Apparently you can hide under the platform thing next to the priest's capsule.

Yup! It's surprising how much damage you can take before you go down.

Yea Armor of Light is the perk I always use with my Defender class. I've thrown my bubble in the middle of 5 people and have had them melee me simultaneously and couldn't manage to bring me down while I killed all 5 of them.

Is Monte Carlo same, equal to, or better than Atheon's Epilogue? I have AE fully upgraded and I just finished the nightfall and received a MC as a reward.

Only 5? I once did it against 30 people and a shark. I didn't even take any damage.

There is a middle ground solution. It's called matchmaking for raids. Do what WoW does and have different tiers of raids. So, instead of the current Normal Raid->Hard Mode Raid that we have, you make it Matchmaking Raid->Normal Raid->Hard Mode Raid. Adjust the loot as required. Lower the difficulty enough for matchmaking raids that your average "bad" matchmaking player can successfully run it given moderate effort.

Was talking about this with some friends and we thought a better solution would be to do that, but to lock out matchmaking raid to those who haven't raided.

Any one who has raided the first time expressed the same sentiment that raiding with randoms would be a SHITSHOW and not fun.

However, as more and more people raid more consistently everyone kinda knows the strategies now. Add in voice chat like they are planning and a matchmaking raid might be a good idea.

But it should be reserved for the people who have gone through it before and know what to do. This way you can keep raiding but don't need to keep trying to find a group.

Matchmaking raid will still be a shitshow anyway though. Raid is simply too long to be able to do in one sitting without some random quitting out.

Also if Archon priest is the strike and arc burn is turned on.... RIP.

If Solar is turned on it might be more maneageable but the archon priest, the vex, and any captains are gonna ruin days.

I'd be more worried about the waves of armored Shanks during the boss fight than anything you mentioned.

Except you absolutely need a way for new people to get into raiding with the least amount of effort. You're going to see gentrification in raiding happen very quickly, very soon, as more and more players will begin asking for higher minimum levels (say, 28-29) and require experience with the raids. I guarantee this is going to happen.

As to the length of raid. Also an easy solution. Different wings for the different bosses. Tackle them one at a time.

I still haven't managed to get a legendary auto rifle. I've got Suros, but I like switching it up from time to time since you can't equip more than one exotic. I'll probably grab Shadow Price this week after I get to 150 vanguard marks. Is it better than Doctor Nope?

Over the weekend I finally hit level 26.

Right now my wall is item farming, but I think I'm getting over this game, I've got tired of replaying the same missions on strike. Only thing that I look forward is to play Clash.

But since I'm already 26, I feel I need to experience raiding, so I'll try to search this forum tonight to see if another 5 people can help me with the VoG!

I understand your point. I put a lot of hours into the game, and I appreciate alot that they put in high-level content though. The alternative, I think, would be for them to just not put in a raid. Or to replace the raid with some more low-level strike type activities. I like that there's a hard raid. I'm glad they put it in... But yeah people who don't put in the time are going to be mad that there is content which they can't access. I don't see a middle ground solution.

The raid and high level content is fantastic. Of course it should be there. The super core audience (many of those in the thread) need and deserve that content.

The middle ground solution is to have more mid level content.

Right now you have 20 levels that anyone can breeze through, and then the super high level stuff. There isn't anything in that middle ground.

Such a shame and a wasted opportunity for greatness. But that's Destiny I guess.

Beat the weekly strike solo earlier - pretty intense towards the end as I'm just at lvl 23 - but finally levelled up Vanguard rep to lvl 2 so I can buy some decent gear. So now I just need to grind out some marks? And some faction rep. Oh, and some Crucible rep...

Is Iron Banner gonna be like the queen as in its a "faction"?

I believe Iron Banner had its own faction reputation in the beta.

And then When randoms quit new people will get matchmaking into the middle of the raid. I don't like it. Half the time I'd get put into the middle of the raid I think. If you broke the raid up into pieces it's just turning it into three strikes. Then it's no longer a raid imo.

I finally finished leveling defender on my 2nd titan. Now to see if I can find a hard mode group this late in the week.

Looking for at 2-3 players to help with final boss of VoG normal this evening. Hopefully someone who knows what they are doing for the final boss and can help lead the group through the necessary steps. Im a level 28 sunsinger warlock. PSN ID is GreenyMac. Will be looking to get started around 6:30 or 7 eastern time. Just add me and Ill accept the request from the app and Ill be online to play this evening.

So I got my fourth Vanguard Mentor Missive last night. I've received one for Thorn, Bad Juju, Pocket Infinity, and Invective over the course of the last week. So much grinding random stuff, so little room for regular bounties. *sigh*

Not having raid matchmaking is silly. I've run the VoG 2x now, once with randoms from DestinyLFG and the other with my friends. Honestly, the time with randoms was easier. All you need to do the raids is having mics and someone who knows how to explain what to do. Does it require teamwork? Yes, but I don't think it's a reason to not have matchmaking. They just need to have drop-in in case of disconnects or quiters.

Most people will know it's long and be ready to run it. They could possibly require having completed it once prior to matchmaking, but I don't think that's necessary. Either way, there really is no excuse for not having matchmaking for any of the higher level stuff. Nothing in this game is hard skillwise, it just takes some decent gear and communication.

I wonder if they're worried about maintaining populations for higher level stuff. I could see having too low of numbers to maintain decent matchmaking times across Nightfall and VoG, but that's the only real issue I see that could arise.

To be honest, I'm kinda already at this point. If I'm joining a public team to do a raid, I'd rather not have any 26s in the group or anyone who hasn't done it before. It just drags it out if you keep wiping while the new people learn the encounter. Yesterday I did a raid where we continually wiped on last boss because the new people couldn't understand the concept how the encounter worked at all. HEY NEW GUY WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU AGAINST THE WALL AGAIN FOR THE 10TH ATTEMPT IN A ROW. WE NEED THE FURTHEST THREE TO GET TELEPORTED.

If people quit from your current created raids then the new people will join in, in the middle of the raid. So that is no different. And raids have been broken into wings forever. And yes, it's still a raid. If you wanted to go by actual MMO raid standards, than VoG is barely a heroic mode dungeon, in the amount of content that it actually has.

It IS different if they aren't given the option of starting from the middle of the raid, meaning if I queue up and it places me in a group that is 60% done with the raid, I'm just going to quit that group. A way around it is to allow the option to pick "new raid" or "continue from checkpoint X" when getting into the queue.

Hahaha I feel your pain.

I think we have to keep in mind that our experiences are not those of most Destiny players. While Bungie shouldn't not cater to their entire player-base, I can understand that their focus is broader than our segment of the player-base.

According to my PSN trophies:

  • Less than 10% of PS4 players have:
    • Attained Vanguard Rank 3,
    • Equipped full legendary/exotic armor and weapons, or
    • Fully upgraded a guardian subclass;
  • Less than 20% of PS4 players have:
    • Earned the maximum weekly Vanguard score;
  • Less than 30% of PS4 players have:
    • Obtained and equipped any exotic gear, or
    • Earned the highest tier of completion in 10 public events.

Heck, barely half of PS4 players have decrypted 25 engrams! 25!

I think the reality is that most people aren't playing the game the way we are-- not as fast, not as much, not as efficiently-- and so things that might stick out to us might not be apparent to them and visa versa. It certainly makes updating things interesting for Bungie in that they must try to balance the very vocal hardcore crowd with the "silent" majority of players playing much more casually.
