Demon's Souls |OT2| Soulsuckingly brilliant RPG full of Demon's Crack

Did some red stone summon fights in 4-1. Had one fun fight, got absolutely mutilated on the next three by one shot backstabs.
Good to see nothing's changed!

Also, this game's surprises never cease to amaze me. After all the times I've finished it, I found a new thing:

In the Nexus, right at the top of the 'suicide stair' (where you can fall from and die), there's a series of square-shaped blocks embedded into the wall. If you fall onto them, they lead to an item.
(Some New Moon grass. From be trollin'.)

Tonight, I did really miserably in 5-2 and wasn't able to beat it.
First I was completely destroyed multiple times by that BP Meat Cleaver. How I'm I supposed to fight it without a shield and without being able to roll?

After many attempts I gave up fighting that BP but I lost my patience and the game was punishing-me for that. So I called it a night.
So, tonight I was completely unproductive. It's amazing how much that level changes when you don't have the right equipment.

cj_iwakura: thanks for the offer but yeah, playing NG+ SL1 is suicide.
And yes, Dark Souls is a larger and richer game but Demon's Souls is more polished and the atmosphere is better. Also, nothing beats Tower of Latria and especially Valley of Defilement which remembers me Shadow Tower.

You are crazy for fighting BP meat cleaver at SL1. I gave up on that quickly and used the thief ring to make that level a lot easier. Still a pain though

That's cool, I'm not sure I ever got that item. I love all the troll item placement in this game. 4-2: Oh, some items.. uh, thanks for the crescent moon grass I guess.. what was that sou---FFFFUU

My SL1's best weapon is the Flame/Dragon Longsword(or something). You have to 1H it, but it easily does more damage than anything else you can wield.

I got mine to +3.

That BP is the biggest troll in the game. You think "I have soul ray, I will tear him apart while he is slowly advancing". Nope, he can roll to avoid your attack and run toward you -> YOU DIED. Fuck.

I have a Dragon Long Sword+3 and I can farm some materials to upgrade it. I will use that I guess.

With that said, if you want we can try to play NG+ in your word and see how far we can get SL1.

To hell with her, I never tried, I went straight for the boss.

And my god is that a scary thought. Miralda got me in one shot.

started as a royal first time i played demons souls, and went pretty much all magic
finally went back to play again w/ a melee character and man, is it just me or are backstabs way fucking harder than they are in dark souls?

They are not harder, they are accurate.

I don't think so. if anything the AI is even dumber here, it's very easy to get behind a knight after baiting an attack

Started a SL1 playthrough and base-SL Knight playthrough myself, weird how I've forgotten so much stuff after over 6 months off. Too much Dark Souls and misc speedrunning, I guess. I've hit the Wiki a few times to relearn weaknesses and different strats. But I did manage to take down the Red Dragon with arrows and Clever Rat's after an hour. Already beat 1-1, 1-2, 3-1, 2-1, 2-2 (Flamelurker is still fun!), 4-1 and I'm working on 4-2 and 3-2 (on the SL1 run). Any reason why I should go to world 5 yet, item-wise?

There aren't anything useful in the world 5 for a SL1.
I used to do 5-1 very early to get the blessed mace but it's not that useful for a SL1...

I am going to start a sl1 criticals character. Maybe a mehistopholes toon instead of miralda? My plan is to upgrade using suckerstone if marrowstone is too sparse....both are in 5-2 ....slugs and mosquitoes. the pure marrowstone is in5-3.

Man this game has not lost its novelty...its actually even more fun now that I am generally a better player from Dark. Colourless demons souls farming in 3-2 was sooooooo fun. You get invasions in the swamp, summons to be the old monk, and extra colourless demons souls....I messed up the glitch after only two CDS's though and killed the primevil demon by mistake.....that hurt. Moved on to 1-3 and although I do not get summoned to monk I have got 5 CDS's or so in an hour. My bbs chick is now level 55 or so with 17 or 18 accross the board including luck...the luck stat only increaed damage by 10 points with three levels of upgrade....think I'll just leave her there.....she is getting so much action at this level.

I think it ends on the 14th. Pure White World Tendency will open up certain areas in some of the levels.
If you want to avoid spoilers, you can beat a level first and then check if there's any tendency events here:
http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/white-world-tendency-events

thanks. as soon as i logged on for the first time, i saw the event notice actually. i played for a good block of hours on Friday, but had a busy weekend so i havent played since then. so, unfortunately it looks like im only going to get to experience about 8 hours tops of the white event...

i cleared the first level from the nexus, or shall i say i beat the boss. i know for a fact that there are several other routes that i have not cleared. there were a few knights around that were kicking my ass early on. i scoured that level and literally the last place i look was the path to the boss. ha.

now im wandering around aimlessly jumping in and out of other levels that have opened up, not sure which to tackle first (im fine doing it this way). i assume the only was to know how do identify the actual levels themselves (eg 1-2, 1-2, 2-1, etc) is to learn about them via the wiki or something? i havent noticed any actual notation when im entering a world.

im a bit rusty, but i have 80+ hours of Dark Souls experience under my belt, so combat is going well for the most part. until i get ganged up on, or something decides to destroy me. ive leveld up a few times and leveled up a Scimtar i found and a shield i bought.

i went with Hunter for my first character. so far so good.

I was busy yesterday and I couldn't play but tonight, I will beat this game SL1.
I need to be patient with 5-2 and take it slowly and don't bother with that BP again (I will get my revenge in NG+ when I level up).
The pure black WT events will wait for NG+. The only one I did was the world 4.
Finally and before beating False King, I will try to beat Old King Duran. I remember he is not really difficult with parry>riposte.

Yeah I was trying to rush through 5-2 to get BBS... rushing that level is just suicide. It's annoying because my character kinda sucks until I get the BBS. So i'm running in there with a crescent falchion or makoto and pretty near base vitality. God damn that level. I love it/hate it. Last time I died *just* before unlocking the shortcut too.

i've never farmed colorless demon's souls before, what's the way to do that?

First archstone on the left side of the nexus is world 1. First world in there is 1-1, etc. Just shorthand. The one right next to that is world 2 etc. 4-1 is nice to do first because you can get a good weapon there and there's a merchant (who will be familiar to you if you've played Dark Souls!) who you can unlock near the beginning of 4-2 that will sell the better health grasses.

Finally beat Flamelurker last night. He wasn't too hard once I started being patient and actually running away from his attacks. Oh, and when for some reason he got caught behind some bones in the corner -- HIS problem not mine!

Anyway, I've now cleared 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2, 3-1, 4-1, 5-1. I played through a chunk of 3-2. The level itself seemed pretty easy but everyone says the boss is a beast. Any other levels I should hit first before tackling him?

What the fuck?

IMG_0817_zpsbbb609df.jpg

At first I didn't find him in his usual place in front of the Tower of Latria archstone (I wanted to buy some arrows) and the guy was sitting here all the time lol

Finally I cleared 5-2 thanks to 2AdEPT. Now I know why I was having so much trouble in that area. I had no idea I could sneak through these giant deprived ones. I was fighting them all the time and of course I died many times against them. Anyway I cleared the world 5. Why aren't there any boss like that in Dark Souls? Seriously that boss, and Old Monk are the most memorable of the series.
I also beat BP Garl Vinland after like 10 tries because it was taking forever with the little damage I was doing.

Anyway, I wouldn't be able to finish the game tonight but at least it was a good time cooping with 2AdEPT. If you want, I can help you go through the rest of the game and why not also get summoned by Old Monk, to get the head wrap. That would be fun!

yeah I know I can get through most of this game sl1 by myself but co-op is waaay more fun for some reason. I definitely will hook up more if you wish...thanks so much for those suckerstones and marrow!!!!! 5-2 was a blast and thanks to soulhof for helping out with 5-1 leechmonger....i realized I went in underequipped only after the fact...by the time I got to the merchant in 5-2 my arrow and spice supplies were low and she didn't have much...poison arrows aren;t cheap adn they don;t do as much damge on those depraved as regular....i realized I went in there with only +6 shortbow, dragon long and cresent falchion at +1...not enough especially when those ddepraved like to gank and pop out of the woodwork! Died a bunch in there but recalled that I like pressing the PS3 button to avoid raging....my opinion is that as long as you quit well in advance of the death slogan you are not hurting your system!!!! I hope? :)

got the shortcut open but got zero marrow chunks went back to 5-1 to get those bugs a try as that;s where I got the first marrow chunk...got blanked after trelessly dispatchin the giant in my way. I have a feeling I may do another round before I get my fatal secret dagger maxed. Right now it is +4 and does over 600 damage to dredglings in 1-1, back stabs 400. I may graduate this player to a pvp stealth specialist after round 1.

@sullichin:

CDS farming is fun and noit as game breakin as BB glitch....although it is clear the dvelopers did not mean for you to able to get all your CDS weapons maxed....but you can here:s how:
1. get world black...pure or one off may be enough...must see promeval demon who will drop the CDS's.

2.) trick is to keep each one alive as long as possible and only kill it when you are flipping into an invasion. First punch the primeval demon to get it down to enough health that you r stronest weapon will one hit it....I usually use northern regalia or lately BBS...but any upgraded weapon will kill it at low health after punching. Just don;t use greatswords oe other sow anuamtion or recovery animations...speed is of the essence here....
3.) press the invasion button black stone or whatever...I put it in hotkey (blue phantom works as well but often the demon's are in poor spots for coo-op).
4.) when the invasion hits you will see three flashes of 'invading' then there will be three flashes of 'moving to another world as a black phantom' Just after the 2nd flash of this second message kill the primeval demon and immediately press your stick into the center of the explosion while mashing x in order to get the cds. You will hear a sound that indicated the soul was recovered and immediately will be whisked away. When you try this err on the side of caution by waiting until just before the third flash....if you go too early the game will register the death and that demon will be dead forever. The worst that happens if you err on the side of being too late is that you just won;t get the cds that time but your demon will still be there for another shot.
5.) have fun invading...don't kill yourself by falling ooff or quitting...you will lose levels....good way to delevel if that's what you want though. the best scenario is actually that you lose fair and square to a host...you go right back to your spot near the demon. If you win you get restored and start at the archstone.
Clearly the best place to do this is 3-2...you get monk action as well as action in the swamp where it is fun to hide and if you know the routes better than the host it becomes an awesone cat and mouse battle...you can take the chain elevator back up and wait for the host just before the end of the level (at least let them get their checkpoint etc.) Only negative is it is a long way back if you happen to win...happens often as many noobs die just goign to the monk door...big wasstes of time....but worth it for eacH CDS. I think.

other spots are hit and miss for ease of use adn traffic...had a good run on 1.3 yesterday, and have had fun on 2.1 when my level was such that action there was plenty...has been sparse action in the past though. 4.2 is usually good action but the demon is on a ledge with mantas shooting you...must kill mants ..not an easy task...at least not for me with poor long range bow skilz. 5 is sparse for pvp and you will fall off yourself and delevel more often than engage.

Oh man thanks for that. That sounds awesome. I thought it would be like farming the lizards (save/quit method), which is no fun. But invading in the swamp or as old monk, that's fun. I totally forgot you lose a level when you fall off a ledge as an invader. I jumped off a ledge in 4-2 when I invaded and the host seemed like a noob/didn't want to fight. I guess I was the noob :p

Kinda want to start another SL1 on the american version to play with you guys.. I hate that there's only 4 character slots. I don't want to get rid of either of the 2 characters that I used to platinum the game :(

Alright, I cleared 1-4, killed the dragon and Old King Doran. That fight was very tight and awesome. It took me like 10 tries for my parry>repost work without any mistake.
Feel good man.

@2Adept & Sullichin: Only False King remains in my SL1 run! Please tell me if you need help somewhere before I beat it. I would also like to get the head wrap by fighting one of you with the Old Monk boss.

For sure...it seeems the only times we are on together though is on the weekend when it is early afternoon for me in West coast canada and evening for you in europe. Sullichin is a littel closer to you in east coast US but still similar problem as I usually play late which is even later for him. When I play on the weekdays I don;t get started until 10 pm afer my daughter gets to bed which is the middle of the night for you I think????!??

I'll be on in 10 minutes if anyone is still up!!! Daughter is getting heavy eyes with her kids songs as I type!

I understand completely, I'm in the same case and that timezone difference doesn't help.
I can stay late tomorrow so that we can play a little. After that I will try to beat the game.

BTW it's crazy, I got summoned 5 times by Old Monk at SL1 and now I have 5 head wrapping. Aren't there a level restriction for the summon or did I get lucky? Because there are a one player in particular who looked obviously a beginner.

I don't know about the level restriction for that fight, but there's definitely a lot of new people playing. I feel kinda bad for invading them... kinda. Are you only playing your SL1 character?
2adept that goes for you too, I have my blueblood sword now. But yesterday I fell into the water in 1-3 while invading and lost a level in faith so I can't use it again, lol.. what a strange mechanic

Having recently finished Dark Souls for the first time, I decided to do a melee-only replay in this. And damn, it's like playing it for the first time all over again. So far I've cleared 1-1, 1-2, 3-1 and 4-1. Going through it pretty quick with only 6-hours clocked. But the experience itself feels completely fresh.

Need to clear 2-1 & 2-2 so I can make the
meat cleaver using the swollen demon's soul
already managed to grab the purple flame shield and ring of flame resistance to prepare for that zone!

Also got the
Demonbrandt from the old king doran challenge
kind of useless without full white tendency though. Any tips for maxing it out? also I'm pissed
the old king armor is male-only, so sexist! can't even be bothered killing him because of that

I think they try to get ANY summoner/helper who is available to be the boss whenever possible...if you are online you have a shot to be the monk is my guess. You can get summoned as an invader or as a blue stone dropper as well, anywhere in the level and that's the only area that that can happen....so who knows? Obviously it s more fun to get the other player not the AI...I bet they try to match but if not...they will take any living breathing player over the AI. I will be home from work tomorrow afternoon (friday night for you I think) we can give er a go then?

obviously the northernregalia is the best way to upgrade but it is only good for NG+...the DB is as you noted best in pure white situations, Soulbrandt in pure black.

2adept that goes for you too, I have my blueblood sword now. But yesterday I fell into the water in 1-3 while invading and lost a level in faith so I can't use it again, lol.. what a strange mechanic

Currently yes but I will probably continue and level up that character for NG+. I think I will go for a magic/faith build for the first time and see what

I always drop my blue stone to be summoned by the Old Monk because I can go and do something else while I'm waiting. Using a black stone needs to refresh very often, so it's less convenient.

Okay for today, I think there are 8 hours difference between our time zones, so just tell me when you're planning to start playing so that I can manage my planning for tonight :)

Just beat 2-2 without dying. Surprisingly, despite my fears, the flamelurker went pretty smoothly with my purple flameshield + bastard sword +3 + regeneration ring + ring of flame resistance combo. Just had to time my blocks correctly and attack at the right time, that's not to say it wasn't a intense fight though, took me around 20-25 minutes to finish.:D

Just gave the red hot demon soul to ed and got him to make a meat cleaver using the Adjudicator soul, and whoa, this weapon is such a huge upgrade over my bastard sword, doing something like 200-300 damage a hit, so awesome!

finally got by colossus and monk on my SL one fatal dagger toon. Despite that a parry took more than half the health of old monk AI version, I still had trouble with the homing arrows...rune shield fixed that despite being under stat req.

All I have left now is 1-3, 1-4, and storm king.

yeah meat clever was my early favourite back in the day, but the great sword will beat it out eventually...way more range and even better damamge for a tank weapon. I still recall making my 'demon mage' character and using homing souls arrow with the moon greatsword flippin detryed shit...I think a tried a faith version as well....these beat out the meat clever for sure because the stat bonuses are more specific....but consider throwing cursed weapon on that baby for even more thrills...it willserve you well and it was the only thing that allowed me to beat black phantom selen vinland......and took a notch up on pvp.

The Demon was destroyed \o/

It took me like 50 attempts in 1-4 but I finally prevailed, alone!

Just did this myself the other day (Friday :p), baiting the AOE attack and then punishing it proved to be my key to victory!

I badly need to get a capture card, I'd love to do some Demon's challenge runs recorded. :\

My equipment:
- the default royalty armor
- Dragon Long Sword +5
- Wooden Catalyst
- Buckler +10 <- despite being terrible, it saved me many times
- Kris Blade+5
- Cling Ring
- Ring Of Magical Sharpness

If not killed by the boss, I got murdered many times by one of the Fat Ministers.
I was going give up at some point or wait for somebody to help me.

Nice going! Now I gotta beat him... damn you. Soul Ray is worth using on him?
Really I was sick of dying like 30 times in 1-4 before fighting him. I didn't even make it to Allant 90% of the time. The second red knight or one of the fat ministers usually meant the end of me. Now I'm inspired to try again soon. I was using pretty much the same setup but without the magic stuff, but I did try using warding a couple of times.

Soul Ray was my best ally during a good chunk of the game, it helped me a lot to go past some difficult situations.
It's always good to have it to make some free damage on the boss when he does his soul sucker. But be careful how you use it because you won't be able to react for 1 or 2 seconds during the animation.

congrats....I tried getting started on 4.1 but I still have to kill the black phantom chick at the start...she firestormed me twice while she was just about dead! Idid the mephistopholes for some strnage reason and now I can't change my magic...I got soul ray now one way or another! I thought about using the ring of maical nature to bring ignite....but too late now....all the magic changers are dead.

The fat ministers can fuck off in 1-4, I ended up just attempting to bait them and run around them but derped 90% of the time, that long range fireball sucks at times.

For the False King my strategy I guess was kind of cheap. Just rolled away from most of his attacks and got to distance and just kept backing away until he went for a AOE , ran in and smacked him in the face with a running R1 or R2, rinse and repeat. Getting away after that is what killed me 90% of the time, because he'll go for a lot of brutal up close melee and it isn't easy to get back away all the time. But eventually I got the rhythm and just rolled away from his counter attack, got some distance and punished the AOE. Took a while though.

Which BP chick are you talking about? I'm a little bit confused there.
You're crazy to do Mephistopheles quest during a SL1 run lol. At least you have Soul Ray, that spell will serve you well. Just use all the souls you have to buy as much Old Spice as you can.

Yeah these fuckin Fat Ministers are murderous mostly because of the narrow bridge and you dont have room to fight them properly.

As for Allant, I had to be patient. Every time he does his AOE attack I rush toward him and do 1-2 2H slashes with the long sword and get the fuck out. When he does the Soul Sucker animation, I dodge and attack with Soul Ray. Sometimes he gives you a couple seconds without doing anything, so I attack him and back up but I got owned many time doing that.

Hello, Demon's Souls GAF!
I'm assuming this is the most updated thread, as the last post was yesterday.

Anyway, just started Demon's Souls yesterday (beat Dark Souls over the weekend) and so far so good. Took down the Tower Knight and although I think I was pretty underleveled, my Dark Souls experience, combined with patience, awarded me the victory.

I'm trying not to go through with too much walkthrough help, but any beginner advice I should know? My class is Knight, I'm using the souls I'm collecting to beef up: END, DEX, & STR. I can already one-hand the Bastard Sword.

I decided to go to the Stonefang Tunnel after beating the Tower Knight and the difficulty ramped up a bit. Probably doing something wrong here, but my first day of playing was really just a trial/error run-through.
Summoned some white phantoms, but both must have been underleveled because they didn't last long at all. Got invaded almost instantly when I got into Stonefang and, like Dark Souls, the invader seemed pretty over-powered. Thrashed the hell out of me. :/

I've been playing some more Demon's Souls lately and reading the wiki. I have a question about an item.

I beat 2-3 and in the process I acquired the Dragon Bone Smasher. I read that it is only available in PWWT. But I didn't have PWWT (I'm playing offline).

Was this a fluke? Or is that an error in the wiki?

Even if you play offline you can have PWWTif you beat the bosses and didn't die.

You don't need full PWWT to get access to the DBS IIRC.

well, the Armored Spider in 2-1 demolished me.
Sprint up to her, get bombarded by various waves of fireballs, get sticky shit on me, and just got rocked. My hits did fairly good damage, but they were few and far between. Got sticky stuff on me again just before she does her big fire move, couldn't sprint away. DEAD.

Guess it's time to grind or something, considering how easily I got styled. :|
No helper phantoms around to summon either. None.

This game seems much more difficult than Dark Souls.
Is that the normal consensus?

I miss bonfires and estus flasks. ;(

The spider is piss easy with ranged attacks. Equip a bow ( get the compound longbow in 4-1, best bow in the game) , stay in the back of the tunnel , hug a wall and just keep firing those arrows. With a health regen item you don't even need to move or heal as the web attacks that might still occasionaly hit you do very little damage.

Melee is needlessly hard but if you insist, an upgraded Purple Flame Shield will help out a lot.

Demon's bosses have the potential to be harder than Dark's but there's an easy solution for all of them.
