bish gets all the credit :)
Fuck the
Smelter Boss
I can tank him pretty reliably with my high stamina and 100 physical def shield, but once he
powers up for the second time and starts doing fire damage
my 55% fire reduction gets me torn up.

What's the Purple Flame Shield of this game? I need 100 Physical and high Fire DEF or I don't see how I can beat this guy :(

There's a
Grym Greatshield
that does 100% physical and 100% fire. It never dropped for me, so I ended up summoning an NPC and dodge-rolling.

Ran into my first wall last night...
the poison spider chick boss.
Is there a trick to this fight, because rocking all the poison resistant gear didn't seen to change all that much.

I dunno if this has been mentioned before, but I find it kind of odd that the cape physics for one of the armors have been disabled for the Ps3 version.

To those who thought this game was "easier."

Easier my ass.

This is my 3rd Souls games, and Im getting sufficiently owned.

Also have beaten the other two, but finding this considerably easier so far. Although it's my first sorcerer too. So instead of in close dodging and parrying, I just hang back and cheese everyone. ;) But I've found enough melee loot I'm tempted to respec later.

I'm not even sure I'm playing Sorcerer right, but seems to be working so far.

Man the stats in this game... I'm at level 73 or so and I feel like I have to bring all the stats up. I've brought VIT END ADP STR up to 20 because I wanted to use STR weapons and have reasonable health and endurance.

Most of the good weapons I'm finding scale weakly with both STR and DEX, so I feel like I should bring up DEX for my STR weapons.

ADP and ATT scale up agility in concert, so I should bring up ADP.

And if I want any of the magic or elemental weapons I need to bring up some combination of INT and FAI.

Basically this all leaves very little room for specialization. Any else feeling this?

You need
the Bastille Key which you use to unlock the gates at the end of the two stairways right before the fog door, and there are two places to light up there.
Weird, I beat him and I don't have the Bastille key.

Exists in a perpetual state of Quantum Crotch Uncertainty.
I made a Sorcerer yesterday and noticed that my Magic Bonus stopped increasing after 20. Is it because of my catalyst or 20 is the soft cap for INT? Really weird...

There's a weird sort of stat dead zone between 20 and 30 INT. After you hit 30 it'll start giving you decent bonuses for raising it again. I'm guessing it's to prevent people from going beyond 20 points if they're not going for a dedicated sorcery or hex build, but it's mighty odd all the same.

I played quite a lot this Saturday. Got to the
Pursuer
and got killed so I decided to help some others with it first,

To make a long story short, it all ends with me at
a ballista
and the host and one other phantom hitting the
Pursuer
for his last bit of life and start making gestures to celebrate. Of course I want to get in on that so I hit circle to cancel out of the
ballista
. Or so I thought! It turns out that
both circle and X fires it
. The host and the other phantom dies at the same time as the boss. I felt really bad and hope the host made it back to the boss room to collect his souls :(

How do the upgrades work in this game? I finally found a magic stone which I guess I can use to change a weapon into a magic weapon? but do I need to level it to +5 normal first, or do I get more damage if I do that first or just go straight to magic and level it from there?

It kinda just sounds like you want to go for a jack of all trades build.

Depends on what you want I guess, but more often than not it's better just to go for a weapon that scales A or S compared to a weapon that scales to both so you can specialise in one. Depends on what you what you can find I guess. I know there are a few weapons early on with high scaling for strength but for DEX builds you have to wait for awhile.

The only buffing you need is probably magic weapon or dark weapon depending on what you want, so just go look up the requirements for that. There are items to bring down the level requirement for spells too.

Question, after you beat
The Gargoyles
where technically is the correct area to go? My character is
down in The Gutter area and I just finally went to Heide Knight Tower.

When is everyone gonna stop leveling up? I'm level 144 and I'm thinking about stopping at around 155 or 160. Is that too much?

These guys made me swear so much. Attempting them solo as a FTH build proved to be quite vexing.

Im trying to solo them cause I have no effigies, but I might have to scrap that plan. The first one is easy enough when you get the dodging down, but fighting the other two at once is where I always die. I got a swordsman build but didn't even realize it was geared towards dexterity. Oh well.

lol I just summoned someone and then rolled off the ledge like 50 feet from the bonfire -_-

for my first character, I'm probably never going to stop leveling; once a consensus is reached for pvp etc, I'll make a variety of other characters for different themes, but my first character is going to eventually be "over-leveled" and used for NG+++ etc.

I would go through
Heide
first,
Heide and Forest of Giants
seem to be the first two intended areas to visit.

Welp... I didn't find any door down there that I could remember. I made it to the Gulch and beat the boss, and explored all I could of the Gutter but that place is hard to navigate, even when lighting all the beacons I could find. There's a door? Can anyone spoiler-tag me some indications as to how to reach it?

Not sure if you're still going see this since this thread moves so fast, but:

starting from the upper bonfire in the Gutter, head left and jump across platforms where necessary until you get close to the wall. There will be a ladder that goes away from the boxes into a cave area. There's a door in there. I'm still not sure how to open it yet

Don't give up. What you really need to do is to make sure that the 2 of them are always in sight. Never attack until you can see the both of them and wait for the both of them to make an opening, which happens often enough seeing that they like to attack together. Patience is the key really.

It's significantly easier. I'm convinced people saying it's harder, haven't pumped ADP to at least 20.

I was doing that fight for about an hour and half yesterday, it was such a pain in the ass.

The good thing is you can just run past everything to get to the bosses.

What I ended up having to do was build up my Mace to +6, that thing takes huge chunks off the sentinels.

It got much easier at that point, because after you kill the first on the ledge, you can wait for the 2nd one to jump up, knock off a decent chunk of his health and then get away before the third jumps up. That way when you are on the ground you only have to hit the second a few more times and are left with a one on one fight in the big lower area.

It took a whole lot of cursing, but I got it done

If you lay down your sign and win enough with other people, you will become human again. I've down this on a couple of bosses, even despite having the effigies (covenant reasons).

You have to learn to dodge sooner of later. ;)

About to get my estus flask number 12. It is amazing how much easier the game becomes the further you get into it and you begin to stabilize. It was the same way for DkS as well.

I'm past the
Dragon Shrine
and I haven't found any after 9 :-(

After reading here that you can get unlimited large titanite / chunks from
the ore vendor who shows up in Harvest Valley
, and chunks from the bell covenant, I'm not worried about being able to farm for weapon upgrades anymore.

But does anyone know the exact rules for the shrine
after the song of god that's supposed to restore your humanity
? I've read that it only works if you don't have any effigies left and if you don't have sin. I killed the witches in the beginning and my cost to absolve is like 125K so I hope it's not that.

How do you get
chunks from the bell covenant?

Arkos

Nose how to spell and rede to
So I'm just getting started in earnest, is there any way to block kick or parry with two weapons? Because I refuse to not dual wield.

Only had time to play a few hours, so far it's awesome. Love the torch mechanic and I think the graphics are quite nice. Somehow I've managed to avoid dying a lot as well, I think only 2 times up to
just after the forest of giants boss
.

But my favorite thing is that it was possible to create a cool looking character in this. I'll actually strive to avoid hoods/helmets in this compared to DS where I never wanted to see the hideous visage of my character.
