Doom Dark Ages rumoured to of sold less than a million copies

A well reviewed, gameplay heavy, adult focused, traditional single player FPS based on a beloved franchise with no MTX or loot boxes or forced multiplayer sells like shit.

And we wonder why we just keep seeing more GAAS games and Fortnite and Madden every year.

Game looks like babies first bullet hell
The dumbest shit

I think the game looks good, but pricepoint and denuvo made me skip it. Will only get it when they remove the bloatware and on sale.

The game is great sucks for ID that the game is not selling more….
Think its a few of factors.

Gamepass obviously.

Ridiculous pricing.

Eternal turned alot of people off, no matter what those that loved it would tell you.

Then this seems to have alienated the Enteral crowd as well.

Shame as its a great game, finished it just last night

For me not including the game on disc was a dealbreaker, I'm not going to support a shitty practice from one of the wealthiest companies on the planet. I'll get a cheap Game Pass in a few months and play it then.

I'm doing my parts buying two copy's for friends now.

In other news.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold 3.3 million copies worldwide

So… that game was on GP too….. what gives Microsoft? Maybe the price was too high.

It's nowhere near as good a game as Expedition 33 for a start.

Sucks for physical folks, but if that's the reason then you must miss out on a fuck ton games.
Nah, they just use it as an excuse for games they weren't gonna buy anyway.

When it's something they really want disc contents will be ignored/not mentioned

Sucks to see, the game is solid.

Enjoyed it more than Eternal, even if both miss the point of 2016 not trying to push the story so hard.

I bought a physical copy

I loved it (despite Level 21 being completely broken until they patched it a few days ago)

But they shouldn't have fucked over Mick Gordon

It would've flopped at a lower price as well.

The higher price is most likely just to soften the blow.
Has it flopped though? With MS and there stupid metrics we'll never know.

The game was never going to sell more than 3-4 million regardless.

There are plenty other games that tick all the boxes you listed (other than being an FPS) which manage to sell well.

Not sure what all the melodrama is for.

This is the eternal effect. People bougth Doom Eternal, didn't like, so the sequel lost potential sales.
I said this earlier in the thread. Couple it with people who love Eternal seems to be cold on this one and here we are.

I think it will do ok in the long run with sales and whatnot as its a great game.

Alinea estimates 200,000 were on PlayStation 5, 200,000 on Xbox, and 400,000 on Steam.

Bro wtf, thats sales number for indie games LOL!

It's pretty crazy that PS and Xbox would have the same sales given that Xbox has Gamepass. I'd think Xbox would have the weakest sales for that reason. Of course there could be other aspects at play such as demographics of console buyers, but still.

Yes PC has GP too, but I think you can assume Xbox console users will skew towards the service in a way you can't assume on PC.

I will eventually get it for like 85eur in cdkeys I thought they went a bit nuts. I can easily wait it out for this one.

Yep, £70 is way too much for this. 10 hour campaign? Will wait for a deep sale (which based on the sales numbers, won't be too far away)

To be fair I dont think Clair was on anyones bingo card at all. I had it pegged at a solid 70-80 MC type game before release.
Still, sometimes we have those games that score super high but sell poorly, even after knowing how good the game is, i doubt anyone could predict 3,3 mil copies sold...

It would've sold much better with a 60$ pricepoint. No one is going to blow 80 bucks for a 15 hours linear game.
If other recent Xbox releases are anything to go by, it barely would've mattered.

People just need to come to terms with the fact that the general public doesn't care about Xbox output.
Even GP subscribers barely seem to care. That's even more telling.

That French turn based game costs almost half the price
And? There are a truckload of games that cost as much as exp33 and don't sell 3,3 mil copies, gta6 is gonna probably cost 90 dollars and it is gonna sell 50 mil in the first day, your point being?

Also, On sites like cdkey the difference in price is way lower than the official prices.

Personally I didn't like Eternal and this game seemed kind of iffy with even more story emphasis and lack of any MP.

And the game was $70+ on to of that. I am sure I will try it at some point when I get a month or three of GamePass to try out a few games, but there is no way I am going to spend the money being asked.

I do wonder how much better it would have done with being on Gamepass.

Seems like a success all round but I'd bet my left bollock the dev's won't want any potential sequel launching day one on the service.

Ive enjoyed TDA a lot, dont think its as good as Eternal, but its certainly a lot more enjoyable. Now, questionable source aside this would honestly be a good thing, i am glad people refuse to spend 80 euros to play a delayed access game.

The numbers deserve to be even lower than this and looking at the number of players on steam i hope they actually are in reality (the game was/is also free for RTX 50 series buyers)
