Destiny The Dark Below opening cinematic

you guys are being silly and not giving bungie enough credit. watch them surprise us and SHRINK some of the bad guys as bosses! bullet sponges with teeny tiny hit boxes, the new level of destiny difficulty.

I really don't care if they re-used models for the bosses, aside from the fact that it just seems incredibly lazy.

As long as the fight mechanics are interesting, I will be happy just shooting up a giant Knight.

On Guardian Radio they mentioned some rumors that during some section of the fight you'll have to hop on your Sparrow to escape the boss and outrun him. Sounded pretty cool. It actually makes sense that they would give every expansion owner a legendary Sparrow, so they can have everyone at the same speed for a chase sequence.

But the new trick sparrow feels very slow compared to my timebreaker.

Their base speed is the same though, I thought? The Xur'ified Sparrows are the fastest ones, currently.

That Tumbler would be better if was actually faster or, when you hit that button that lets you flip about, that it would also do a short boost similar to the Timebreaker's just so you can get some extra air in order to do more tricks.

Yup timebreaker is all about the boost. Don't have a xur sparrow ification.

Oh man, there is no pleasing people. Instead of getting excited about more content and stuff to do people seem to come in to this thread and shit on the game with out any remorse !

Its true, its cool to hate on this game as of this moment.

Feel sorry for these folks.

Please note, it looks like only people who do not play the game seem do that, while those that play it keep on soldering on and enjoying it for what it is.

Game's raids are the best thing ever and sucks for those who can not experience it. SMH

Get $5 PSN/XBL credit when you buy the Expansion Pass

Target is running a Buy One Get One 25% off promotion for PSN/XBL/Steam cards. So you can purchase $40 worth of cards for $35, then go to the digital store, buy the Expansion Pass and have $5 left over.

Not exactly a deal that will set the world on fire, but nearly every retailer has already posted their Black Friday deals and none of them involve the Expansion Pass or PSN/XBL cards. This is probably as good as it is going to get.

Welcome to every Destiny thread posted on NeoGAF after launch.

I got pissed off after not getting any Raid Gear after doing the normal one 3 times. Really got pretty grindy feeling after that, but I'm ready to jump back in after Dragon Age. Glad to see people are still enjoying it and the best parts of Destiny was indeed some of the most fun I've ever had on my PS4. Dunno what people were pissed about, but I used my PS4 the most the first 4 weeks of Destiny's Launch. Great games, just needs to get beefier.

This post...that avatar.

I put 115 hours into the game. I experienced the raid several times over and you know what? NO, it is not "the best thing ever", because once you complete it it devolves into a repetitive, hollow, soulless grind fest, just like everything else in the game. So kindly fuck off with the "I feel sorry for people who don't get it" bullshit. I've had plenty of time to let the experience sink in and I most certainly do get it: they propped their game up as something truly groundbreaking only to turn around and give us a game with the depth of a diorama.

People are hating on the game because it has earned it's fair share of shit. Bungie sold us snake oil, pure and simple.

I need to go ahead and order this, looks good to me. I'm still having good fun with this game and it's honestly the only game I play lately. New raid is gonna be great I'm sure, going in blind and figuring everything out like the first one.

Haha man i love the i played it 100 hours and the game sucks! Crowd. Play any game 100 hours that you dont love to pieces and it will make you crazy. Thats an incredibly high bar to set. Im 250 hours in myself and still love it but i still have the levity to understand playing any game more than 30 hours requires it to be something really special. Most games hold my attention for 10-20 hours max gametime.

LOL There's some pretty good reasoning behind it, to be completely straight with you. Virtually everyone I knew was getting this game day-one. Even people who were on the fence or vehemently against picking it up were swayed. Everyone was on the hype train. A lot of the guys who got it were hardcore MMO players coming from different guilds/raid parties. So when the various mechanics started to really "click" with them, they understood what they were in for.

Me, well I've drawn a hard line against ever getting into an MMO. I just want a really great co-op gaming experience that will keep me playing with my friends for hours on end. So that thirst, coupled with my friends getting roped into the MMO-like grind, kept me going because we were a solid group and we adhered to raid schedules and organized crucible groups. But eventually we all got sick and tired of the game laughing in our faces for putting in the insane amount of time that we did. Really, by the 4th time we completed the raid, I had received Atheon's epilogue for the FOURTH FUCKING TIME, people kept getting shafted, nobody felt like they were progressing...it was a waste of time.

The whole game gave us that one, big, final "fuck you" and we felt it. There's absolutely nobody who can argue the problems the game has, even the people who keep playing and a enjoying it. Objectively, the game is fucking bullshit wrapped in a pretty package with solid FPS shooting mechanics.

Had I known the game was gonna borrow so many of it's ideas from the MMO mechanics of the 90's, I would have bailed so hard on buying it.

But, stupid me, stuck with the digital edition and the DLC. But kool-aid drinkers can GTFO with their bullshit talk. That's not fair to anyone to make those kinds of assumptions.

I've put dozens of hours into the game. Do I get to criticize the game or do I not count since I've played it too long to act like its a bad game?

I played almost 300 on two toons and it sucks.

Level 29 hunter and level 27 Titan, tons of exotics, thousands of kills. The game became so repetitive that I had to give it to a buddy because it made me so mad. The gunplay is so good but everything else is bottom barrel, it's just sad.

It has a good hook, progression, but it falls short because of RNG. The raid is one of the funner parts but falls apart because of bugs that still plague it from day 1 (and Bungie continue to ignore).

Every day I want to go back, it has that sort of draw to it, but I can't take grinding anymore mats, doing the raid yet again and getting nothing, or doing Blind Watch four times Ina row on PVP.

Will I come back, don't know...maybe Destiny 2.

So you have wasted 300 hours of your own life playing a game that sucks having a sucky time? I dont believe you. This is a leisure item that makes zero sense to do that.

Anyone can say whatever they like. But playing a game 100+ hours then saying its not fun at all is bullshit. You arent forced to play and you know what happens when something stops being fun? It gets turned off. You arent being paid to play. Its a leosure activity and no way does someone force themselves through 100 hours and is not having a atleast decent time. Not to mention a game entertaining someone for 100 hours is an accomplishment in and of itself when most games struggle to even get people to finish the main story line.

Pretty much this. Oh you didn't play enough? Then your criticisms aren't legitimate. Oh you played it 100 hours? Then your criticisms are not believable because no way you can play a bad game that long.

Lose-lose either way.

Apparently during the production of Destiny, Bungie had an entire campaign's worth of story content, similar to what we'd expect from the studio and their track record with the Halo series. However, a decision was made during the game's production to split the story content in Destiny 1 across the entire trilogy, per the Activision 10 year deal.

They sliced up their game and gave us the "first act" of the trilogy, but I've heard what we ended up getting wasn't even that.

Sucks. =(

I barely liked Alien Isolation, and quit playing after news came out that it was going to be a 20-25 hour slog.

I thought Shadow of Mordor was bloated and boring.

I wish I had not spent money on either of those games.

But you know what I would do if there was a new trailer released for Alien or Mordor DLC? Or if there was a thread about a new demo of Alien or Mordor? I would do nothing and saying nothing. I sure as hell wouldn't go into the trailer/demo thread on NeoGAF thread to bitch and moan about the originally released game, ruining discussion for people who just want to talk about the content of the trailer, demo, or DLC.

It's gotten to the point where there can't be ANY thread about Destiny without half of it being people showing up to say what an awful game it is and how they hated it and how it must be selling terribly and blah blah blah.

That's what happens when a game is believed to be a massive disappointment by many people. This isn't a forum built only for positive remarks. If most people are disappointed with the game, that is going to affect how the game is talked about. I can be a 76ers fan and want to talk about them on a sport forum, but I can't whine when people say the team sucks.

Yup. It's kind of sad. That's why I usually just stick to the OT, and pop into these threads to see the content in the OP. It feels like GAF has a huge number of posters that want to jump into every Destiny news thread to remind everyone how disappointed they were with the original game.

Yes but thats not what happens here. You get bullshit hyperbole like the gem you posted the other day that destiny tricks your mind into believing you are having fun. Haha gtfo with that shit.

Sorry you don't understand simple psychology?

And I said destiny is designed to make people addicted to it. It follows a lot of known elements of human psychology to do so. I never argued everybody is playing the game compulsively.

Tales from... well you know.

There is a lot of stories like that going around. There is a lot of well informed speculation. The story director for Bungie left right towards the end of Destiny development. People have posted on Reddit claiming to be insiders... All of the facts are majorly covered by super secure NDA's so nobody is ever going to know in reality.

Actually i have a minor in psych from the university of texas at Austin so i do understand which is why i laughed at the post. Its ridiculous. Fun isnt something you can trick someone into with a game. Its either entertaining or not. Hence my post that people claiming the game is shit after 100 hours are full of it.

That rumor is from a supposed insider from Reddit. Nothing can be confirmed about what he said, but it's pretty bad that it explains why the story is as bad as it is.

I mean, I genuinely don't know how Bungie can argue with a straight face that the story in Destiny is the very story they wanted to tell and that was the best they could do and still feel like a company that can tell good stories.

Opinions bro.

At the end of the day, yes the game sucks. It is broken, relies on a crap RNG and I stayed around for friends and hoping the next drop from my random tiger strike I was doing to farm rep would be a legendary/exotic.

I fail to see why I can't play a game, have fun ,and then make an educated review where I decide that the flaws outweigh the fun/benefits and quit on my own terms. I loved the alpha, the beta, and was enthralled my first few times through VoG, but what I considered a 8/10 game quickly transformed to a solid 6/10 (riding on its fun gunplay and potential for its world/story.

I am not bitter about the game, I well got my $60 worth but until they fix the fundamental flaws (which entertainingly have been fixed by most big MMOs), I am "shelving it" and have no intention on putting more money or time into it.

Another odd post. Halo didnt even start really telling a story until the end of 2. Halos story has always been around the gameplay and really not a strength. Sure Destiny's is all time bad but saying Halos story was great or even good is imho not true. Its serviceable around the gameplay.

Destiny feels epic but there is no story yet. Your character is essentially a fast moving zombie of light. A slave even.

Super bummed they arent even raising the proper level cap.
Hooray I get to grind for more gear doing the same one thing over and over, once a week, hoping it drops or doesnt kick me out randomly.

I maaaaaaay be a bit salty that I stupidly bought the season pass and have completely built a bridge over Destiny. =\

So you are going to argue that giving out awards in such a pure random nature where you have basically no control of what drops where as opposed to having loot tables for areas is not related to the known phenomena of human psychology that you can more easily control with random rewards as opposed to predictable rewards?

Do other loot games do this? Yes. But loot tables allow you to control the possibilities a lot better.

I think you'd be hard pressed to name a game that got trolled this hard even months after it launched. Even the much-hated Titanfall and Watch_Dogs were able to have peaceful threads about DLC and DLC trailers. The Assassin's Creed Unity nonsense will probably blow over by the time that game gets its expansions as well. I don't see why it's so hard to get over it. You bought a bad game, move on to the next one.

That said, this mentality that states "A lot of people disliked this game, therefore we/I have the right to disrupt and derail threads that have nothing to do with qualitative evaluations of the game" is not a really compelling argument to me.

Bungie has always carried themselves as a company that wants to tell a story with their games. That's how they marketed both Halo and Destiny. If they're willing to admit that Destiny's story was garbage and that it was a disaster due to production issues, I'll buy it. But they've been pitching Destiny as a marvelous epic adventure.

I read people shitting on the trailer. People complained about the complaints. And here we are defending our complaints against the people complaining about the complaints.

I guess this is all content that was already finished and ready to go, which I guess is fine for the people still playing Destiny.

I hope the work which is now going on to make Destiny 2 in a few years has a completely different focus which accounts for the overwhelmingly negative feedback that Bungie has hopefully been receiving since the game's launch now.

I'm willing to give Bungie another chance in a few years but I'm done with Destiny. Let's see if they have taken feedback to heart for Destiny 2.

If rng was the most addictive for of entertainment everyone would use it. Its not. Its frustrating and causes people to quit. Its lazy. A coin based solid progression system keeps people playing longer and cuts down on rage. Its why most systems now are a mix of token and rng.

See all you had to talk about was loot tables but you did it in a invalid way.

Why does Crota have a sword? Didn't we have the best mission in the game to destroy it? Or did that not matter because Crota can just grab another one and still be as dangerous? Am I wasting my time trying to bring Desinty lore (lol) into play? Have I put more thought into it than Bungie? Is the opening cinematic before the sword was destroyed? Why did we destroy the sword then?

I haven't played Destiny in ages. Completely fell out of the rhythm when other releases started to show up.

Can you show us some evidence that Bungie is acting like the story in Destiny is "Shakespeare"? I haven't seen any...

Not Shakespeare but

Some people become addicted to it. Some people hate it and are driven away by it. It's no different than a casino. The lights, sounds, optimized odds, and general environment is designed to make you feel good losing money. Does everybody become addicted? No. Plenty of people play and leave when they're done being frustrated. But everything is designed to maximize the number of addicts. In Destiny, you're just gambling time instead of money. But I don't want to rehash this argument in an unrelated thread any longer.

No company would ever admit anything like that publicly.

I'm sure they'll speak out about all the issues (and how they intend to improve them in the sequel) when it comes time to start the PR campaign for Destiny 2.

Bungie was pretty candid about all of the cut content and production issues that plagued Halo 2. (Of course that was while they were under MS, Bobby Kotick and Activision might have them under crazy ass NDA's.)
