I was paying closer attention to my staff's stats a few minutes ago and noticed it does more Dark ATK than Magic ATK. So, Hexes are modified by Dark ATK stats correct? I just wunna make sure before I spend souls on them.

Now that I've finished the game a few days ago, I've been helping people finished the last boss today. I must have hit a soul memory or whatever too high now to get summoned. I was summoned in seconds when I first started, now I've been sitting here for 7-8 minutes and nothing. My hopes of getting 30 sunlight medals have been dashed.

You should move on to the new game cycle afterwards if you want to get some more as more people will likely be in range.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right. Maybe I shouldn't have gone and collected
2 additional giant souls and killed Vendrick
between summon sessions. I could have gotten a few more summons before hitting the soul memory wall. I also popped some hefty souls to get myself leveled enough to effectively use the Black Knight Great Sword and level it up.

860,000 or so SM and I'm not getting summoned at Earthen Peak. WHY.jpg

The three times I've gotten summoned they don't
take the windmill
out. Thereby making it harder than it should be. Ugh.

I still got 10 more Jolly Co-ops I need to do before I stop worrying about SM for summons. D:

Can someone explain to me what Mundane infusion does?

It makes the strength of your weapon increase with your lowest stat. So if you were 20 across all stats, but 5 in one stat, then it would have a really poor attack bonus.

But if you were 20 in every single stat, then your lowest stat would be 20, and it would have a really great attack bonus.

Why don't you go do iron king as more people will being doing that one with possibly comparable ranges that they will be doing the baneful queen.

The black knight greatsword is worth that sacrifice wear a bracing knuckle ring if durability is an issue.

Because I'm trying to get these last 10 medals as quick as I can and these three bosses I'm trying are the "easiest" to guarantee I get a medal without increasing my SM to levels where I won't be summoned at 10 levels. D:

(Plus I haven't been through the Keep yet)

Disguising yourself as a crate in Drangleic Castle is excellent use of chameleon, I decided to sneak past a few arbiter spirits. Also having a couple of friends disguise themselves as barrels on the ship in No Man's Wharf is excellent. Chameleon works a lot better if you can destroy an item and replace it.

i got summoned as blue phantom like 3 times in a row over 10 minutes, it was crazy. got a couple more summons over the day too.

i've been getting summoned when the host is like half a hit away from death and i always manage to get the black phantom but host also dies and i never know if that counted or not

i really want to help these people but game always summons me too late :I

also tried one of them giant statues and what the hell did i just play

So it makes it scales with a stats that doesn't have a stat bonus in the weapon but an overall stat (like ADP or VGR). Don't really see the usefulness of it.

So I got the four big souls.. Lady told me to go to Castle, don't know where Castle is. I've been paying pretty good attention to the game. Not looking for a direct answer but if someone could push me in the general direction.

Head to the forest that was blocked by the contraption and head up the path. The crossroads bonfire.

It has far more clarity. In addition to the covenants themselves usually telling you at least a bit about them (or a lot), there's also item descriptions for covenant items which are generally clear, and NPCs such as Shalquoir also explain some of them.

I think making anything even more clear would require From to break immersion to explain it, and that is clearly something they refuse to do (a hallmark of the series).
100% in agreement, the covenants in this game are far more opaque than in previous, I don't know why anyone would have said yes to the Champion's covenant without being ready for absolutely anything :p

And it wasn't the first covenant I saw offered to me, that would be the Way of Blue, which is the perfect first one for new players to come across. so whaaaatever.

Got summoned to help beat the Old King and the host immediately rolled into fire. It was his first time as the video played. smh.

Managed to beat the RRA....wasn't too hard once the
life bar
showed up. Only took 3 hits to end him. Then I died from poison...oops.

The Gutter is a real pain in the ass. Figured out half way through the level what the sconces were.

You can't hit Nashandra's curse orbs with rapiers.

Fuck. FUCKING FUCK FUCKER

EDIT: Breath. Breath.

I've killed this boss like 6 times now with my other characters, but this shitbag dual wield rapier character is literally the worst thing ever.

EDIT 2: You know having to sit here and watch the king's door take 8 million years to open each attempt is really improving my mood.

EDIT 3: Went back to Majula and made a +10 blacksteel katana and completely wrecked her face.

You guys who love challenge runs, forget SL1, try dual rapiers.

So I started the game and chose cleric with the hopes of being a paladin or something, but now I guess I'm just going to stay as a cleric.

Any tips for that type of play through?

I'm mostly putting my points in faith and att.
Some in END and I put maybe too much in STR about 20.

I just got the saints armor, kinda like the way it looks, before that I was just using the starting arch duke robe and nothing else.

Any good ideas for weapons? I'm using a mace+6 which has worked really well so far, haven't had a single problem with any of the ten or so bosses so far.
Any advantage to dual wielding?

Some pretty excellent discussions over at reddit around it.

I've found it to be a novel experience, but not nearly as great as those threads suggest.

Royal Rat Authority is officially the most unpleasant experience ive had with this game, I feel like I cannot dodge any of his moves

Aside from those nuisance rats at the beginning, it's a manageable fight. Treat it like Sif from DS1, and get under him. I did this via rolling straight ahead, into each of his attacks. Then manage your stamina carefully so you always have enough to eat an attack.

Respec for strength and use estoc's instead as they scale with strength more than rapiers whilst sharing the moveset.

Except they don't share a moveset. You can't parry with an Estoc in the main hand, which you can with Rapier allowing you to stay in power stance if you so choose.

Dual wielding rapiers is not that good. 2h that thing and stunlock everything to death.

Rolling L1 > L1 disagrees with you, especially with a Leo Ring.

Power stanced Rapiers are counter based. They do huge damage if you beat people to the punch with the fast pokes; I hit for like 700 on a power-stanced counter L1 and that's with a pure DEX spec. So your run of the mill dark spamming Hexer will do a lot more than that with a weapon that's extremely fast and has a parry in either hand. Rapiers are quite good in PvP, two handed or power stanced.

Kill the rats at the beginning. Then each time he attacks roll forward. Don't lock on. When he jumps away wait for an attack and roll under him again. Problem solved.

Pro-tip: Always stay under its belly. He will never hit you (unless it spits the super corrosive acid juices of permanent death and destruction).

5 more Jolly Co-ops to go. 1mill SM nearly. No one summoning for
Smelter Demon
so I can chip damage for them. D:

Speaking of which: Where is a damn better catalyst than the default spell one? I think it's been time to replace this sucker but I don't have better ones.

The next one which is really worth upgrading as a sorcerer is only available in Shrine of Amana, which is after Drangleic castle.

So after the king ring,
I can just go beat the final boss right? Will that end the game or can I still do all the other stuff? Seems weird that like 4-5 areas are totally optional

Wait, I should be UPGRADING these? I've been upgrading my Short Sword+Fire to +3. D:

Yes, it's not like Dark Souls 1 where your staves couldn't be upgraded.

Oh shit. No wonder I've been doing 50 damage all this time. D:

I just upgraded it to like +4 or something and still only do like 100 damage. I dunno why.

But I got like one more Jolly-- Summoned. Beat the
Iron Smelter
for the last grinding time. HOORAH. RANK 3 SUNBRO TIEM.--

But geez, no wonder I've been doing bad damage if that's the case for magic and faith now. D:

I guess a question is: Where the hell to farm stones to upgrade to max then?

I'm completely stuck on Ancient Dragon and Darklurker but don't want to beat the game so I'm just dicking around with PvP on the Iron Keep Bridge. The Curved Dragon Greatsword seems kind of bad mannered in pvp.

Are you on NG or NG+?

If it's the later, I can offer some help. I love killing Ancient Dragons.

While AD caused me all sorts of grief, Darklurker I had zero trouble with, and didn't realise it was a difficult boss until reading about it constantly in this thread! I didn't even know it had a 'final form', or split, until I read about it in here!

What a funny ol' game Dark Souls is.

In addition to upgrading catalysts, you can also imbue them. Imbue with magic if you're going sorcery, dark for hexes, boltstone for lightning

had a 3rd bonfire. Used a key I gained from one of the area bosses to open up a door near the 2nd bonfire and discovered the separate area. Found some items and souls, but otherwise the area seems useless to someone of my level (67). It also doesn't connect to anything -- I believe it's a complete dead end.

never left the stone age
King of filth, dead. Not tempting me to join that vile covenant. Also, old friend never used any dark attacks, I was waiting for it to happen, as it did every single time I White Phantom'd my way into other worlds to help out.

The dead end design of DS2 is really irritating to me. Kind of discourages exploration to my mind...

I think they stuck that bonfire there was so you could easily check for seeds of a tree of giants.

There is a 10% chance it will be there after every time you've been invaded. I like using them as the invader usually has no idea whats going on and dies pretty quickly.

I'm guessing there's no "three way" spell catalyst like the Faith/Spell catalyst in Dark 1? :( I saw a dual-one sold from the Hex dude near Huntman's but I want just one to upgrade just in case I need any of the schools of magic (with a Pyromancy flame) in a pinch. D:
