tpb's and the first She Hulk (I've been reading it on Unlimited and really love the writing and especially Pulido's art).

You're in for an amazing read. Johns flash run is one of the best

IF they actually fulfill it :( The last thing that was delayed via B&N, they ended up canceling after a month.

I kinda hate ordering from B&N's website. They tend to make multiple authorizations on your card for the same amount before the charge clears. Sure you're not being overcharged in the long run, but having an amount frozen multiple times is rage-inducing.

Yeah, it's not always ideal, but with the current B2G1 and my coupons it was hard to resist.

I have this issue where when I go to B&N, I look at the comics and see the prices and I automatically think "Wow, this would be cheaper on IST or Amazon."

I honestly just like their Manga and toy/hobby section. They've carved themselves out a little niche in that department and it's really awesome.

Aside from the manga (which I have no interest in), I concur.

Edit: Get in the IRC chat, guys! It's dead in there.

Finally clicked the "Place Order" button and ordered the first three Hellblazer trades on B&N. I'm really looking forward to it.
I've been craving something dark (I was thinking Moench/Jones Batman before, but this scratches that itch better), so this should be good. Plus I'll finally be able to start reading Hellblazer which means I'm closer to reading the Ennis run on Hellblazer. Haha

Let's end all the horse play here!

these are dangerous waters!

What an enormous tease. :p

Dark Horse actually thinking that their IP was more valuable than the big 3 was always hilarious. I would assume that losing Star Wars was a humbling experience.

Still going through the Ultimate universe.

Dropped Ultimate X-Men for now, just wasn't feeling it anymore, now I'm starting Ultimate F4 which seems a lot better, they seem way more interesting than their 616 counterparts.

Except Doom , wtf did they do to him?

When can we expect your announcement?

Being serious not about that...

totally unrelated to that.

I know nothing of that and if did would not disclose.

EDIT: I have to get approval from overlords before I can say anything and still really early stages but COMICGAF will be happy.

We'll see about that.

Sorry for not being on IRC today. I was planning on using today to watch anime but that didn't really happen (ended up napping and playing games instead).

As for comics, I read a little bit of Darkstalkers Volume 1. It was... okay I guess. Kind of weak honestly. Still early on so I'm hoping it gets better but so far it's not really doing much for me.

Wait, what's going on with ComicsGAF?

We're pretty much all on the IRC chat now, since it's a bit dead in here.

We're all on IRC now if you want to join!

And that's a bummer that Darkstalkers was weak.
Because of you I've been playing more and more of Darkstalkers 3: Vampire Savior though. So fun.

Just finished Ravine vol.2, man that was good. Sejic spent a lot of time in the first volume on world building, so he gets right into the story this time around instead of exposition flying everywhere. There's still enough to remember to warrant the glossary and dramatis personae in the back of the volume, though. But the focus in this book is purely on pushing forward with the story. It's a very enjoyable world Sejic has created if you at all enjoy fantasy.

I've seen little, if any, talk of Mind the Gap around these parts, but I wanted to chime in and say I'm halfway through the second collection and very much invested in the story so far. It is such a mind fuck (no pun intended), and literally ends with every issues leaving you guessing as the who is behind these events. Art and covers are pretty awesome too, look at this Skottie Young variant :O
