Well, I started reading DC Comics after Infinite Crisis so I'm technically one of those post-humous Kord fans. :p But yes, Jaime just works so fucking well as a character. I know the book was cancelled before the reboot, but he was getting a push in Batman The Brave and the Bold too. Then they brought him back but didn't understand what it was that made the character great.

My poor Renee. When I dressed up as her at NYCC I had two very polarized reactions: Either people were incredibly excited to see me or they were complete and under jackasses about the fact that I dared to dress up as a gay woman who took up the mantle from a male superhero.

I'm actually for more change in these stories but changes that work well. Two examples are Renee and Jaime! Another was DickBats! The reboot felt not so much as more changes but a regression. You don't need to undo a character's history to tell new stories. How about instead let them grow (and die) organically?

Yeah Jamie, Renee, Jason, Kyle,Ryan, and Wally are perfect examples of letting someone inherit a mantle and let them run with it.

But of course they don't fit the DCU of Johns childhood so they had to get the fuck out.

Replacement heroes are usually dumped on, except Ben Reilly, who sucked.

Blue Beetle, Atom, and Firestorm were pretty much dead mantles. No one gave a fuck until a better hero took them over

Another was DickBats!
You lost me.
Was a great run but not something i'd ever want long term.
I really don't see anyone as a suitable Batman replacement(Batman is Bruce, and Bruce is just Batman in disguise) Batman Beyond i'd give Terry but I view him differently than typical Batman.
plus Dick becoming his own thing was great, forced to pretend to be Batman really hurt him for me.

It warms my heart to see the Jaime appreciation up in here, but this is true.

The atrociousness bit, I hadn't heard the thing about the writer/artist conflict before.

Long story short, the artist got backed by the editor on how the book should be done, the writer was told he'd be writing it again himself and they'd keep his name as writer. The artist guy was pretty nutty as hell and did not get along with the writer at all. End result, the actual writer got kicked off or quit, can't remember which and was blamed for the books failure by many people because they didn't know he wasn't actually writing it until he took to the net to defend himself. Bleeding Cool actually did have some good articles about it. Oh yeah, the writer guy lost a job or two based on "his work" of NuDC Blue Beetle. Like I said, dude got screwed. It was a true shit storm.

I still can't believe that DC never had a team that consisted of Dick, Kyle, Wally and others like Jamie or Jason. I mean for ages people were hyped over the idea that the "next generation" might have a team all of their own be it Titans or JLA or something else even. But it never happened. A real wasted opportunity.

I agree, we got a good hug so far at least.

And none of that "family is all here" while she actually exists but is off in Hong Kong.
Sounds like they're off to a good start. I just want my Batkids back with their dad. ;-;

And yup, that was SOME bullshit. I'll pretend that Cass was skyping in and Jason was creeping near the windows crying.

I'm sorry it wasn't my intention of even implying that people who didn't like change were philistines with no taste or something.
Again I just started reading comics starting with n52 runs of pretty much everyone (barring teen titans I feel like I don't want that).
And what I've read so far is pretty good.
I'm really liking what I'm reading thanks to good council from a friend so I haven't had the displeasure of being jaded by bad decisions.
No worries. I get that having people who have pretty much checked out still posting and being bitter can be annoying. I pretty much post in these threads because literally no one else in my life is into superhero comics beyond what I tell them and because there's still a part of me that hopes that DC will bring back the stuff that made me enjoy their books in the first place.

a lack of a fun teen book makes me think this as well.
Gotham Academy seems to fit the bill. What got me into comics was Runaways so I do think they're super important. But just as important is not doing shit that is alienating. (Like ignoring your huge female cast.)

Bwahahahahahahahahahah Lobdell ain't goin nowhere. Not as long as he got dirt on Didio and Johns.

I honestly wish they'd phase out Bruce as being the main guy on the field and all the kids become a Bat once they get older. It's like Pokemon evolving! :p

This is where we disagree. For me Batman is just a costume. Bruce is Bruce.

I'll add one more to the praise for Gotham Academy. It's a good book. Enjoy it while you can, pretty sure the artist is leaving soon sadly. The art makes it stand out.

Karl Kerschl is so good. Teen Titans: Year One is such a pretty book. I couldn't believe the industry seemed to let this guy go back when I read it. I'm gonna guess he's not jumping on another superhero book after this. :(

Diet Racist Stein is pro-active. He drugged him in the first episode of Legends.

Honestly, I prefer the Jason/Ronnie pairing.

"Quick Jason use your fast twitch muscles to dodge Naiad's attacks"

Damn I just realized I know Firestorm's rogue gallery

Hey guys Firestorm has a rogue gallery.

Give me my Gotham Central reboot, DC, to tie into to your infinitely shittier show Gotham.

Gotham is legit great now, stop hating.

I mean, Gotham Central is still much, much, MUCH better, but that's because Gotham Central is, like, some absolute top shelf comics. Not because Gotham is bad.

Is he not doing the second volume of TT Earth 1? Bummer.

Hey guys Firestorm has a rogue gallery.

When Bison-Black-as-Midnight-Sky is killed by muggers, his soul takes over his great-grandson's body John Ravenhair via an amulet to avenge wrongs done against the Native American people.

I'm all for this. We have some pretty crappy creative teams on some stuff right now (GL, Catwoman, Flash, etc), so I'd like to see a shake-up. There's also the rumor that Snyder will move to Detective Comics and someone else will take over for Batman. That excites me, too, since it will be cool to see Snyder do some stuff that doesn't have to be grand, epic-scale stories every time.

And please keep Gotham Academy around, DC.

But if I had that kind of power would I do any different.

Maybe

But tell you one thing if I was running DC

Vixen on going

Blue Beetle ongoing

The Brave and the Bold staring Son of Vulcan and Huntress

House of Mystery(Urban Fantasy like) staring Renee as the Stranger

And that is just the start.

Give me a Batgirls book(Barbara, Steph, Cass and maybe Harper)

Fix god awful Selfie Barbara and rebooted Canary

Fix Dick Grayson, Shiva and Tim Drake

Put Earth 2 Helena Wayne back on the main Earth

Fuck Cyborg, put Manhunter back in the JL

Renee talk reminded me I forgot something major.
#2 for the love of god fix Batwoman. Let her get married and try to get the writers back.

We'll know if Gotham Academy survives next month after the post-Yearbook solicits come out.

Fingers crossed!

oh shit Ropeguy is a Firestorm rogue? I thought he was one of Batman's Z list villains

Slipknot's only role of consequence is failing to strangle a robot and getting his hand blown off when he gets suckered by Boomer.

There's going to be a second one? The first was pretty confusing.

Yeah, though I'm having trouble digging up the sources :p

I didn't really have any trouble following it, was a fun little book. The real question is, when are we getting another Batman Earth One, starring Batman and his sidekick, Waylon Jones?

I know you did that for my sake, and i thank you, but vulcan could handle a solo. He did have two different rogues galleries.

As to the Batgirls.

Loved Cass. Especially before she could talk. She was so bad ass. And now that while history is gone.

And Steph, I loved that she finally stepped up to the majors and her take on Batgirl was fun. And then wiped from existence.

The Batfamily had such great new characters. Misfit from the BoP, all that gone now. Loved BoP. Loved Secret Six. Black Alice.

It's not a matter of if that character is somehow back in 52. Their past is gone.

All of it gone, like tears in rain.

Do you know how much it bothers me there are martian hybrids out there and no one gives a fuck to use them?

I live for obscure shit like that.

And they dropped them on the last issue too. They really wasted vulcan. They could have built him as a contingency to all martians, but nope. Cancelled

Firestorm was actually my first superhero comic way back when i was a kid. My grandmother bought a box of comics from a garage sale for me.

I just watched Legends of Tomorrow and saw Stein date rape a young guy so I think I've hit my weekly quota of laughing at Firestorm.

Shrennin

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
What they should do is relaunch the universe, but keep the core stories that are staples of the character (relaunched Batman with fresh stories, but re-release a few of the classic stories and tie that into the new universe -- Year One, Killing Joke, etc.). If it's something like Court of Owls, then that could be worked in but certain things that conflict with the others could be modified -- like the Batfamily and timeline issues (have Snyder do it).

Or just reboot the whole thing with completely fresh stories. Soft reboots just feel like they shouldn't have been done in the first place.
