Destiny The Dark Below opening cinematic

I really like what little lore they have in the game but now that more games are coming out, I don't have the heart to go back and play any more let alone buy an "expansion". I was really enjoying Destiny and I'm sitting around level 16 but that may be where I stop.

I was feeling the same way, especially with me owning Shadows of Mordor, The Evil Within, Halo MCC, ACU and as of yesterday Dragon Age. With all of those games to play and to me what initially seemed like Destiny's small return based off my expectations, I stopped at level 15 and didn't think I was going back.

However, a bunch of guys at work are high level characters who love the game and that gave me incentive to start playing again. First off, playing this game with friends is immensely better than soloing everything. Secondly, once I hit level 20 the game gave me that same loot drive that Diablo does and all of the sudden I'm playing Destiny non stop. The only game that's broken my hours of Destiny play the last week has been Dragon Age.

That feeling of let me just do this one more task because maybe this will be the time I get that great drop has me playing for hours, and once you get one of those good drops
It's very satisfying. It definitely sucks that you have to force yourself through Destiny for hours until you hit 20, but once you do the game truly begins and that's where Destinys true beauty and joy stems from. Stick with it because for me it's been worth it.

Sweet. Need a lot more cinematics. I so need to get my warlock to 30 on PS4 and then to get him to that on xbone too. Need to find a good group to raid with on xbone though. Seems that very few have it on there.

That cinematic had a more gripping story than any part of Destiny that I've played (finished main campaign).

I'll probably grab it. Why not, I like how much the game feels like Halo.

Got out 3 weeks ago. Now that I am not hooked on the game anymore it's easy to see what a fucking scam this game is.

As long as this Raid boss ends being an actual fast, melee, scary as fuck boss fight... i'll dig this a LOT more than Atheon grinding.

A high end - high value - high level loot boss that runs at you and makes you're team move around whatever arena he is in instead of finding positions and dpsing a locked in barely mobile Glass Cannon (see that there???!!) will be a fucking breath of fresh air.

I decided weeks ago to give Destiny this first DLC as a mulligan. Future expansion purchases are kind of up in the air depending on whether or not Crota sucks balls or not.

I have the misforturne of owning the Digital Deluxe Edition so I'm playing this even though I don't want it.

The really flushed their rep with this game. Never again...

Looks like...

purrrfecto!

I hope it's worth it...

I really hope they use their brains when designing the raid loot tables.

No one should have to run the raid 20 times and still not have a pair of boots.

There are three story missions.

thanks, but i'm aware of that. just hoping that starting with dlc the games story will start being pushed a bit more to the forefront and become a bigger focus. of course this trailer doesnt really necessarily point towards this, just wishful thinking.

This is why wow finally started to give out tokens. I can't tell you how many raids I did in wow and still never got a piece I was looking for. That said I just hope that they include some gear that can be bought for vanguard marks that will raise me to at least 31.

Yeah that token system has been around for a long time. Very odd it was absent from Destiny.

Posted from other thread: I hope Eris sells level 32 quality raid armor. Make it some really long and hard grind to get, maybe reqire plenty of raid completions to get your rank up, and also give it out via RNG, but please give us some way to get it other than relying on luck of the roll. I am OK with all the weapons being completely RNG based. I have raid rank 2 and done lots of hard raids and still no Vex... But I don't want to have to wait week after week to reach 32 and have others just get it via luck and then have hard raid crews saying "sorry only looking for 32s."

Is there any way to get the Expansion Pass for a discount? I'm not seeing any Black Friday deals for the pass itself, or PSN money.

People throw the word scam around. How is destiny a scam? How have i been scammed into enjoying a game? I have plenty of new games yet i play destiny because i enjoy it. How is this a scam? You have free will. Dont like it trade it in or try the demo. You and everyone else had more of an opportunity to try out the game than any other console release before you bought it. If you got scammed maybe you need to look in the mirror and think about who bought it and makes decisions.

there were a lot more than 3 story missions in the base game and there wasn't ANY story there, so I'm not sure what this means

Yeah, exactly. I wouldn't hold your breath and hope all of a sudden Bungie pulls a decent coherent storyline out of their ass. The dlc is all about the raid for me, and the vault
of glass didn't have any real story outside of grimoire entries either so I don't expect this to be any different. Maybe a few extra story quirks in there with the new vendor spouting some story exposition instead of just the dinklebots.

Looking forward to tackling the new raid though, hopefully I can get the old VoG gang back together too.

They're taking a different approach this time around, but we'll see how it plays out. It's been described as a single narrative thread that starts in the Tower, runs through the three story missions and strike, and then concludes in the raid. Multi-part quests are part of the story, similar to some of the exotic quests.

I'm kinda glad I bought the season pass in the end. It does look decent enough, I hope I'm not let down.

The raid day one will be worth it alone though I think. Doing the original raid blind was a great gaming experience so I didn't want to miss out on the other two.

Except it's not just that. More likely it's just the first phase/form. I hope its other forms take a serious departure from what we've seen so far in terms of enemy design.

I like Destiny a lot, but the game doesn't have a single boss that isn't made up of re-used character models. I would not get my hopes up for them to deliver a unique boss in this raid.

Yeah, and I don't know about that. When we first heard that exotic quests are how they're trying to do their storytelling...oof. They're just collections of fetch questions/bounties, rolled into one.

I hope they actually have a narrative running through them now.

Yes, they'll need story and events to tie them together, but they've specified that as a mechanic to deliver the story, so....we'll see. It has potential but the execution of quests/patrols in the base game is very basic. I'm hopeful as they've at least acknowledged the problems and are trying something different.

thanks for sharing this. was wondering this morning if we had any word on bungie being aware of the fact that the story was lacking and that a large amount of the player base would like to see that addressed.

The structure of the story in this expansion is different than the story in the core game. Looking at how the story plays and how we wanted to repackage it and reacting to fan feedback, we're taking a different approach to the story in this one. So it's going to be driven in a very interesting way for players, as you meet with Eris in the Tower and follow her guidance through the story.

sounds like a step in the right direction at least. i'm excited

It's definitely one of the weakest points of the game. You have a bigger Vandal as a boss on Earth, Sepkis Prime is another huge version of an enemy, Atheon is a bigger Minotaur while Templar is a bigger Hydra. It's as if they simply ran out of imagination while designing the game,

I've been meaning to ask this, why does this count as an Expansion Pack, while Minerva's Den or something counts as DLC? Does it just depend on what the developer/publisher calls it, or is there an actual difference?

Makes it sound bigger than it is so you can feel good about paying $20 for it

So will this have matching making for a team of 6 or will we have to organize a group of 6 like before...still havent played a raid yet with friends thanks to this. Cant even experience the game properly.

I think it's a safe bet that it won't have matchmaking since Bungie have said it was a decision to not allow it for Nightfalls and Raids. What system are you on?

The Raid/Nightfall thread can help you out and people are also always looking for teammates on the Destiny OT on the Community side. It seems like most of those are on PS4.

And there are solutions like DestinyLFG where you can group up but I think Gaffers are more reliable.

I'd be happy to go with you next week (already ran it twice this week) if you're on PS4. It's the best part of the game and easily my favorite multiplayer experience in a long time.

Looks great, hoping there's some variety in the missions this go around. Regardless I'll be jumping back in and hoping this can hold my attention for a bit cause I kind of burned myself out on Destiny over the launch month or so and there's so many other games that have recently come out that I have to put serious time into as well. Still pretty hyped and thought the cinematic was quite solid.

1. Go to the Raid Clan thread on NeoGaf
2. Post when you want to raid and how many spots you need.
3. Raid

No matchmaking or any help along those lines is a god awful design decision that needs to go away, but getting a raid together isn't too hard.

I only mentioned the whole "first phase/form" thing because Urk said as much earlier in the thread.

Quoting again:

We can definitely scale standard enemy types, and do, but for special encounters the team creates new geometry, shaders and effects, encounter mechanics, sound effects, etc.

What you're seeing in the prologue is one of Crota's forms. We'll have some more info dropping soon, but we'll be pretty tight lipped about the Raid and Raid boss for obvious reasons.

My best guess:

First Form: Giant Knight
Second Form: Giant Ogre
Third Form: Giant Wizard

It's cool to know that the fight will probably have multiple phases though. Atheon just has you repeating the same motion many times in a row.
