Yeah I've probably only done a handful of NM Atheon kills. Mainly stick to HM. I like the look of the shader though and always wondered why I have never had it drop haha!

During the trailers, there used to be a meter for the next mote of light, but they removed it from the final build. The Phoebes gif that you quoted, that's from pre-release.

Is there any good starter guides around? I skimmed through the tips thing in the OP but that just said lots of words which I don't really understand :3

Just enjoy the ride for the moment and come back to the guides in the OP once you have played more / are nearing level 20.
You really can't do wrong in the game, the only advice you should follow is to start levelling up your vanguard reputation as soon and as much as possible, because you need to be rank 2 to buy armors and rank 3 to buy weapons.

You mean spec for armor in the sub class? That always matters even in regular crucible. Spec for full armor. Makes you survive trip mines unless they are directly stuck to you etc.
