Current circumstances seems to be positioning PS5 to catch it's 2nd Wind in the next few years & become Sony's 2nd best selling console.

So. PC games and marathon? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ concord 2.0
Didn't know DS2 had a PC port announced. Also, you literally asked about it, it's not anyone's problem that you'd rather doompost in a cringeworthy forum culture way than wait and see if a game is good.

Doesn't matter to me. I'm just saying Sony has been SHIT this gen. I'll buy a PS5 Pro. Only for GTA6. But they have piss all else that isn't on PC

it's not a second wind... it's a long riding wave.

Sony finally WON the true console war. Sega-bye, Nintendo-bye, Xbox-bye. Now Playstation has consolidated itself as the King of the home console market; they finally own that market
So we're just going to pretend that Japan doesn't exist, eh?

"Fortunately for everyone, competition is still very strong across the board."

Where? PlayStation will be the to-go console for the average consumer.
once there is industry consolidation, the competition is driving by expansion.

make no mistake: Sony putting their games on PC will be a detriment to its console adoption.

something similar could happened to the king of the handhelds market: it could drive "PC Handheld" adoption up at its own expense, for example.

Well, just accept that the market disagrees with your opinion.
Just like I fully believe that GTA is shit and I'm still aware that the market disagrees with my opinion.

You fell for the bait. The truth is Sony doesn't have to release not one PS5 exclusive going forward for PS5 to continue selling well but the trolls will reach for this talking point.

You first stated that Sony isn't making any games, I proved you wrong on that before you started resorting on "b-but they're on PC!" as if 1. that somehow changes the fact that Sony is still producing those games and 2. people seriously give a shit about it. PS5 just had its best Q3 (October-December), way after the console had its peak FY. Spider-Man 2 broke record numbers as an exclusive on a PlayStation platform way after the PC push began. Sure, dislike the strategy all you want, but the fact that you need to point that out while it's completely unrelated to the topic at hand speaks a lot about you.
The funniest thing is that you felt the need to move the goalposts or suddenly make the matter about YOU right after your initial post got proved wrong and you avoided accepting that. This is why discussion here is so utterly fucked up.

Sounds like this thread wasn't for you, then.

Again. It's not exclusive to PS5. My PC plays those games. No need for a PS5.

UNTIL GTA6

You pointing out sales matters none to me. It's AVAILABLE on PC. Not interested personally. The first one was good. I've heard mixed on the 2nd Spider-Man. But it's on PC. Calm down.

Seems like you didn't even read my post out of laziness or something, which also gives me an idea of why you think I somehow lost control of myself because I wrote more than two sentences in my post, lol. That's how good discussion works.

Microsoft is a 3rd party developer. We know Sony outsells them. It's fine. lol ๐Ÿ˜‚ matters none. Good for them. Good for both. Good for us all as consumers. Glad Sony also now puts their games on PC

Nintendo on the other hand. While we know they're anti consumer and hate customers

I'll likely pick up a Switch 2 in 3-4 years once all their major games come out and such. Because I'll not be able to play those games anywhere else.

You're not wrong here and the 90 day "pause" on tariffs gives Sony some additional wiggle room to decide what steps to take in the 90 days.

If Sony didn't have a sufficient surge in production and distribution to the US, they now have an additional 90 days in order to do it. Again, at a pace of say 2.5 million units per month, they could surge an additional 7.5 million units to the United States in this time and never have to increase the price in the US even once GTA launches.

Sony's aim here should be to become the clear cut device to play 3rd party games, while utilizing games like Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, and then GTA6 to push the overall demand for PS5.

In the next 18 months, Sony has the opportunity to erase the gains Microsoft made during the PS3 era. It's not really a chance that you get often in business to be in kind of pole position.

I could easily see under the right conditions the PS5 selling 150+ million units. I'm not sure if a die shrink makes sense, it's not my area and I don't know enough about how much they could save on BOM if they do a die shrink here. I think if that was on their radar, it should have been on there for a while ago.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a PS5 Super Slim launch in November.

And is that a victory? Sony doesn't need to do the bare minimum, which is to launch exclusives to sell its console, so much so that its game production in this generation left a lot to be desired, and whoever points this out and complains is the troll?

Come on guys, I don't understand how this helps you consumers.

Switch 2 is getting ready to sell more at launch than PS5 did in almost two months.
With $80 games.

PS6 will have to release in 2028+ for PS5 to achieve the sales you are saying.

I pre-ordered Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei at 89$ CAD, still a long way to go to get to Nintendo's ridiculous 114.99$ CAD but once it catches up, I'm going PC only most likely.

Why does a game have to be exclusive for anyone to enjoy it?

This is a different time the console isn't as important as it used to be & devs / publishers will want to reach people wherever they are.

If you're not taking advantage of certain hardware features of a console it really doesn't matter if it's exclusive.

I could maybe see Sony forced to push Wolverine to 80 dollars because of the cost of the license, but at the end of the day, I don't know. I think there is going to be a huge pushback to 80 dollar titles (with the exception of GTA).

I think people think that Nintendo isn't going to run into any trouble with expensive game prices and expensive storage, something people are going to come to terms with really quickly with a lot of games being game keys.

Nintendo is testing the waters in a way that Sony tested the waters with the PS5 Pro, but the Switch 2 is their primary product. Maybe it works out for them and people won't care or maybe they won't. I certainly don't see them choosing the Switch 2 as their primary way of playing 3rd party games. So Nintendo is going to have to hope that retread games like Mario Kart can really move units to casual consumers. Mario Kart World needs to be a 10/10 and it doesn't look like a 10/10. What's interesting is I've seen games get judged based off their price for the last couple years, but I guarantee you MKW won't be reviewed based on its price at all.

PS6 will have to release in 2028+ for PS5 to achieve the sales you are saying.

I don't think anyone is betting on 2027 at this point. It would just be forced, especially if Microsoft isn't introducing any mass market hardware. Sony has every incentive to wait as long as possible, kind of similar to the Switch 2, which many people expected to be out 2 years ago.

Sony will absolutely raise the price of their games, and further stall the generation's second half.
  1. They were the first out of the game with the USD$70.00 base price.
  2. They were the first to introduce paid patches to bump resolutions and frame rates.
  3. Optics demands equality; if their games are priced under everyone else's, it could be perceived Sony thinks they're lower quality.
  4. Players have demonstrated a willingness to buy Sony's products at inflated prices.
  5. Sony has no competition to force it to keep its prices lower to compete.
  6. Shareholders always demand higher returns, which either requires more customers - which don't exist - or higher prices.
  7. Sony has demonstrated a desire to continue to push hardware pricing higher to maintain its current profit ratios.
Not only will Sony increase the costs of its games, I suspect it'll match Nintendo's prices to force user comparisons and not leave money on the table. If Mario Kart World sells for USD$90.00, and people pay it, you better fucking believe Sony will want The Last Of Us Part 1 Remake Remastered Complete Edition Redux on store shelves for USD$90.00.
  1. Take-Two was the first to do the $70 game thing, starting with NBA 2K21, over two months ahead of Sony unveiling launch game prices during their September event.
  2. Paid upgrade patches were introduced back in 2013, with $10 upgrades for cross-gen third-party releases (all XOne and PS4 first-party launch games were next-gen exclusives) such as Call of Duty Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Need for Speed Rivals and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

If you think it's going to take a few years for PS5 to catch its second wind then when do you expect PS6 to launch?
PS6 will still probably launch end of 2027, Sony this gen let last gen stay for more than half the lifecycle of PS5, it will probably happen when PS6 releases. It's taking longer an longer for devs to develop and get used to the hardware these days because of all the options consoles now have. Won't be surprised if PS5 is still getting pushed well into the PS6 lifecycle especially once it gets heavily discounted considering we are in the diminishing returns era.

I'm a huge Sony fanboy, had every console and handheld since the OG PS1 at launch. I have the PS5 Pro, and this is the first time ever that I'm considering not buying the PS6 at launch because Pro will probably take me through for at least the first couple years. I just don't see PS6 being some massive upgrade over the Pro.

I personally think PS5 will get a second wind and more people will adopt when it becomes last gen and it can be had for a cheaper price.

I think Sony is acutely aware of the diminishing returns on silicon. It's pretty inherent in their partnership with AMD, which is again why a forced 2027 launch doesn't make sense.

Sony has to work on producing a marketable improvement over the PS5 and even the Pro. On silicon alone you're probably looking at 2x the performance of the PS5 Pro, which isn't going to be enough to deliver a marketed improvement on its own.

Maybe Sony and AMD figure out an architecture that allows the PS6 to have a dedicated NPU without a rendering bottleneck. You'll also need next generation upscaling well beyond what the PS5 Pro is capable of. Deeper intergrations with Discord.

With PS5, Sony missed the boat on Zen3. PS6 is going to fall between Zen 6 and "Zen 7". Sony being in no rush here but having to deliver significant differences is much better suited to wait. Another thing you have to consider is a PS6 Pro, being much more difficult to market locked to Zen 6.

2nd best selling console with the worst game library of all generations.

Keep telling yourself this as banger after banger is released. Maybe you'll convince yourself, but good luck getting this to stick through time. This is just the rise of cynicism that ignores games like Metaphor, Expedition 33, Split Fiction, Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, Astro Bot, Baldur's Gate 3, FF7 Rebirth... GTA6...

Alternatively, no need for a PC, as PS5 has all the big games and often receives them first.

GAF is an echo chamber and highly cynical. Thinking that a poll on GAF somehow proves something is crazy.

It's like a group of teenage girls who thinks they're cooler for hating on everything current. It's not even a GAF invention.

Laptops aren't designed to hook up to your TV or wirelessly casted. Those are 2ndary peripheral feature.

Switch is designed to be docked to your TV, hence the dock it ships with.

Switch needs an accessory(packed in) to connect to a TV, a laptop is designed to be hooked up to external displays and has the port built in.

And if someone uses it that way exclusively, according to you logic, it would be a home console.

The thing people like you don't seem to understand is that there is a massive market that doesn't care about games being available on PC.

They just want a console.

I think COVID ruined Sony's plan to continue selling PS4 after the ps5.
It will be rather crazy if PS5 can't sell more than PS4 considering Xbox sales imploded and Microsoft shows little interest in selling hardware now. Nintendo does their own thing with the Switch. Right now though it is unclear if PS5 will definitely surpass PS4.
They will cross 100 million, but beating PS4 at 120 million+ is going to be a big ask, that too after the PS6 is out in 2027.

There are several things that lead to think PS5 sales will be great in the coming years, way higher than the ones PS4 had on its second half of the life cycle:
  • Xbox dying, its prices skyrocketing and main MS games being released in PS5
  • Switch sales sunseting because it's being replaced soon with an overexpensive Switch 2 that may break launch sales record but for the first year seems to have only Mario Kart as super seller IP as exclusive between its overpriced games
  • In PS5, during 2025 or 2026 Assassins Creed, Kojima, Ghost of Tsushima, Bungie, GTA, NFL will have released their first current gen only, non-crossgen game. Maybe Guerrilla, SSM, Wolverine and ND too. And will have started to get MS games like Forza Horizon, Gears or Indiana Jones
  • Due to crossgen, PS+ and GaaS there's still a record amount of PS4 players still active still waiting to upgrade, who may jump as the games mentioned above keep being relesed.
  • AAA Chinese games, Sony gaming IPs adapted to movie & tv shows and Sony PC ports seem to have brought many new players to PS5, and there are plenty of them more planned for the upcoming years
Despite having experienced important shortages issues, price rises instead of price cuts, a lot of the top selling IPs/studios still not having released its first current gen only game and Switch breaking records and having a record number of PS4 users who still didn't upgrade, PS5 is selling launch aligned almost like PS4 and breaking revenue, profit, active userbase, gamesub revenue and first party game sales records.

Once all the super seller IPs & studios -mainly GTA and CoD- move to current gen only many of these many dozens of millions of players who are still active in PS4 will migrate to PS5. So in the long run PS5 very likely will end selling considerably more than PS4 specialy due to selling way more during the second half of its life cycle.

Sony is experiencing the top grossing generation for any console maker ever, and their success will only increase in the next couple of years and beyond.

What Sony games have come in 2025? Whats coming yet? Ghost of whatever. Then what? They're busy with tv shows and other things not named making games. Least, far as I've seen anyhow.
As far as we know for 2025 they have:
  • Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate expansion (top 1 in preorders for most countries)
  • Death Stranding 2
  • Stellar Blade PC
  • Lost Soul Aside
  • Marathon
  • Ghost of Yotei
  • Convallaria
  • Destiny 2: Renegades expansion (top 1 in preorders for most countries)
  • Potentially more unannounced Sony stuff as could be Venom
  • MS releasing in PS5 games like Indiana Jones, Oblivion Remastered, Forza Horizon 5, Gears of War, Doom The Dark Ages, Outer Worlds 2, Ninja Gaiden 4, CoD...
For 2026:
  • Saros
  • Wolverine
  • GTA6
  • Potentially Horizon Online, next SSM title, Fairgame$, Firesprite's dark horror adventure
Pretty likely after 2026:
  • Intergallactic
  • Star Wars KOTOR remake
  • People Can Fly game
  • Next Media Molecule game
  • Next Team Asobi game
  • Horizon 3
  • more Sony stuff I'm forgetting right now

I see no evidence of a second wind. The later part of every generation sees some excellent titles released as developers proficiency with the hardware matures. That's just the normal cycle.

Nobody asked, but I'm calling it now: the PS5 gen ends 11 November 2028.

2/3 of Gaf is PC-centric, which will already skews the poll you're referencing.

As for the echo-chamber, there's a reason Gaf is more wrong than right on pretty much everything for the past 5 to 6 years or so.

LOL, rather than drop a random gif, why don't you try making an actual argument to the contrary... you won't because there's tremendous evidence that GAF is an echo chamber.

Just on the topic of GaaS, the vast majority of posters here don't like GaaS, myself included. That however isn't representative of the market. That's the definition of an echo chamber.

There are so many posters here who live oblivious to reality and actually relish in it. The only question I have really is whether it is on purpose or if you're actually so fargone?

I thought the consensus on here (one i don't agree with) is that Sony IS competing with Nintwndo and we have nothing to worry about with playstation as Nintendo will keep Sony in check?

I think the switch and ps5 have some cross pollination but the target demographic is different imo.

GAF being called an echo chamber is fucking hilarious to me. Seems like this only happens when the fangirls get upset when something doesn't go their way. Like when the green rats saying this place is too Sony friendly because of the shit MS gets for going third party, or when the Sony ponies can't handle their PS5 being labeled as the worst PlayStation console.

Some people care way too much about companies that don't give a shit about them.

Topher Topher , do you consider this place an echo chamber?
