BOOOOOOOHHHHHH this man.
cant help it if i'm the only one in this thread with taste :O

first season was the only one that felt like it had a solid arc. i never read any of the books, so i cant use those as a comparison, but i couldn't force myself to finish the last season (also season 2 was schizophrenic and not so great)

I don't think they'll ever have a season that topped the first for me. But it's because it was fresh and new, and every episode almost always showed a killing from dexters past. Plus the ice truck killer plot was too damn good.

But I still loved each season after. And I can't wait for this one. Even though I know Dexter can't get caught for the sake of the shows longevity, I get tense as fuck every time. And I love that.

John Lithgow is fantastic casting, it has to be said. My interest went up tenfold when I saw he'd be cast as Dexter's 'rival' this season. :D I already have in my head the possibilites of he and Dexter sharing some twisted banter about techniques and whatnot.

I'm not so sold on the "exhausted from the baby" angle, but I'll see where it leads.

Even with a baby thrown into the mix (something that causes a lot of good shows to jump the shark), I can’t imagine this season will be anything but awesome — Lithgow is God.

Even after the fantastic season 3, I was skeptical because of the baby, but that trailer sold me again. My favorite show on television, back in two months. I can't wait.

The baby stuff will be awesome. Dexter himself was probably at his most interesting when he had to truly play a balancing act between his murderous urges (and his acting on that) with being a regular Joe with a girlfriend (who has kids).

Now that he's a father with a baby, that contrast is going to be even more defined and interesting, because he has to somehow balance out being a vigilante serial killer with being a father to a biological son. Not to mention dealing with John Lithgow's crazy ass.

It's going to be fantastic.

Rita was the one that really pissed me off last season. She's way too naggy.

Can you really blame her?

Obviously the first season is always going to be the best. It was fresh and his adversary is hard to top. As far as serial killing goes, it's prime Dexter.

But the great thing about the other seasons is they've had Dexter progress. His character has actually grown. He's been put in situations where he is out of place. His character is just as interesting but in a completely different way from season 1. Some people just aren't going to like that.

I look forward to season 4 more than any show right now.

Hope it is much better than the horrible season 3 and i think it will be. The show has just been missing something ever since they
killed doakes

Rita also really pissed me off last season but i used to love her or rather loved seeing dexter with her and his double life. I think he will end up getting fired in this season.

He goes by Jonathan now? :O F the haters, I loved season 3. :D

Well, she basically knows Dexter killed her ex so ya know, nagging happens.

I still need to see season 3. When will it be on Netflix?

DVD Releases usually fall right before the start of the next season, so I'd imagine sometime in late September.

Can't wait for S4.

Looking forward to S4. S2 was a bit of a mess imo (but still decent), and S3 brought it back to form. Trailer looks promising, although I almost think it reveals too much.

what episode of Lost is that line in?

jk

..maybe

Looking good...although I gotta say, the whole parenting bit feels kinda campy. Adding Lithgow to the cast sounds fun...i first knew him from movies like Ricochet and Cliffhanger where he played as villains, before he moved on to do 3rd Rock so i guess to me this sounds like he's returning to his roots, heh

it will be hard to top the Doakes/Dexter dynamic. if anyone can get the job done, It's Lithgow

Cant wait. S1 is much better than both of the other seasons, which are still very good though. S2's first 2/3 was rocking my socks, but I felt the whole thing went off the rails badly in the end. S3 was good because of Smits and Hall playing off eachother, but it didnt feel as fresh as the first seasons.

Overall, S1 >>>>>>> S3 > S2 for me. Still cant wait for S4. Hopefully Californication returns the same night!

I want to watch this so bad but I haven't seen season 3 yet. August 18th needs to hurry up and get here. I loved season 1, enjoyed season 2, and can't wait to see season 3.

Now it's time to back out of this thread before I get spoiled somehow.

it's not even just that though, even since season 1 where she got over her "issues" she's been an annoying/boring character. Now when I watch the show I hope she does something that falls into "Harry's code" so Dexter can off her :lol

I agree with you again. I heart you.

Heck yeah, can't wait. :D

I just got done watching season 3 on demand, enjoyed it like I did the first two. The rooftop scene with Smits/Hall was an awesome confrontation. Season 3 started a little slow, but I thought it gained steam as it went along.

Anyone reading the Dexter books the show is based off? If the show diverts from the books I'll pick them up, but I don't want to read a carbon copy of what I have already watched.

Hooray! I love Dexter!

I agree with this completely. Season 1 has been the best, but I don't know why soo many people are shitting on season 3 when I thought season 2 was the weakest of the three.

I havent read the books, but I know that S1 followed the first book, while S2, S3, and presumably S4 and S5 are their own thing.

Oh come on. I love The Wire as much as the next guy, but this is precisely the hyperbolic bullshit thrown around by its fans that irritates people.

ZOMG Media Blackout!!!!!!

Love Dexter. Best show on television next to Family Guy, American Dad, and soon The Cleveland Show.

Fall is going to be wonderful.

Read the first book, it sucked fuckin ass compared to the show. Didn't bother with the rest of the books but yeah book 1 was like season one with a different ending. (actually more was different but no need to go into it)

Am i the only one who loved season 2 ? My favorite season yet with all the shit going on.

Really ?! I loved the first season and thought the book was just as good. The third book however is horrible.

Looks pretty good imo. Although I think the first two seasons are the better ones, season 3 had its moments too. I don't think any of the seasons were bad, so I'm looking forward to this one. Hopefully it gets the show back to season 1 territory.

Looks like more of the same which is awesome. :D

My fiance got me into it recently and Showtime had all the episodes on demand so we watched them back to back over a couple weeks and now it's one of my favorites. Dexter and Deb are both awesome characters and I think Deb is one of the hottest female characters I've seen on TV in a while.

Season 2 gets a lot of hate due to the ending but personally I think it's really close to S1 in quality. The Dexter/Doakes stuff was so intense.

If
Lithgow needs to know the ending
, I'm calling
he's related to Dexter or Harry somehow.

That guess could tie in with
Debra looking into Dexter's mother's past.

Looking good. I think this is going to blow season 3 away. But I hope that its not around for much longer maybe 6 Seasons max or 7...just no more.

On a side note the author of the books is writing another one due out the end of this year according to wikipedia.

Well, the preview does reveal that Lithgow was in Miami 30 years earlier. I kind of doubt they'd go the blood relations way again, but I can see some other way of having their histories cross.

I just blazed through the first three seasons with the gf. I honestly have not been griped by a show like that since The Sopranos.

The show is written/directed so well that I really feel what Dexter is feeling and it would actually make me feel quite anxious at times while watching. Not a lot of shows or movies can do that!

Everyone should watch it! Can't wait for season 4!

Such a great post, captures my feelings exactly. Too bad for the favre av... ;D

Awesome, Lundy is back? John Lithgow could be an incredible addition, and I really enjoyed the trailer as a whole.

And I agree with the folks that didn't like season 3 as much. Got better towards the end but was easily my least favorite of the three. Here's hoping four brings it back up.

I think my favorite thing about this show is the writing. The inner monologues Dexter has to himself while putting on a facade to fool all those around him. The character really is a genius.

Also the show is so dark and funny it's right up my alley :lol :lol :lol
