I never saw use for them, but the fact you can use them in steam broadcast chat is pretty cool

Pretty shitty you can't use ingame dota 2 emoticons in steam broadcast

Just use livestreamer, and likestreamer twitch gui for your streaming needs. Believe me when I say that twitch doesn't work for me.

To download live streamer for mac you need to use python

I've been using livestreamer on my MacBook for an year and a half and I remember installing it in, like, 10 minutes.

I don't remember the details, but I'm sure I followed this guide to install Python: http://docs.python-guide.org/en/latest/starting/install/osx/
I already had X Code (and VLC) installed, but that's pretty much all about it.
After installing Python I only run

sudo easy_install -U livestreamer

to install it.
And

sudo easy_install --upgrade livestreamer

to update it, when needed.
