I'm enjoying the game so far. I think the issue some are having is that it gives the impression of being more like Dead Space or even RE4, but it's a much more traditional survival horror game that requires planning and efficient use of supplies. Once you look at it that way, the game really clicks.
Played a bit more. I fucking hate inventory management so fucking much it's unreal. I just had to use the stash in a save room so I could pick up an item on a table IN THE SAVE ROOM and then move it to the stash before recovering the item I put in there. Absolutely none of that makes the game fun to play or interesting.

The game also incentivizes save scumming. Often your best course of action after a save point or autosave is to run through and see where resources are, how many enemies there are, etc., then reload your save so you can do things as efficiently as possible. There's no incentive at all to try things or explore the mechanics of the game.

There's a very good reason why survival horror games died, and it's bullshit like this.

The game was clearly influenced by old ass survival horror design of the late 90s and there's nothing wrong with that, Crow Country and Signalis doing the same thing and they're amazing. I guess it's just not for you.

It doesn't, it's just a matter of skillful and thoughtful play, strategic planning and the game autosaves at the right spots just to not waste your time. Go play Hitman Absolution, you'll be pulling your hair out more times than you can count and begging to play Cronos instead.

They're not only haven't died, they're more alive now than ever and there's more variety of them with different perspectives.

I don't care what influences the game draws on. Poor design is poor design. Inventory management should be about efficient use of limited resources, not moving things into a stash because there's a table with an item across the room I need to grab. It slows down gameplay and distracts from everything else the game does well, like atmosphere and sound design.

Another game being bad at something does not make Cronos good at something.

The most efficient way to get through a lot of areas in the game is to blaze through them real quick to assess the situation, reload your save, and then go through it as efficiently as possible. If I know, for example, that multiple enemies that appear dead will actually reanimate once flip a switch, it behooves me to reload my save, take care of them ahead of time, then proceed to flip the switch. This puts me at a tactical advantage for the entire scenario that I likely would never have been in if I hadn't leveraged the save system. While I certainly could have dealt with these enemies beforehand without going through the process of flipping the switch, seeing they reanimate, etc., this would have meant gambling resources on them actually being real enemies and not just random corpses. There's absolutely no incentive for me to do this when I can simply play the game and wait to see if they actually come back and then reload if needed.

If anyone wants an easy mode, just turn aim assistance to high. The game becomes much more easy. I have it in Medium because when I turn it off completely, is really difficult to hit enemies

nice, but you know you can adjust image size when insterting it so it doesnt take 10sec to scroll over

Started today and I'm 3h in and loving it. Did have to tweak it a lot and i'm using frame gen because of the dips.. I have a 5080 and playing at 3440x1440.

HDR was very greyed so had to use a Black Floor fix for it. Also used some mods to optimize HW RT as it was very stuttery

You can fix this in the PC with this mod, been using it and looks absolutely stunning on my G8 Odyssey Ultrawide https://www.nexusmods.com/cronosthenewdawn/mods/13
thanks, helped on my lg oled too

Want to play this.

But already juggling Helldivers 2, KCD2, DA Veilguard.

After that, October is absolutely loaded.

Not sure when I will get the chance. Hopefully I can make some time for it. Want to support a good AA effort like this. So might purchase it anyways. But I don't have SSD space.

I'm playing hell is us right now but i was curios so i tried the first 30 min, so far so good, they nailed heavy survival horror movements and the charged shots are meaty enough.
Graphic and performances are good, not perfect but good enough.

Looks absolutely stunning with game HDR and the settings they are saying + Black Floor fix.

This is the reason that I buy every UE5 game on the PC, configuration in the ini outside of the box is really bad sadly

Yeah there is some problem with HW Based RT, you gotta install some mods to reduce stutter in new zones

I disabled rt after 20 min, i don't really care much for it.

I'm on PS5 pro and for HDR all I did was put down the middle HDR brightness from 6 to 5 - now I have perfect blacks, it never looks washed out...

I'm on my NG+ run and right now, I'm standing in one of the saferooms (before the hospital) and can't move on because the soundtrack here is SO good, I can't stop listening! The music in this game is one of the many highlights for me.

....you sound like a person that would go to an indian restaurant and then complain that the food is terrible because its too spicy! Duh, thats the point!

One man´s poor design is another man´s great design.
What you call poor design is just how the genre works and people like it exactly that way!
If you cant deal with that, then Survival Horror isnt for you!

That guy is always super negative, it seems like he doesnt like anything

Sounds like you just don't enjoy survival horror games which it's not really game's fault…..that's mostly on you.

If inventory is the issue then invest on upgrading the inventory. The point is how you use limited resources to make decisions in what you want to invest.

What I do is use health pack to have room for other items because I have enough materials to make more health packs if I want to…..also unlike games like Resident Evil the crafting materials doesn't take up space in your inventory in Cronos.

Giantbomb encountered that bug on stream and actually managed to work around it. Basically, try exiting that save room and immediately turn right so that your back is facing the entry way. Then basically try backing yourself through it. Since your camera and flashlight don't face the entry way that seems to make it so that the texture fails to spawn allowing passage.

Probably not a guaranteed fix for everyone but worth trying.

Thanks Brother, appreciate it, gonna give it a try later on and hope it works !

Here's the thing though : I'll have these kind of problems in the back of my mind from now on since, apparently, they're frequent with this game and I just can't , what If it's happens again 10 hours in the game and I have to restart the whole thing ? Sure, I do have 2 other manual saves active but...this isn't right no matter how you cut it.

With Bloober being Bloober, these problems may actually never get patched judging by SH2 Re which is STILL in a shitty state on the PS5 Pro since October 2024 (last patch).

This company man, I swear...

Update : tried it and it didn't work, not only that but, upon reloading an autosave from 1 hour earlier...the fucking texture is now there which impedes me from actually ENTERING the room - I'm basically locked now and can't advance through the game, great job Bloober, great job you incompetent hacks...

I don't know if I even have the strength to restart the whole game now since the constant scanning of the environments (for materials/logs/etc) is exhausting.

This is the last time I'm getting a game on day1, fook this shit...

Patches for SH2 had to be paid by Konami, they were the publisher - I think lack of patches was on them. With this game, Blooper is the publisher so I think that means we will get more fixes.

Normally Polish games get tons of patches over the years, SH2 was some weird exception.

I sincerely hope so dear Bojji since these are - literally - game stopping bugs with the one I mentioned not being the only one...

Thing is, even after a patch, will I be able to advance or will have to restart the game anyway? I mean, what will they do, remove that bugged texture (which the game perceives as geometry) retroactively ?
Weird thing is, last night it wasn't there when I entered the room the 1st time but now, it literally "metastisized" to my Autosave which is 1 hour earlier ffs...

Anyway, I'm very dissapointed right now since I've been "in the zone" since yesterday, really like the game, It's been long since I enjoyed a game this much.

Purchase it.

It's important to support new IPs

Damn the combat is tense as fuck, Loving it. That back to back encounter in street square and tool shop. Everything is so cramped and tense. The game sounds glorious on headphones, the biomass on walls give sounds of enemies so you keep on looking in every direction.

Fantastic survival horror experience, bloober cooked it real good.

Nah, I still say this is just about the same as any of the recent RE or DS remake. Game is full of barrels for one, and some review cried about not getting enough ammo or getting stuck because running out, well I dunno my stash is already full of spare shotgun ammo as the pistol thing is perfectly fine in general so far by the time I've got to the Tram.

But the vibes of this game, damn it's so good! Really good thing too that I couldn't keep away from this was as I planned to wait for a sale..

Man the story is so interesting. I want to continue playing and understand the mystery. Very few games made feel this way.

Bravo Bloober Team
The best part of the game so far for me. The environmental storytelling is really good too. You can actually miss some narrative beats that are hidden in notes or posters on walls.

Underwater setting aside, the more I play Cronos, the more it reminds me of Frictional Game's SOMA, the way they did the world building, atmosphere, the vibe etc. Like, it's not completely identical mind you, but I just can't shake the feeling that this game was also played some part in Cronos's creation and was an inspirations as well. Man I'd love a sequel to SOMA on the UE5, the first game was a-fuckin'-mazing.

One more thing I love is that I'm playing on PC but with my DualSense and I don't know if this is done in other games or not, but the blinking led representing the 4 colors of health status is so cool.
It's like next level Dead Space health bar but in my hands.

Many PS4 & PS5 games use the lightbar for health. Yeah it's a cool feature, especially if the game has minimal hud or you want to turn it off.

Yeah, I like this little feature that some devs utilize. I've seen it for health, Ready status (Ready or Not, changes color to green from yellow once you ready up for a mission), having a wanted level (GTA, flashes red and blue), taking damage (Ready or Not, flashes red when hit), etc. Some games just change the color to be different, like with Saints Row 3 it will be purple.

Shame on some of these reviewers. I just don't understand how anyone could give this game a 5 out of 10.

Garbage journalism
Agreed, I'm almost at the end and it's been a crazy ride.

If they patch the performance and the grey HDR it's going to be a really good game that is going down this year as underrated.

Funny enough I found that this was made by the team behind The Medium which is Blobber 2nd team

Bloober did it with Silent Hill 2 remake as well.

I caved in a bought in from a GMG with 20% off.

This has to be one of the weirder survival horror games. It's like the game takes place in the Stranger Things upside down world. Even the player character feels oddly alien with an intentionally created monotone and robotic voice.
I got the first essence and so far the game hasn't been THAT difficult, it's definitely harder than Silent Hill 2, but some reviews were making this out to be some Dark Souls level challenge.

Also the performance is on par with Silent Hill 2 for me. Like it runs decently enough with DLSS, but ray tracing demolishes the frames, forcing me to use frame gen if I wanna have steady frames. Just like SH2.

There is a reason why the character speaks like that, keep playing

Looks ridiculous on the Steam Deck. Damn!

Edit: it's also Verified whereas Silent Hill 2 is Unsupported. Guess they did some optimization.

I'm digging it so far but I have to nitpick that this does not feel like a UE5 game. There's some higher geometry on round objects but the texture work on stuff like the biomass stuff looks like 2015 PS4 shit.

Why does this stuff look so mid? The game is so linear that they could be straight up slamming the VFX and they're just riding the bike with one foot. It's like a whole layer of polish is missing.

i mean in the fact that it doesn't have any difficulties and you will die a lot and you better get good
Isn't that any game, though? It's not a walking simulator but it does have pretty limited mechanics. If you like Dead Space it's pretty much in line with that.

This is the problem, even on low textures VRAM usage keeps increasing and after 30-45 mins and when it touches 7.5GB+, stutters increase a lot. Restarting the game fixes this but kinda irritating if you have 8GB VRAM, I like the game, the atmosphere and the combat (shotgun charge shot is crunchy) but I have refunded the game as I simply can't keep a stable framerate. I would have no problems if my GPU (RTX4070 Mobile) had more VRAM as it's very capable running this game but Nvidia were like "you'll have 8GB VRAM and you'll be happy"

Will definitely get it again once I upgrade my hardware, looks like I need minimum 16GB VRAM for all games 2025-2030.

Much better than DF. BenchmarKing is my defacto channel for everything optimization, he is the best out there.
