Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Anyone on Xbox One in the 240 light range available to help me with yesterday's daily heroic mission (Oryx)? I really wanted the 10 legendary marks so I started it up solo before it switched and uhhh, I've gotten 99% plus through the last fight but I can't quite make it, and the checkpoint kind of screws you.

Granted a lot of the deaths are idling deaths... but a lot aren't. I bit off more than I can chew. Send halp!
I'm 99% sure it won't give you any Marks btw. Daily/Weekly activities you stay in past their reset can be completed but offer no rewards if I recall correctly

It took me awhile to figure out how to aim the Nightstalker bow, but it really feels awesome now.

Nightstalker bow makes we want to switch back to default controls from Jumper. I've never had a problem jumping and aiming until now. Switching was a mistake!

I'm about to buy TTK and I already have destiny + season pass and I haven't installed it on my new 2TB HD. How much download am I expecting? Installing the disc + 2 expansions AND TTK?

Pretty much. TTK itself is 18gb, but that might actually include all data for the previous 2 expansions due to the 2.0 patch restructuring everything.

So i'm just popping in here after reading another thread on another site, is it wrong for me to go to best buy, buy the game with GCU for $48, go to my car, take the code out, go back inside and get $35 in game credit ... and use code at home or on the ps app? Since I have the digital version at home.
Oh shit, I'll be doing that.

Honestly? i'd do that if I thought about it before selling destiny months ago, you're not taking it back for a refund but using their trade in system so there's nothing wrong with that at all.

Being able to trade in TTK legendary edition is something a lot of places may stop doing soon because it's pretty much destiny 1.0 on the disc without the included codes, so do it while you can.

It's true. I did it with my legendary helmet to make it 255

Hold the phone! Now THAT is extremely good news.

I rejoined yesterday after being a lapsed year 1 player, though I did return briefly a month before TTK launched to get my character up to level 30. I had the joy of getting my first ever exotic engram (Monte Carlo?) from my year 1 bonuses, only to have it immediately outclassed by a year 2 green drop. Well played, Bungie, well played.

I think the Legendary edition is a decent deal, though it did seem to support my decision not to buy Expansions 1 & 2 on release. I completed the grand bulk of The Dark Below's content in around an hour and a half. I can't believe Activision had the cheek to charge £20 for that.

Got some Crucible items in my inventory as part of the year one gifts (they give you reputation or something?), but no idea how to actually use them.

Don't dis the Monte Carlo. You automatically have access to the Year 2 version now at the Exotic Kiosk and even the Year 1 version will be good enough to get you through 90% of the content that's in the game, including great success in the crucible.

Uh guys....is it true you can infuse stuff with blues and not just legendaries?????

https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/3l52rc/you_can_also_infuse_legendaries_with_higher/

Cause that basically just changed the entire "omg my legendary marks" game.

It's definitely not the best implementation of the system.

This is great news. I was curious if this was the case because the in game infusion description says, "similar rarity" not "same rarity" You probably just can't use greens to infuse purples or blues to infuse exotics, if that ever is an option.

One change I'm surprised hasn't made it into TTK. Why haven't Bungie changed Wizards into Witches? It makes so much more sense seeing as they're all female!

I'm an idiot.

I picked this up last night from Best Buy, got home later in the day, opened it in, and popped it in my PS4. "Disc Not Supported" flashed. I sighed and worried that my PS4 was acting up until I removed the disc and saw I had somehow bought the PS3 version. I must not have been thinking at all when I went in to buy it. :\

I know Best Buy only exchanges opened items for the same one, but does anyone know if they'd let me exchange it for a different console version? I just bought it last night and still have the receipt.

It's the first time I've ever bought the wrong version of something. Dunno what I was thinking.

Jesus. You pay like $52 or so after tax, and get back $38.50 for trading it with GCU. So you spend around $14 for TTK. Nice.

Being played the vanila iteration of the game and seeing how its gone to now as the final version... I am happy the approach they have taken now with the leveling up and all... but i also wish that this was the original game to begin with....

and i am certainly not going to buy this game again... and i hate bungie for it...

Man I feel like I'm not the targeted audience at all but I want to play this so bad. Such a suckere for sci-fi and loot games >>.

can someone just give me a quick overview of what 'the taken war' endgame is after youve done the new campaign?

what kind of activities are you doing? same stuff like strike playlists and the like? dailys? But with new content? or is it more than that? or just more options?

Infusing year 2 exotics already is an option. And I wouldn't be surprised if blues work for them, too.

How do you perform infusions? n00b guide please.

Items that can be infused, which currently applies pretty much exclusively to Year 2 legendaries and exotics from what I've seen, have a "perk" called Infuse. This allows you to sacrifice a more powerful piece of gear to increase the power of the one you're infusing. Say, you have a nice exotic and you get a higher power blue weapon, you can then pay to Infuse your exotic to get the blue's stats.

At this point Armor Materials/Weapon Parts should be universal. Glimmer has been that way forever so they clearly have a way to do it.

One type of armor material is good enough... I don't mind needing to dismantle weapons for weapon parts, and armor for armor parts... it is only logical.

Infusions are easy

Use any items that occupies that same slot to upgrade a weaker item to a higher level

The item you sacrifice must be stronger that the one you want to infuse

So what is the strongest item tier you can get and how do you get it if not by infusion? Technically you can't infuse something to the highest tier unless you already have another item of the max tier, right?

Um. Then why are you not the target audience?

Because I play mostly solo or with randoms, and from everything I've heard this game is best suited to people with alot of gaming friends. I'm also a family man now so don't have as much time to dedicate to gaming anymore (though I heard strikes can be done in 15-20 minutes which I can work with.) :x.

Your drops will scale with your Light level. Like, say you're Light 200, you may be able to get 210 drops, then when you're 210, maybe 220. Eventually, you're going to be getting stuff that's more powerful than the "standard" for exotics and vendor legendaries etc. At that point, you can infuse items you've grown attached to in order to keep them up to par.

I don't think we know the current max light, but I've seen mentions of missions/strikes or whatever that are rated for 350.

I only did the story part up to the Nathan Fillion part and can already tell it's infinitely better from a story telling perspective. THIS is what I expected with vanilla Destiny, so good. And Nathan Fillion is the fucking man.

Same here, played the first 3 missions.

Loving it, so good.

And now we know you can also infuse Blue (Rare) items as well, right?

You can definitely sacrifice blue items. That is, you can use them to infuse Legendaries and stuff, when you get more powerful ones. I haven't seen anyone claim you can actually Infuse a blue yet, but I'm level 39 on my Hunter right now so I don't have any 40 blues to check for the option myself.

Edit: Also I'd like to point out that the TTK symbol isn't actually necessary to be able to infuse, at the very least in the case of the Frontier Shell ghost. It can be infused despite not being a Year 2 item. However, no other Year 1 item I've checked has allowed for it. And there are things like the TTK CE exotic class items that are Year 2 but cannot be infused.

That looks/sounds awesome....

Hadium chests are new with TTK right?

The chests in the new patrol zone provide Hadium, yes. There are three versions of the sword, as well, one for each element. You're limited to choosing one per character, though.

From what I've played it's been old areas with new enemies excluding the strikes.

Sorry if it has been mentioned already (or sometime ago, didnt keep up with the collectors edition pricing debacle), but I find it ridiculous that I can't buy the taken king seperately. I bought the vanilla game without the season pass, and never bought the dlc's because they were so underwhelming. Now I cant buy the TTK because it requires the previous two expansions. So my next option is to buy the legendary edition which also includes the base game which I already f*king bought. Maybe it is just me, but I refuse to pay for stuff twice. Shame, liked almost everything I saw and was genuinely interested in buying TTK.

What is even more infuriating is that the vanilla game is now pretty much obsolete. You can't equip the new gear. You can't buy anything at the ingame vendors. You are restricted to 1 super easy strike playlist. Crucible playlists are in hoppers (so you can no longer choose beteween control/clash etc.). Actively taking content away which I was able to play before. Despicable IMO

Edit: I live in NL, eu

Basically what I want to find out is if I can realistically reach endgame stats without having to raid. I'm guessing the highest level equipment will be bound to the raid as it has always been.

Loving the expansion. The practically changed everything and with the Taken...taking over lol...even old stuff feels a bit new again.

They did good for the story Cayde-6 is awesome now and I guess Bungie finally learned than on a game with a 'mute' protagonist that is character created focusing and giving more to do to the supporting cast works.

I also get why the change to the light system and I feel like now it matter s a lot more than before.

I just would like to know where I can get more legendary marks since there seems to be some kind of limit.

The highest light gear may still end up being raid exclusive, yeah. Though they could go another route and focus on the other aspects of the items from raids.

We're unlikely to know how this will work out until someone reaches what we could consider a cap though, since now it seems to just be getting higher through normal progression from what I've heard.

If you have the disc and live in the US, gamestop is running a $20 trade in promotion toward the $60 legendary edition of TTK, so that gets you TTK plus all expansions for the $40 price you want. Otherwise you can probably just wait for TTK legendary edition to go on sale in the next few months, wouldn't be surprised at a $40 sale for Black Friday or Christmas.

edit: just curious, how would you deal with the multiplayer playlist issue? Keep all playlists from Vanilla and duplicate them for TTK owners, and just leave Vanilla users with long match search times since most active players are probably picking up TTK? I gotta say I'm not surprised at non-DLC owners being locked out of playlists as the same thing happened with Halo, I remember buying Halo 3 and being limited to BTB and a few others until I got all the DLC.

If your vanilla purchase was physical (and you live in the US), you can get the TKK legendary edition at gamestop for $40 by trading the vanilla disc in for $20 credit.

Other than that though yeah, it's a pretty shitty model/pricing scheme.

I'm a player who stopped playing when the first dlc arrived. Please help me make sense of what new currencies I should be grinding and what activities I should be prioritizing. I'm not interested in old gear unless its viable in year two.

Iron Banner and Crucible are going to have some very good stuff. Raid tier stuff will always be a little bit more "special" (like an elemental version of a primary instead of the normal kinetic version) but in terms of light level and equipment you should be able to get fairly close without ever having to step foot in a raid, especially if you can do the weekly Nightfall.

That being said, over time the raids get easier and quicker simply because the playerbase is growing in power and figuring out how to do them. Don't be surprised to find yourself eventually doing a quick raid somewhere down the road if you decide to stick with Destiny.
