Destiny will continue to have paid expansions/DLC (Read OP)

I'm surprised by this because they haven't told us anything about DLC3 and DLC4 yet... and there was no Year 2 Season Pass... once the micro-transactions showed up, it started to make sense. But now it doesn't...

No way we are getting DLC3 in Dec or Jan...

What I do know is that--unless something has changed in the past month, which, sure, anything's possible!--there will be no paid expansions until fall 2016.

What? So when the hell is Destiny 2 coming?

I'm kind of OK with that. Judging by the scale of the overhauls done with the Taken King, they probably had their whole team focusing on that. If they push out a DLC for Dec/Jan, it would end up being something the size of The Dark Below, and the player base would throw another (albeit justified) rage fit over it. I'd much rather have them send out 1 larger DLC in Feb/March than get some half finished DLC that makes everyone feel like they were ripped off.

I thought it was pretty clear this was replacing what you would have gotten In a season pass, those 15-20 dollar expansions. WOW still has major expansions even with a subscription.

Notice there's no Taken King Season Pass...?

And does Destiny 2 really count as an expansion?

So were getting quests and missions till Destiny 2? I have to say, if this is it for this Destiny game, what a gigantic disappointment it was.

Come on, how much you of one game can you play a year, seriously? even a casual would be bored to tears of just one game for a whole year, especially with the limited shit you can do.

I'm glad I didn't bother with Ttk, insane price for an expansion, the best thing about the game was the raid, paying 40£ for one raid is just insanity, when other games offer decent dlc or expansions (see throne of Bhall) at a reasonably price.

They overcharged for the first dlcs which were mediocre at best and then decides to double that price for Ttk. I hear Ttk is great and maybe I would have if was cheaper but no fuck that shit. It's cheaper to buy Ttk with the base game with tdb and how than just the Ttk dlc. Now with MT bollocks, won't be long until they start selling weapons etc.

Will wait for destiny 2 one year after its launch before I buy into this franchise again.

Ive played it pretty consistently for a year. Nothing could really tear me away even Witcher 3 really didn't hold my attention. I used to spend 30-40 a month gaming now I spend half that on destiny.

When I played wow it was more expensive than destiny as well. People that call destiny a poor value just don't enjoy the game. And that's fine but for those of us that do you should have enough perspective to see the value that is there.

I dunno, the bigger parts of GW2's living story could be compared to the contents of Destiny's season pass; some of it was filler, yeah, but there were expanded versions of existing areas with new bosses and activities, which is roughly what I'm expecting from the live team in the coming year.

GW2's graphics are leagues behind Destiny as well as its gameplay is also far simpler than Destiny. That's what I meant. The production values of destiny make its content harder to produce. I own GW2. It's not even in the same ball park.

I can play angry birds for just as long as last of us.

I don't value them the same.

This is a terrible analogy. You're comparing a moble game to a triple A game and trying to discredit my value proposition of destiny by doing so. Of course someone won't value a $3 mobile game the same as AAA content and yes people have differing opinions news at 11.

Fuck you Activison and you too Bungie for being complicit. Just have to get every cent you can out of you customers huh? Goddamn I'm glad I got off the Destiny train.

Ive also played Destiny since launch and i have to say, only reason i kept going back was because its the only console shooter that does what it does period. Having a persistent cooperative world where you can drop in drop out without problems. No one else does that on console. But that in no way gives the game any "value".

The expansions were all disappointing, even TTK. They release a new expansion and remove events, quests and bounties from the previous ones. Not to mention how quickly youre repeating stuff. How is this good value in any way? This game is terrible value through and through but has the luxury of being the only one around on console doing what it does. Thats why people kept going back. Destiny needs competition so like that, it'll give Bungie the kick in the ass they need to give us actual value.

I'm discrediting your assumption that hours played directly translates into value.

Just because you can repeat content over and over and have it add up to 50 hours of gameplay despite it being only 20 minutes of unique content does not mean it should be valued at 50 hours of content.

And that applies to all games, AAA/indie or mobile. Replay value is different from content value and what they sell you is content, not the ability to replay said content.

I suspect that this may end up being a situation like World of Warcraft, where Bungie ends up with such a massive headstart that nobody can really ever catch up. It will be at least Fall 2016 before a serious competitor arrives in the form of Borderlands 3, and by that point Destiny will have evolved yet again.

If I am playing content over, if I am playing content at all, I am enjoying it. No one is forcing me to play said content. And if I'm enjoying myself that equals value. And I've played destiny more than any other game. That's equals more value.

The design of destiny allows the game to have far more value than others. Under your definition a shit game with tons of crap in it that takes longer to complete is better value than a game designed correctly to maximize its content that is there. This is wrong.

Isn't The Division supposed to be a serious competitor?

Yeah but like Halo CE and Halo2 who also had a huge head start on console MP gaming, eventually the others caught up and some even surpassed them. It wont happen right away, but there will be games that come along that will do this just as well, if not better. Its only a matter of time and thats what we need.
