Do You Think Halo 2 Will Sell Loads of Xboxes?

It is undoubtably going to be one of the best selling games of the year, and may even convince a hundred thousand or two to sign up for Live...but is MSs biggest game of the year really going to convince any large amount to go out and buy an Xbox if they haven't bought one for Halo already? Please, no trolls.

Yes, I think it's selling them now, and will after, even if people aren't into FPS (and don't purchase Halo 2), in the US many times word-of-mouth hype carries things...

edit: expect a similar, on a smaller scale, type of thing to happen with Pikmin 2, it's the title carrying Nintendo into the holiday season and should prove very popular...

I think it will have a significant impact.

There's plenty of userbase without an Xbox in US and Halo 2 with the advertising blitz that will accompany it should have a significant impact on the Xbox sales.

So do price drops. ;).

My bet is that everyone looking forward to Halo 2 already owns a Xbox and the original Halo.

So, nope.
I agree, although it might sway some PS2, PC or GCN guys to get one.

Think of Halo2 as Vice City is to GTAIII... it will smash Halo sales, dramatically increase XBL subscriptions, and sell shitloads of consoles.

:lol that has to be a joke.... right?

and yeah, halo 2 will move xboxes and live subscriptions. its going to be a HUGE title this year

It will definitely sell a lot of Xboxes around the holidays. Judging by the gulf between PS2 and Xbox hardware sales in the U.S., there are still many casual gamers out there that don't have an Xbox... And if there's one Xbox game they've heard of, it's Halo.

Halo 2's hype and marketing campaign during the Holiday season will drive some new console sales, especially if Microsoft wisely sets up a Halo 2 package deal.

To a limited degree, but not nearly as much as say GTA did for PS2's. Most people who are truly dying for Halo 2 own an Xbox already. It will definitely move a number of them, but it isnt going move as many as a number are expecting I dont think.

Yes, and this is further shown with the number of reservations.

that's what I don't get, Halo isn't the only console exclusive game comming out this fall.

Though I'm sure it'll be the xbox's best holiday yet.

In a world where Halo 1 had to carry a console for more than a year.

or 3....

that said, I think Halo 1 and Halo 2 sales will be about even with each other around 9-12 months after release, but Halo 2 might have more lasting power because of online multiplayer...

In what world would Halo 1 outsell Halo 2. Halo 2 looks 5 x improved and online. *shrugs*

In a world where Amped 2, Rallisport 2, Project Gotham Racing 2 sold a ridiculous amount lower than their respective non-online prequels. Not that I actually think Halo 2 will bomb like the previously mentioned titles though.. but I'm not entirely sure it's going to do ~3.5 million in the US with the Xbox 2 only a year off.

I predict around 3.5m worldwide, it depends on what happens next year with Xenon.

and have people forgotten the first year of xbox ?

Halo drove the xbox sales for almost a year, there was nothing till Splinter Cell.

how much did rsc2 sell? i was under the impressin that its sold pretty well, certainly better (at least so far) then the first. can anyone provide numbers for both?

I believe less than 25% of the Xbox userbase actual own copies of Halo. Halo 2 will probably do better than Halo. And will Halo 2 sell consoles? Most definitely yes.

Xbox sales will get a boost, but I think people are overestimating the game's impact. There are lots of big exclusives on PS2 this fall as well, and a lot of casual gamers will be happy just playing those rather than going out and buying another system for Halo 2.

this christmas will mark the true beginning up the uprising. right now we are in the pre stages with MS nipping at the heels of PS2 sales in the US. as far as halo 2 selling alot of xboxen, i say YES. where will this come from? I say the hardcore PC goons that have been holding off because nothing will ever match a PC.

No, I do not think that it will. Will it push some consoles? Of course, to the degree of an 800lb. gorilla? Unlikely. The PS2 has MGS3, GTA:SA, GT4, the GC's exclusive heavy hitters are Echoes & RE4, (possibly) all titles obviously cannot be purchased.

PC gamers have bigger and potential better things coming this year then Halo 2. ;)

Yes, Halo 2 will sell loads of Xboxes. This fall will be interesting. MS plannes a giant marketing campaign for Fable and Halo 2. It will be fun to see how Sony will act with GT4, GTA:SA and MGS3. I'd say this fall is all about PS2 and Xbox. The Cube has nothing to stand up against those titles. By this I mean mainstream appeal and so on, not how good the game is. Cause we all know good games dosen't sell as good as bad ones *looks at Driv3r*

It will sell "a lot" of Xbox Live subscriptions. At least this is where MS is aiming at.

Anyone who thinks Halo 2 won't sell Xboxs like hotcakes is clearly living in denial.

and anyone who thinks GTA SA, GT 4, MGS 3 won't sell PS2, or anyone who thinks Resident Evil 4, MP Echoes won't sell GC's is doing the same thing

what's your point?

XBX RALLISPORT CHALLENGE2 $1,720,862 34,910
XBX RALLISPORT CHALLENGE 281,791

And its official price had already been lowered to $30 within almost a month of release, a new record just about.

And uhh m0dus, considering PGR was one of only two 3 Xbox titles to sell over a million copies other than Halo in the US, I think you're treating its bombing awfully casually. I dont see Halo 2 selling poorly, but that guy's example was as flawed as it could possibly be and I was pointing that out.

truism at its best.

Halo 2 is mightily hyped though. Lets see if the late adopters thought Halo was as good as it was hyped up to be when they did get around to pick it up. IMO, it was a 7/10.

i havent seen any sort of indication that halo 2 is gonna sell tons of xboxen. i think people who dont own xboxes dont really care that much. They want san andreas.

Most of them love it regardless of the hype (which was strong), you just need to talk with them. The proof is in the mindblowing number of presales, people want to repeat.

so.. my coloured friend. You saying that homies ain't going to run out and buy GTASA and a new ps2? Or are you saying that they'd be stealing them to get their gaming fix, ergo, not increasing ps2 sales numbers? Or what? Why do you think HALO2 has that great an allure? And what's with the the prophetic spiel for the halo2? uprising? :snicker: Its a console.

I say the gangstas in SA will whoop MC's bony androdic ass. (although he will probably in turn ass rape samus)

It depends what you mean by loads. If you mean an increase in sales by 75% and more from the same time last year, I would say no. If you mean higher sales for the Xbox due to this game perioid, I would say yes.

Keep those blinder on folks it's safer to drive that way. Mark these words Halo 2 will be the most reserved title in history over any other title this year. Gamestop's are averaging anywhere from 400 - 600 reserves. You do the math. I would want to be in the 400 range cause those manager's are getting blessed out.

Yes, it will sell loads of systems this holiday season. No doubt in my mind. The real question should be what are Nintendo and, to a lesser extent, Sony going to do to counter it?

Just the thread? The idiocy of this forum amazes me. And here I thought IGN and GameFAQs were amusing enough as train wrecks.

You can't counter much more than having the 2 biggest selling console franchises this gen (GTA and GT) launching along with MGS3.
