Darksiders II |OT| What starts with War, ends with Death.

5 hours in and I'm finding the tearing/framerate complaints to be WAY overblown. This isn't nearly as bad as something like Dragon's Dogma and, on the rare occasion I get screen tearing, I can barely see it.

It's nowhere near as bad as DD but anytime you use despair or swim the game tears like mad.

Can anyone give me more info on 360 version frame-rate.

The Giantbombcast said there are some pretty significant problems.

Got me kind of worried.

The impressions about the frame-rate in this thread are a mess...one guy says there is no problem with drops and the tearing is hardly visible and the next guy says how disappointed he is with the game's performance - either some people are immune to bad frame-rate or the game's performance for some reason is not the same for everyone and things like resolution, HDMI/component and installment to HDD affect in some way the frame-rate of the game.

At this point I'd say just wait for an article with a frame-rate analysis from Digital Foundry or Lens of Truth and then decide.

yeap the camera is bad... and toooo close. :/

Yeah, I feel like the world is a little TOO big sometimes. Going through the Makers Realm, I'm missing handholds and run-up-able walls that should be obvious, but are hidden because Death is too close to them. I literally have to see a traversable patch from a far away distance (usually on horseback) to even know it's there.

Also, how's Apocalyptic? I'm thinking of switching to it (I'm only an hour or so in). Normal is a little challenging, but that's because I keep forgetting to dodge.

the game gets hardish on normal the closer to the end you get, if you want to get 1 shotted a lot then yes....

Forgot to mention, 360 installed and set to 1080p, I've seen one tear in an hour or so. Maybe it gets worse later but the performance is fine to me. Framerate has dipped slightly, but trust me, it's not bad.

Back to the camera, really need an option to turn off the auto camera. It's so close it's hard to see the environment, and then when I need to look around while moving I'm constantly fighting the stupid camera. It's ridiculous not to include an option...

It's been smooth sailing over here

Generally, if you come across something bigger than you, you'll die in 1 to 2 hits. Everything else is pretty easy to handle

Playing on a GTX 570 and I'm getting a lot of stuttering. The frame rate seems to be fine but it still feels, laggy.

I've enabled Vsync from the nvidia control panel and the screen tearing is non-existent. It just doesn't seem to be running right.

either way, the game seem great. I'm about 2 hours and look forward to finishing it on the weekend.

The first map gave me no trouble at all on apocalyptic. Don´t know how hard it will get later on.

Yeah, Haven't really encountered...well any of the complaints in this thread so far.

I am using the nVidia control panel to force 8x fsaa and the game looks gorgeous. Any advantages to using nInspector instead?

what drivers are you using? I've used both the 304.xx and 305.xx beta drivers on my 580 and had no issues

I think 305.xx. I downloaded it yesterday from Nvidias web site. I also forgot to mention that I've changed some of the settings from the nvidia control panel.

Maybe that's what's messing it up.

The Makers are giant, epic dwarves. This game speaka my language!!!

Loving it so far! It's very epic and this game does eye candy better than most in memory. If the camera was more friendly I'd say the game is perfect. L2 seems to help a bit but I haven't caught the hang of it yet.

This game is a testiment to taking everybody else's good stuff and making it your own. God of War fighting plus Prince of Persia traversal and some kinda loot!

It's ambitious and delicious! No reason not to play dis game!

Are the colors supposed to be completely washed out and grey in the second dungeon? I'm playing on the 360 and wondering if this is normal.

The 305.53 drivers aren't even on Nvidia's beta site...at least I couldn't find them. But yeah, try those. My 580 is running it fine but I don't have vsync enabled, just forced SGSSAA.

I am in the same boat. Couldn't figure out the afterburner, got horrible stuttering using Nvidia. D3Doverdriver seems to cause the same type of stuttering.

So I am working through the origional game before I play through the 2nd one. I saw this article while browsing today.

http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/darksiders-2/1225740p1.html

So GAF PC gamers do you agree with this basically saying it is a terrible port?

It could be a better port options wise, but the game is optimized really well. V-syc doesn't work in-game right now, and there are no in-game AA options so you have to force them.

Basically it is almost the same as the first game on PC in that regard. I would say it is probably still the best platform to play on if you have a gamepad.

The one thing that bothers me about this game is that all the dungeons were apparently constructed exactly for someone with Death's capabilities. Why else would there be panels that flip around specifically to put out little posts that could extend someone's wall run?

That music when
you fight war at the beginning

amazing!

Yeah, the music in the game has really impressed me so far, but this was the standout.

Pro tip, If you are close to walls and want to see where you need to scale up or what way to jump look for erosion

I was wondering this. There's one corridor in the second dungeon where the grey and washed out looked literally turns off and everything has colour. As soon as you leave it, washed out and grey again.

Playing the 360 version here, HDMI, 1080p, installed and the frame rate is poor. Obviously I can't give a number but I'd say its in the mid 20's and includes hiccups and stutters.

Same exact setup as yourself and my frame rate is a steady 30 it will dip on a rare occasion but nothing too horrible. I do not get much tearing either. So far the game is fucking awesome.

I think the different framerate impressions are coming from people who are more or less sensitive to the issues.

That's probably what it is. I've had no complaints with the 360 version, but I'm not really a stickler for framerate and I never notice screen tearing unless I'm specifically trying to notice it.

It is by design. the water brings color and life back. I thought it was a really cool effect.

Honestly if I were getting a steady 30 I'd be smitten. That's perfectly fine in my book, anything above 30 and I'd say the game was an over achiever.

I don't know how you fuckers are doing it. Im getting owned in everything but the main questline in apocalyptic. All the side bosses are hard and i cant make it past the crucible wave 3.

Make sure you are upgrading your armor and keep potions on hand (travel back to Muria if you need more). Also, having a self-healing Wrath move goes a long way (Teleport Slash / Murder).

Also, Tragic, how do I get the air move that you were doing on stream? The air rave ender where Death spins the scythes vertically downwards and they turn red. Thane didn't teach it.

It's an advanced move - Flipsaw. You'll have to buy it from the next trainer you meet (which is soon after arriving in the second zone/world)

Also, I might've figured out the "hidden" property of meteor strike.

Pressing the secondary attack button just as you touch the ground after a meteor strike does the just-time version od the secondary charge move instantly.[/QUOTE

You got it. This actually performs the "sweet spot" version of the charge without having to have purchased it. The sweet spot functionality is also available at the next trainer. Crow Tip (since ProTip is probably trademarked): There are two other hidden Just Frame activation spots =).

I'm having an issue with
Thane's followup question with all the bosses
(quest name) , I show up at their location but they're all invisible/transparent with a black outline and I just stand there and I can't fight them, anybody knows what the issue is?

Are you sure the black outline enemies are the bosses you need to kill? You may be looking at the Bloodless enemies... in which you need a special talisman to see completely. Just a thought.

how do you do that charge where he launches with the axe?? i can only do it after meteor strike.

As mentioned above, in the second zone, you will be able to purchase Advanced Training for all of the weapons. This unlocks the sweet spot functionality. Until then, you can use the meteor strike version to do it.... or, if people discover the other 2 just frame activations, you can use those too!

Part of me is still really umming and ahhing over this. Is it really that much better than the first? I can't really afford to buy games Day 1 anymore but all the stuff I've heard (loot, hardcoremode, dungeons, combat, music) are intriguing me. Sounds almost like this year's Arkham City. I could get it on release day next week or wait a while and borrow it from a frind/get it on the cheap. Argh, decisions.

started playing this on ps3, ( was contemplating getting it on steam...) is anybody bothered by the blur filter? its not as worse as the demo of FallofCybtertron, but its obvious to me the filter is present, darksiders 1 didnt have this ><;

Game is fun, but I seem to be actively moving the camera a lot more looking for things i get to to smash lol. and also, instead of dodging on reaction to enemy hits, i kinda just tap r1 randomly just so not to get hit. the camera seems kinda down to earth compared to darksiders 1's camera. maybe its just me, cant wait to continue playing tonight.

It seems odd we can equip different armor sets for Death, i dont think this game needed it, there are some other games that would benefit from it (cough ME3....cough).

Got me kind of worried.

The framerate dips "slighty" depending on what's going on at the time (usually with alot of chaos going on the screen). Otherwise it's pretty smooth imo. All in all, it depends on how anal you are with framerate.

I have decided to cancel my uk xbox preorder until I hear a definte opinion on the framerate problems.

Framerate issues in an action game is a massive problem for me.

I had the same PC frame stutter everyone is mentioning. Forcing Vsync in the control panel doesn't help, but Forcing it on the control panel AND using D3DOverride does fix my problem. Without setting both of these on (vsync and triple buffer on both devices) the stuttering exists. For those with the problem, try enabling it in both programs (and obviously disabling it in game).

Playing at a silky smooth 60, no stutters.
