Do You Think Halo 2 Will Sell Loads of Xboxes?

The amount of idiocy in this thread amazes me. Anybody that thinks Halo 2 won't outsell Halo , I will bet $20 each.

I'll bet you $20 bucks. No way Halo2 will OUTSELL Halo. Are you on drugs? The numbers and reality are against it. HALO is cheaper. Halo is already out there and impossible to surpass (if anything, new gamers will also buy HALO after playing 2 or before playing 2)

and finally there wasn't modchips when HALO was released :ZING!:

you paypal me the money.

Yeah, its hard to compare when IGN simply has trolls playing a role and GAF is just rolling in elitist pricks living in denial. That is a rather big difference.

I heard the same shit when Vice City was released, and look what happened. I expect a changed username in the future.

We're getting the samething with SA. It's just what happens when games are really succesful and you've got a gruop of people who don't like them so they hope they do less than the previous ones.

SolidSnakex said:
Now that just isn't happening. I doubt they'll even ship that amount by the end of the year.

It will most certainly sell 4 million + easy.

A couple of games might beat that.

So your saying Halo 2 is going to sell 4 million copies in 2 months?

Even for an Xbot, thats just crazy.

Yes, but as I said before - train wreck. I happen to like a good freakshow.

I'm told there are credible, intelligent posters to be found here and have a friend urging me to "give GAF a chance." Three weeks in, I've yet to find much more than elitist Japanophiles here. In fact, the only nice, stable thread I've seen is the FFXI topic on the online fourm along with other online-centric threads.

Its also my understanding that GAF went through a recent move and in the process earned a bunch of madmen. Perhaps, in time, these crazy people will lose interest in their new toy and find some other forum where they can be bigger degenerates. I'm really just waiting to see if that happens.

We're talking November and December here. 2.5+ million November and 2+ million December.

Well, cut back on attacking other posters (and GAF in general) and calling others "elitist pricks" - otherwise GAF may not give you 2-3 weeks.

Halo 2 = 5 million in 2004

I agree with this mainly because it's going to be a worldwide release all in the same month or so. Bungie will likely have this one in the can by late September and MS will begin production right away. Logistically, this is going to be easier for MS to do thanks to a smaller release list this holiday. I wouldn't be surprised if retail sites don't start having the games at location 2 to 2 1/2 weeks ahead of release date. Someone's gonna break release date and all hell will break loose, relatively speaking. GTA San Andreas and all of the other big hitters on other systems will have an extremely nominal impact on H2's sales as, obviously, they're on PS2 and GC only. With XBOX gaining momentum in system sales, and the marketing of H2 ready to burst out of the gates (hopefully), I also wouldn't be surprised to see MS possibly drop the system price to $129 to spur on sales to those still on the fence. Price drop could happen, but if it did, it would be an incredible one-two punch.

Are you talking about WW or just in the US alone it's going to pull down that amount in that short amount of time?

Look guys in the past we've had great titles that pushed a system. Mario and Zelda lock for Nintendo. Once upon a time FF and now it's MGS and GTA for Sony. M$ has one title that has a calling like that and it's Halo. Now anyone who really played Halo knows you don't play it by yourself. LAN, split screen whatever that's the way you play halo and Halo 2 online is gonna make Xbox Live shine brighter than ever before. EA new this that's why their on now. Between EA and Halo 2 Sony's online looks shattered to pieces now. XBL is where the money will be and that will not stop with Xbox it will extend to the next generations after it (EA new this as well or finally realized it). Sony has to start all over again. Game over online for them if true.

WW. Maybe close to 4 mil in the US alone?

"In a world where Amped 2, Rallisport 2, Project Gotham Racing 2 sold a ridiculous amount lower than their respective non-online prequels. Not that I actually think Halo 2 will bomb like the previously mentioned titles though.. but I'm not entirely sure it's going to do ~3.5 million in the US with the Xbox 2 only a year off."

Only in the wet dreams of Sony and Nintendo fans would Halo 2 not outsell Halo 1 by a considerable margin. That's the sad truth of the matter. If you can't handle the truth, that's your problem ;).

I think it's hard to be so sure about Halo 2 selling a lot more than the first game. How often do sequels sell more than the first game? Let's see some numbers and examples!

No matter how it turns out though, this thread will be entertainment in november/december. :D

People who want Halo 2 are mainly those who own Halo and then those who catch into the hype of the game recently. The latter will probably buy Xboxes for it, or they have a friend to play Multiplayer with. Either way, as for selling systems, it probably cause a nice jump for the month of November, and unless MS does another shippment of the game/system, I expect sales in December to be much lower (as noone will be able to find it). Even though preorders are quite large, it doesn't mean that there are just as much people waiting for it to come out without a preorder; most who are interested probably already preordered it.

"I've yet to find much more than elitist Japanophiles here."

I agree with your initial impression of the forum, as it was my own. But I have to say that over time this place becomes a really good place to discuss games. You just have to ignore the more vocal fans for consoles here. Early this gen it was the Nintendo fans, but as of late it's the Sony fans that are the most aggressive in threads. Just laugh at them and move on. In 2001 / 2002 saying you actually liked the Xbox on the GAF boards would get pitchforks pointed in your general direction ;). So it has improved a little bit.

You can't counter much more than having the 2 biggest selling console franchises this gen (GTA and GT) launching along with MGS3.

I know, that's why I said 'to a lesser extent'. Those franchises are huge but GTA is getting a little long in the tooth for some folks because there have already been 2 games plus a couple of knock offs this gen. It should also be mentioned that with the advent of the GTA-DP being released on the Xbox people are going to be expecting GTA:SA on the Xbox at some point so the PS2 is missing the whole exclusivity thing. I mean it's still there, but people are a little wise to fact that the exclusivity will be for a limited time.

Also, GT and MGS have been around for a long time so anyone who is a fan of those series has most likely already purchased a PS2. Their fanbases have pretty much peaked. Halo is still a relatively new franchise and it still has some growth left in it, IMO. Plus you can bet that MS will be hyping the hell out of Halo 2 with non-stop commercials all throughout the 4th quarter. As much as it pains me to admit it, they are going to give Sony a run for their money this holiday season in the US.

Mock listen to CrimsonSkies he's telling the truth and welcome aboard. :) Oh and get used to interesting titles under your name. Just ignore it and move on.

Not at all.

It may move a few, but most people looking forward to Halo 2 already own Xbox and Halo.

didn't really think that there is such a thing as SONY fanboys.. I find SONYfbs most stable and sombre. They do have the console with the mostest. Thank god for gc/ps2..without them.. gaming = hell.

And that's all that needs to be said.

You know you have this incredible ability to start your posts out very intelligently and sound very reasonable... but somewhere about halfway you almost always degenerate into some type of pitiful fanboy rant.

Will Halo 2 sell consoles? Of course. Will it outsell Halo 1? Of course! Will it sell faster than Halo 1? Of course!

And there have been no other sci fi shooters this gen?

You are looking at this as if all of these titles exist in some type of static universe where nothing grows or changes... Sony and MS have userbases that continue to grow... which means you continue to have people just finding titles for the first time, or jumping off.... by some of the 'logic' you've attempted to use in your posts a title like Madden should not continue to sell more each year.. because it's peaked... and it's long in the tooth. It pains me to admit that your analytical skills are pretty f'n bad.

A strong franchise that has 'strong' sequels will continue to sell to existing and new users. Madden does it... DMC did not.... THQ's wrestling games do it... Acclaim's do not.

Halo STILL manages to sell on average 100k a month. Its STILL selling Xboxes.

Once Halo 2 hits, its going to sell Xbox's. Not only for the Xmas period, but beyond.

So yeah, a lot of units will be shifted

lovely. I like to reintroduce the XBOX2 (might not - might) BC issue with all these xbox sales. M$ is going to have a lot of hataz on their hands if xbox2 does hit end of next year....IF all goes according to plan that is. Yeah to cannibalising sales. Maybe people MIGHT hold off buying a new xbox seeing how the next one is coming 1 year later.

would you guys say that the people who pick up HALO2 are casuals? I wonder...

TheGreenGiant said:

Both the hardcore and casuals play the extremely popular titles...and there are the casuals who are hardcore (insert popular title) players...

what's your point?

"so.. my coloured friend. You saying that homies ain't going to run out and buy GTASA and a new ps2?"

everyone already HAS a ps2.

Halo 2 will move somewhere between 2.5-3 million units in the US before the year ends. It'll still be outsold by San Andreas, Madden 2005 (PS2 version) and Pokemon Fire/Leaf though... in the end I think Halo 2 will surpass Halo by a negligible amount. Neither will pass 4 million sold in the US before Xenon releases (though they'll get close).

Exactly. XBox could outsell PS2 with Halo 2 temporarily.

Not during the holiday season. Even a price drop and Halo 2 couldn't get XBox past PS2 this November/December.

If Bill Gates purchases 1.3 million Xboxen it will easily outsell the PS2.

So Halo 2 and the Xbox will outsell GT4, GTA:SA and MGS3 and the PS2?

As an aside are those GT4 and MGS3 release dates for this fall solid ones?

Last time I checked the PS2 still hasn't outsold the PSone. So it's got room to sell still. The argument with people against the PS2 and how it's sales will go down is that "Everyone already has one" yet it still outsells everything else.

It will sell "a lot" of Xbox Live subscriptions. At least this is where MS is aiming at.

I agree. The focus seems to be Xbox Live subscriptions. Halo 2 = $50 for game + $50 for all those Live renewals.

Yep, PS1 and NES both managed 30+ million in the US alone... PS2 is still at least 5-6 million away from that mark. It should be the best selling console ever here.

Yeah, considering I thought there were only 10 million or so Xboxes sold.. 4 million copies of a new $50 game seems pretty damn crazy!
