Doom Dark Ages rumoured to of sold less than a million copies

I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. Most of 3 million number touted is from Gamepass.

Game looks like babies first bullet hell. No one asked for parrying and the likes in a Doom either, physical being a game key, £70 for a Doom with no MP (Granted. Eternal PVP was dogshit) and they get what they deserve for fucking over Mick Gordon

Take with a pinch of salt of course.

According to Alinea Analytics, by the time the announcement was made, The Dark Ages had actually sold less than a million copies – 800,000 to be exact.

Of those 800,000 sales, Alinea estimates 200,000 were on PlayStation 5, 200,000 on Xbox, and 400,000 on Steam. The remaining players are said to have accessed The Dark Ages through Xbox Game Pass, effectively paying $12 instead of the $70 US retail price to play the game.

Sad if true. But I doubt the game is trash.
I played half of Eternal and the game was solid, even though I'm in 2016 bucket.

Stardew 'Fantasylife' is doing better numbers than blockbuster Doom.

If this turns out to be true, I wouldn't be surprised. I imagined most were going to play on the subscription service. That is the whole point of gamepass. I would be more interested in if these recent Gamepass releases has given MS a sub bump, or are they still stuck at the 30M ceiling they seem to have.

These analysts can only perform very crude estimates based on very incomplete information. They're basically doing the same thing VG-Chartz did back in the day, but VG-Chartz had more info to work with.

It just looked bad. I've wanted a return to the original Quake aesthetic for decades now but I didn't want to block and frisbee a shield around waiting to be allowed to shoot things.

Obviously it would flop
That's why Bethesda's board accepted the purchase by MS.

It's clear from Phil's leaked emails that he was acting like a "spoiled brat with a daddy card."

Obviously that would be the outcome.

Phill Spencer is an idiot who's good at fooling others. He'd make a great Cult leader.

Honestly I think it looks awesome but $70 for a 14 hour single player FPS is a hard purchase to justify, especially when it released around the same time as a bunch of other kickass games (Oblivion remaster, Clair Obscur, Fantasy Life, etc).

I'll definitely pick it up at some point, probably wait for a sale though.

Holy shit that is surprising. Thats also depressing.

It's always amazing when you see these numbers and think about how many people don't play video games. 2 out of my 10 coworkers have played this doom which is a statistical anomaly

Bro wtf, thats sales number for indie games LOL!

its decent. And why would you want Doom to be Quake?

Worst take of the week and its only Tuesday.

I'd suggest you try it instead of this "looks like" nonsense, game is dope. Shield mechanics are fun and you aren't "waiting around" for anything.

Analysts might have access to circana/GSD data which covers north America, and alot of Europe and UK. It would be alot better then vgchartz.

Although having said that I don't trust this analyst firm.

200k on playstation and 200k on Xbox, surejan.

for any high profile game on game pass to be considered a sucesss (on Game Pass) it should reach between 5-10M.

AND it should sell copies in the same range. So, between GP and copies sold, the game should reach between 10-20M players. otherwise the game is a comercial flop.

As 👏🏻simple 👏🏻as 👏🏻that

As if we needed more proof that allocating resources to try and appeal to everyone, doesn't translate in to sales.

This kind of thinking brings us all tje bloated garbage.

There is no value if 80% of the stuff you are doing is filler content.

I don't know anything about Circana these days, but they also have less info to work with than they used to because digital storefronts don't supply data like retailers. I also don't know how often Circana refreshes the data they send to clients and what limitations Circana puts on the data they send to clients.

It's reasonable at this point to assume we simply have no idea how well most games sell. The addition of GamePass and stuff muddying the waters makes the situation worse.

Amazing W for the singleplayer FPS camp.

Seriously though, what did people expect? It's a boomer shooter.

Even going by Ampere you're looking at ~1M sold (500K PS5 sales estimated).

Too early for Circana anyway, won't have data before mid-June

In other news.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold 3.3 million copies worldwide

So… that game was on GP too….. what gives Microsoft? Maybe the price was too high.

I'm not gonna dick ride iD because of how much I liked 16 & Eternal and buy something I personally think looks shit. More so at £70.

Modern Doom has never sold a ton.

I think 2016 and eternal sold 3-5 million lifetime each?

1 million for this new one is about right at launch with gamepass involved.

MS really should stop throwing money down the shitter with gamepass. Its going to cost us more studios.

I really liked Doom 2016 but kept hearing that Eternal really dropped the ball, so I haven't been keeping my eye on this latest one. Eternal got pretty bad word-of-mouth overall, so could that have affected the sales?

I ended up skipping it because only having 85MB of data on the physical disc when the game could've fit on the disc put me off from ever buying it.

Sounds like it's GP revenue to the rescue again to save a good game, and not the buy to own gamers. You're welcome.

Sucks for physical folks, but if that's the reason then you must miss out on a fuck ton of games.

I still don't trust Alinea analytics and how they randomly just have exact sales figures.

Either way I wouldn't be surprised if Gamepass was a big factor. It's a 12-15 hours single player game with limited replay value, it's the ideal sort of title to just "rent" on gamepass instead of spending $70 on it. Not to mention with Oblivion and Expedition 33 in the previous weeks a lot of people might have been playing those on gamepass already, so you just add another month to also play Doom (and maybe finish up the other 2)

Well, Expedition 33 reviewed better, had more positive buzz online and is a longer game that launched for $45 instead of $70.
