Which is over prescribed. And America wonders why prescription drugs kill more than illicit drugs..

Then wonder why mental health is such a huge issue.

Being prescribed doesn't mean the drug is less harmful or safe. With thirty minute break downs of known side effects. Just saying.
 
Anyone else think of that episode of Monk where the dead body was sitting in the wine tank that everybody was drinking out of?
 
I'm noticing a rise in females traveling abroad solo. People from work, some of my wife's friends at work etc,it just seems like a terrible idea to me. These girls probably stick out like a total tourist, are alone and possibly vulnerable. Poor girl must have been scared shitless. Please ladies don't travel solo if you can help it, too many creeps in the world.

Let's not treat women like they're helpless now. A lot of women that I know that do this are either 1) driven by some cause or 2) looking for a relationship with a guy they met online. Either way, it'd be hard to get them to bring other people with them.
Also, while I think critical thinking is necessary for cases like this, I think that some of the ideas presented in this thread are farfetched. Not impossible, but I think we should first take things at face value.

Solo male tourists can get into all sorts of trouble too...There was a few days worth of news in my country last year about this guy who had to go work in Greece for a few days. He reached there and then disappeared after 2 days. Was never found. I think he had just gotten married or had a new baby or so... Really sad case because there wasn't even a body for them to find or any closure. Wasn't there also a case of this gay guy (Chinese exchange student) who was killed and eaten by a male porn star after they went out on a date that happened in Canada recently. Men are as vunerable as women when on their own.
 
Is it confirmed her neck was broken?

And is it confirmed the video is from late night on January 31st (she was supposed to check out the next day)?

If so, then the video is probably the last video of her from security cams.

If her neck was broken, my guess is someone invited her to go on the rooftop to have fun/good view/drink, maybe with that person only or more than one. They may have tried to climb on the elevated part above next to the water tanks, and she fell and broke her neck and died. The person(s) decided to hide her body in the tank. I think it would take more than one person to do it though.
 
So please excuse me because I don't make it a habit to curse often but I just spent the last two hours of my work day reading this thread (had never heard or seen anything about this before now). Let me recap my thoughts: Fuck that hotel, fuck that video, fuck Dark Waters, Fuck anyone who has brought up demons and most importantly.....

Seriously though, for what my two cents is worth. I think she is slightly inebriated but not on anything major, I think the video is showing her being bubbly in a situation until it turns to her being scared of something but then possibly back to bubbly? She was definately talking to someone outside of the elevator and her initial reaction was fear that then changed to minor trust for some reason. I guess she should have stuck with the initial reaction but hindsight is 20/20. I can't really get behind the whole elevator doesn't work theory because the video shows the elevator moving at a normal rate after that. Even if you want to bring up the fact that the camera goes into a sleep mode when there is no movement (which is probably true for a low budget place like this), I believe someone pointed out that the time stamp only changes a matter of seconds so its not like we had the camera in sleep mode for 5 minutes while the elevator was warming back up or something.

Also would like to point out, more often than not hotels will only have cameras in the lobby/other main first floor hub areas and the elevator. A lot of hotels won't put cameras in the hallways because it starts getting sticky because the cameras can never ever ever ever have a view into someones room and its hard to position in a camera in a hallway without it being able to catch a glimpse of an interior of a room when a door is open. I also think, based on the many youtube videos of people screwing around on the roof, that the roof alarm either didnt work (possible but not likely just because these shit-holes try to at least keep up a better appearance than how it actually is) or did work but so many people go up their anyway that staff just learned to ignore the alarm unless it didn't stop (odds are the alarm was only set to ring when the door was actually open, someone going through and closing it behind them would only have the alarm going for 10-15 seconds tops?)

Yeah I didn't mean for them to seem helpless, but most of the people I was referring to in my personal life have a very throw caution to the wind type of mentality. They will not do much research before leaving and come back and complain about the way they were treated etc. Regardless, based on the details we have now, even if she did try and research this place, they made it look like a way nicer joint than it was.
I suppose people just need to be more careful in general especially when travelling somewhere out of the comfort zone.

That woman who went to Turkey was a graffiti art afficionado, and would go to different countries to chronicle their graffiti. She also went there because she met a guy online, but ended up getting killed. They suspect a homeless man just hit her in the head with a brick and robbed her. Her husband, who was in America with the kid at the time, was possibly not aware of her relationship, and is not currently an apparent suspect.

On March 17, 1985, Ramirez attacked 22-year-old Angela Barrios outside her home. He shot her before entering her house. Inside was Dayle Okazaki, age 34, whom Ramirez immediately shot and killed. Barrios survived. The bullet had ricocheted off the keys she held in her hands, as she lifted them to protect herself.

Living one block from The Cecil, I've been peeking at this thread. You guys are really on it with the tumblr and other speculations. The media here in LA is really tight lipped. The cecil is pretty dead but when I peek inside the staff make it seem business as usual.
I am curious as to the new details, what was determined in the autopsy, did she drown? I am also curious about the connection with the youtube account. If anyone could fill me in, that would be great.

I also wanted to give my 2 cents on a few things. I live in a loft in one of the buildings a block away. This part of town is full of homeless, mentally ill, hispanics working in all the run down shops, and transients with the greyhound only half a mile away. The prison drops off released inmates closeby, and I run into severely mentally ill, or gangsters every day. While there are "hipsters" and loft buildings, there's still a lot of work to be done. I'm curious, though, about the connections with the tumblr. If that is her account, the Speakeasy she is talking about is most likely Varnish in the back of Coles on the same block she stayed on. It's a dark speakeasy with a usually normal upscale for the area crowd. The block however, is really bad, and I never go drinking there, even with my boyfriend, even living 1 block away. Where coles is, is basically the start of skid row. It sounds like she lost her phone around there or in the bar. If she were outside perhaps somebody was harassing her and followed her. It would not be uncommon at all for that block. I was once followed down that block to a parking lot, it was terrifying. There is also visible drug dealing around that bar at all hours, and a busy bus stop. I've been followed for blocks from this area.

Is it just me or do her posts seem jumbled. She was at the Speakeasy before she checked into LA? I'm from downtown San diego as well, and don't think there is any speakeasy she could be talking about. Did she stay in San Diego as well?

In regards to any alarms in the building on the roof- I don't think that the alarms were properly working. I really don't. My building is a converted bank building just as old as the Cecil. Nothing works properly, and security is made up of a bunch of buffoons, and usually the same companies work with all the buildings here. Now I do want to know if there were more CC TV's and why there were breaks and oddities. I've never been into the cecil other than the coffee shop downstairs, but it seems like a halfway house, I highly HIGHLY doubt that anything functioned properly or "to code"

Also, to note, there are several suicides in Downtown LA. More recent ones at the Hotel Hayward on 6th/spring. Not sure if they occurred on the roof, but obviously no alarms were set if so. My building says they tape everything in the basement and the roof, however, you can see the screens while picking up packages with the doorman, and he's only watching the lobby. He once slipped and told me he can't see those areas.

Some of the higher lofts facing the Cecil in my building may have visible sight to those water tanks, as they face northwest. I wonder if anybody saw anything. I can clearly see them where I park my car, which is eerie. There are HUNDREDS of lofts facing those towers, I'm sure SOMEBODY saw something. People here are buzzing at all hours.

I also think it's interesting that her tumblr updated, and she said she lost her phone. I'm really curious to see the details play out here, as there could* be a murderer among me I do believe it was a staff member or downtown resident in this building. Many of the apt staff and "security" guards in downtown LA are corrupt. Actually, most are. There have been many stabbings and rapes by these staff, especially the security. They are not the most professional types, and most guards I walk by harass me or stare creepily. You cannot be vulnerable at all here.
The Last Bookstore, where she was noted to have been, is about a 2-3 block walk from the Cecil. It's a great bookstore, but again, the homeless hang out across the block and I've also been harassed over there. If you don't walk fast and act confidently, I would believe that she could have been stalked.


I Don't think Elisa was on drugs (Heavily, or at all) and the elevator clip is very scary. She was followed and scared, you can tell. I'm very curious to see how this plays out, and have not been able to sleep the past few nights boiling over this happening where I live. Needless to say, I'm moving to a different area in a month.
I wanted to post as a resident here, and if anyone has any questions about the area, let me know. Sorry if this is scattered, I just have so many thoughts and questions.

She's not, though. The "12th floor" would be the 13th floor in that building. Note there's a Lobby floor and a Mezzanine floor before you even get to the "2nd floor."

nah, more like a 1 in...hrm..237,000. If you were aiming at the keys. 1 in 32 million you have human skin deflecting the bullet, under proper conditions, of course. .
 
I think this was either a suicide or freak accident. Roof wasn't secured and in some of the pictures it looks like there is a ladder tied to one of the tanks. The tanks look pretty easy to get into. She also has a history of depression/mental illness.

It's true. Downtown Los Angeles is truly unique. Personally, I love it, but I understand it isn't for everyone. It's a shame that this case will give downtown bad connotations it doesn't deserve.
 
It's been radio silence on this case, we're still waiting on those autopsy results? I'm still so curious about what happened here.
 
this seems like one of those stories where it's gone far enough out of the national focus that people don't care anymore/make a stink and the powers that be are happy enough to get busy with other things. It's a shame since it's such a weird story (not to mention tragic)

Word around LA is that the autopsy tests that had been previously said to take "up to two months" have recently been completed and found evidence of psychoactive drugs in her system, but no concrete cause of death. I haven't heard anything about the case actually being closed, but it's likely to be ruled an accidental death.

I've been meaning to bump this thread, but for other reasons. We still don't know what in the hell happened as far as cause of death and the explanation of those unbelievably eerie security elevator videos. I get shivers everytime I think about them.
