Control |OT| The power of the gun 'n' the palm of your hand

Since I somehow didn't get Control shipped out to me via GameFly despite having no games out and it being the only game on my list and is now at low availability, im now going to purchase the game tomorrow as after tomorrow, im off from work for four days and want to play Control before Gears 5 hits.

Local GameStops barely got any copies in

I was the only dude grabbing my preorder copy last night. Total copies they got in? Four

Word of mouth will hopefully carry sales. This game has cult hit written all over it.

Read some performance articles though, 'massive' framedrops are not on all consoles, XB1X they rarely drop to 28, still not great but dont get sucked in to the catastrophising
This is rubbish right there. I play on X1X and the frames dropped so hard the game started to stutter. Also it didn't happen just once but more than that especially in a heavy fight with many enemies on the screen

Can't confirm. Xbox One X twice here. One with external hard drive which is a slice faster than the internal. Heavy frame drops on both consoles with digital version. Game stutters when enetering oder leaving any kind of menu.

Stutters and frame drops get worse with more unlocked abilities and more effects during fights. Intense fights suffer under frame drops and minor stutters. After observing the behavior I assume some streaming issues. I would be supprised if any other console handles this better.

Exactly what happens to me. Would like to say happened but unfortunately it still does

The game is creepier than I thought. The voices and scenes god damn. Picture from early game but to avoid any drama I'll put it in a spoiler tag

Reading the sub-reddit it seems that quite a few people are having issues on the X with significant framerate drops.

I've just bought it for PS4 pro so will report back once I've had a chance to dig in.

I'm on the ps4 pro but not really sensitive to frame rate drops. It does seem to chug under heavy stress (usually big scenery damage).

Nothing that spoiled my enjoyment however.

Is this a game worth getting on its full price release or should I wait a couple of months so I can get a better price?

That was one hell of a painful QL to watch
I figured out you needed to trap the anomaly thing once i saw how the buttons and doors work but i understand everybody has a "dumb moment" playing video games sometimes especially when you have to do it on camera while talking about what's going on.

Yeah, game looks great.
But hearing too much about performance issues to jump in right away.
Has remedy said anything about console performance?

You know what? I'm going to make a bold claim here - this game probably won't win GOTY in any publication but this is by far and away head and houlders above TLoU. In terms of originality and creepiness of story and the moment to moment gameplay. I wasn't sold completely watching gameplay vids but I've played this all evening and it's really good, and it's fucking FUN. Walking round the house at times is evocative of The Shining and the voices and atmosphere is oozing with thickness, especially with headphones. Remedy have done well here. And to be fair review scores seem to reflect that.

Love the fucking headshot effect as well

The Last of Us is an odd fucking comparison lol

:messenger_beaming: I don't mean in like like for like comparison in gameplay. I mean more about the story being more original and gripping than 'zombie infection', and the gameplay although it's physics derivative does enough to stand alone as well. I think it's put together really well.

Depends on what platform you've got available. If you have a ps4 pro or a decent PC I'd say go for it if you're interested, if not then wait and see.

When shit's going down in this game you can see why the framerate will drop, especially on consoles. The physics engine is fantastic. Looks a lot better than I expected it to on the pro.

Yeah, I have a pro.

I'm not in any super rush honestly. I still have 2 full games to go through.

But I'm just wondering if Remedy said anything about the performance and something they can improve, or it is what it is?

I have to get through Yakuza 0, Nier Automata and Life is Strange. Then I'm getting this Control thang

This might be the most batshit twisted game Ive played since Killer7. Like I've already accepted there probably isn't any rhyme or reason to anything. It just is. And I'm so fucking fascinated by it. It's like a Sam Lake fever dream.

Just bought the game today. I appreciate that it is a straight up SP no BS game. I can support that and the reviews got my attention

Did you guys notice that the scientist dude in the videos is the same actor that voices Alan Wake?

Also that Threshold Kids tv show is some downright disturbing stuff.

I'm getting strong Alan Wake vibes with this game with the extra stuff that's loitered around. I just got the telekinetic ability so I'm not that far in the game.

I have a huge problem, I need to sleep but the game is so much fun. I wish I had taken the day off. I really hope the acquisition rumour is true now...

Based strictly on my friends list, I'm a little concerned for this game. Usually for any release there are at least 4-5 people playing a new title. This game has 1.

I've never seen any game on my friends list be only 1 person ever.

The price will be dropping extremely quickly, all signs point towards the game selling very poorly and I don't think that positive feedback from the reviews and the players will be enough to change that.

Both base consoles are really struggling with this game it seems.
Yep a few of my buddies all played the game on the base PS4's and they were all complaining heavily about how awful the performance is. At least the good news is that the game enters a state of slow-mo when the CPU starts to struggle with the physics so in theory it shouldn't lead to your character dying because of performance issues.

Marketing makes the game look boring, walk around a building and shoot people, occasionally telekenise garbage at them. No multiplayer, no player input into the character or story, no replay-ability (hey maybe sony is going to buy remedy, lol)...just none of it looks worth $79.99. As a gamepass game or ps+, sure i'd take a look.

I wanted to want the game, but I cant justify $80 for something I am not 95% sold on.
