Sony to be conservative with its multiplatform releases in order to protect the value of the PS5 console

This sounds like it's in response to this new ROG ALLY and everyone that keeps shouting "Xbox is getting Playstation games!! 🎉🎊"

Sony is about to shut that shit down.
XBOX sticker on a ROG ALLY and suddenly PlayStation PC porting.

All I ask for. Is if they moneyhat a game that they start to launch on pc day one.

If its their own title then yeah baby. Let me get some use out of my ps5 pro. I've even unplugged it from the tv now to make room for my pc.

The wording gets less committal each year. They are also walking back from gaas. Perhaps there is some course correction going on internally.

Something that has only happened in the last year or so is the complete implosion of the Xbox console platform while the switch and its successor continue to smash records. There is also the general failure of subscription services across the board. I'm sure Sony has noticed this and is probably informing them of what kind of business strategy they should follow.
About live service games, they keep committed to build a portfolio of IPs in this segment. About put their single player games in others platforms, I agree with you. Ryan and Hulst made comments in the past that suggest they would be more aggressive about porting games for PC or even other consoles, but they seems to make a step back.

Yeah. The Nintendo brand too.
As a known company name, yeah, that's why I'm telling so many times about brand. Now for the US$1 mi question: if someone wants a 'Nintendo Playstation' and discovers that this thing does not exist (it existed, we know, but that's another story), will it by a Nintendo 'something' or a Sony Playstation? Given the fact Playstation has never been so healthy, we know this answer - for the good or bad.

The thing is I don't see Sony doing the money hating for third party games as much because they don't really need to. With Xbox now going third party I see more third party doing PC and PS5 especially the Japanese ones. I see Sony investing more in there first party and second party if anything.

They are going to try and not do that as well. The whole point of moneyhatting a game is for the console. They aren't running a charity. Unfortunately for them it's harder to do that these days. The success of Stellar Blade will certainly convince some devs that it's still a good deal and shuts down the narrative that exclusives don't work anymore.

Didn't really think of this.

With Phil single handedly killing Xbox consoles, this makes sense.

not surprising.

PS ecosystem brings alot of revenue for Sony, they are not going to risk it by releasing day 1 PC port for their important exclusive games.

Unlike Microsoft, console business is still very profitable for Sony.

I always chuckled when the common sentiment was "day-and-date soon" for all PlayStation releases. While that was a possibility, it never seemed likely. This strategy was always going to be a sliding scale that's incredibly easy to adjust in either direction, even if the impact of the implementation has longer lasting effects and Sony now has a lot more data to see that impact.

I am not sure how many are actually jumping ship to PC because Sony has started releasing some titles months later. It has given ammo to old and new PC gamers to say "why own a PlayStation?" But the reality is what you pointed out. They do not bring them all, and they do not bring them day and date. There is still a significant reason to own a PlayStation console.

I don't think people are jumping ship just because Sony is releasing some titles months/years later. But PC as a platform seems increasingly appealing and popular these days, and bringing over these games certainly isn't helping to retain users on playstation. If most of their games were doing Stellar Blade numbers on PC you could argue the extra revenue is worth it, but most of their games aren't even selling that well.

I've been primarily playing on Playstation since the PS1 (except for a couple of years where I had a Xbox 360) but I'm ready to switch over to PC as soon as I can afford it. There's many reasons for me wanting to do so, but the fact most Sony games will still come to PC eventually isn't doing much to keep me on Playstation (in fact when I'm budgeting the build, I usually do so including the money I can get selling my ps5)

Well that's not stopped certain people begging them to follow Microsoft's strategy.

First they begged them to follow the day and date strategy for the subscription service, and now they are begging them to follow the PC day one strategy.

I wonder why.

I find the long winded posts from boomer console warriors desperately pleading for them to stop ports more entertaining than the games themselves personally

There was people saying a few years ago that Sony would be day 1 on all their games to PC by the end of the current gen. That's clearly not gonna happen. Consoles need exclusive games.

I think this was always a possibility while Xbox was a player ... now PC/handheld is their main competitor.. so things may have changed and may change even more in the future with FP games simply dont coming out on pc. But who knows.

I can easily imagine a future where we'll have to move the gaming battlefield from consoles to storefronts. It would to be just as fierce, but infinitely more retarded.

Steam/PCMR vs Ponies vs Rats
with smaller skirmishes between
EA vs Ubisoft vs EGS vs GOG

Bodies would pile up and minds would be lost. 😅

While Nintendo doing their own thing as usual.

I don't really consider Xbox to have been a player during the time frame Sony decided to explore this strategy though Xbox's decision to be day-and-date on PC has impact as a consumer can simply say, "well, I can get Xbox titles and PlayStation titles on PC, so what's the point of these devices?". That's certainly a popular sentiment on GAF anyway. I'd say PC has been the main competition even before their multi-platform push as well. Adjustments to their strategy seem natural with Sony's F2P push fizzling, the majority of their PC releases not setting the world on fire from a sales perspective, and data around how their platforms/subscriptions are performing. And that's not me saying that I think they'll abandon this push, but they certainly have a lot of room for improvement.

Sony exclusive has to remain exclusive or at a very least port some exclusivss to pc after a year or more, but not same launch date. This is also as respect to PS fans. Same with xbox and nintendo, they all have to have exclusives for higher quality and good selling point.
Respect to PS fans? If PS fans need this, they fucking suck. Seriously lame sentiment. I like Sony games. I bought a PS5 to play Sony games. I am a fan, but they disrespect me by making me either by their console and blow 600 bucks or wait a year to play it on my nice PC. There is no respect there and its not even clear that people like me are worth it to them. I mean yeah I will buy all their first party games that are SP, but I am not buying 3rd party or subbing, or anything else and I would buy the games on PC day one. I guess I am profitable to them but I also got my system at launch and back then maybe someone more profitable could have had my unit.

Why don't you sell it?

Saves the rest of us from having to listen to your whining how you never use it.

A somewhat old-fashioned mentality for today's times. No one cares about console exclusivity anymore, only about games, regardless of the platform. And the more platforms a company is on, the greater its chances of success.
Sony releases their games 2 years later and at full price and expects them to sell well?
Helldivers 2 should be an example of a game that was released simultaneously on day one and was a huge success. They should take inspiration from that.

That's good that means their strategy not going day and date works, as your gonna still but it anyway.

But also there are pc gamers who own ps5s who will buy playstation exclusives day and date on ps5.
Pretty much this. My PS5 only gets turned on when a exclusive drops (ex Ghost of Yotei).

If Sony ever does do day 1 releases for PC, I would have zero need for an inferior device (compared to my PC). Look up Xbox 101, they have a good overview on how to kill a console.

Stellar Blade is 2nd party. Marvel fighting is 2nd party. Nioh 3 is 2nd party. Rise of Ronin is 2nd party. I don't know if they have any 2nd party that isn't on PC from this gen. So that seems like a rule. Death Stranding 2 isn't though, yet.

1st party is hit and miss.
Yep those are not their Playstation games. They are paying in a way or another to get some exclusivity. Like they are paying fortunes to Marvels too. They are renting those (damaged) IPs.

Remove those 2nd party and rented IPs and what's left from Playstation? a few bland Ubisoft open-world games (with average gameplay), a GAAS game they luckily bought (but they don't own the developers or their next game) and scraps from the golden era.

If sony thinks i'll pay full price for games that release later on PC they're mistaken. Regardless of how much i want to play the game. I really want to play stellar blade, but 70chf for a late port? No. I would have given you that money day one, but now i wait until it's like 40chf

Yes, since their current strategy is very successful doesn't make sense to change it.

Unless they have an output like nintendo, it'll hardly make a difference
The market leader is SIE, not Nintendo

The obvious implication of this is that they KNOW that porting their games to PC harms the value of the PS5,
Nah, PS5 is performing better than their previous consoles in most metrics. Including lots of new to PS users helping them have now the biggest PS active userbase ever, part of them coming from PC.
