DOTA 2 |OT9| League of Ancients (6.84)

I stopped playing Gaf in houses because most of the old HoN crew was just too toxic to play with. If you weren't part of that crew or a DotA savant or a fan of being talked to by a bunch of KingRaven/MoonMeander wannabes there was no point in taking part in DotA2 GAF IHL.

I can't speak for then, but it's good now. Occasional salt, but nothing significant. Most are just happy to be playing with better players than they'd see in solo pubs.

Bro. I've been a spectator in this thread for at least a year now, probably 2-3. 95% of the time your posts are garbage that is basically flaming your pub teammates, complaining about MMR, or anxiety/melting down from arguments. 5% you post stuff that is actually good discussion.

As for the rest of the thread, everyone posts like twitch chat but most of them have great points, offer discussion, or at least are setting up games. If your play is anything like your posts - no wonder you ignore what others say. It really says something when 1.09, Sanjay, AND Inkls post great advice and you're still going on a crusade about thread injustice.

Last - do you not notice most of the drama revolving around you? Now, or about that drama a month or so back with the guy on your team that played supporty and you and him had a butthurt contest here about it with you linking the match and calling him out? This isn't even a rare thing now - shits worse than the Smash threads. You need a serious break or to not get so invested in this shit.

I understand that and have actually improved on that lately. It's been a while since I have complained about teammates and it's something I am working to stop doing. I admit I have a problem getting angry about teammates and am actively trying to improve.

back with the guy on your team that played supporty and you and him had a butthurt contest here about it with you linking the match and calling him out?

Regarding this bit you have the facts wrong, as he was one that did the calling out. However that's all I'm going to say on that matter.

That's fair enough. I don't really have a lot of time to play DotA2 anymore but I'm glad to hear the GAF IHL has improved.

I do kind of agree with the premise that Hylian makes everything about him as well and that he's not particularly open to criticism.

I beat 109s mid Kotl once.

that's more than 99% of us. I'll never beat his mid anything. Maybe if he went mid Crystal Maiden.

You can always just stop in for a random game. There are new lobbies damn near every hour after about 6PM EST. I'm sure we'd love to have some with that much experience. Most of us aren't very good and don't have a lot of good players to play with to understand what the bad habits are or how to phase them out.

I haven't had time to play dota lately outside of one IHL game a week. This patch is overwhelming. I'm gonna be so bad for a while.

According to reddit channeling spells persist after Lifestealer aghs eats them. We are going to see some seriously broken shit in the next couple weeks.

Disagree with the bolded, it's often made about me before I have anything to do with it.

The latter I am improving on.

was like that for phoenix aghs when that got added. it got fixed in test client, this will be as well

patch might even be delayed till monday with how much shit cleaning still has to be done, and that's without the compendium stuff of which we know nothing about yet

I'm a 2k tier player with like 500 hours of DotA2 experience. I played 3 years of League and finished at the same Elo every year. So basically I have plenty of empirical data that I'm just dog shit at these games and I'm totally okay with it. I play with the Madden GAF crew when I do play, but I live on the west coast and don't get home until after 7pm PST/10pm est and I usually don't want to go straight to playing video games.

I legit don't have any ill will towards old DotA2 gaf, I was bad, I got yelled at a lot because I'm bad and I moved on because I didn't want to waste my time or others. No biggie.

Yo swift you think blink+scepter will be legit on offlane nyx or nah?
I always felt like crap after one power nap(those are the 30 mins ones?)
Good power naps are about 20min depending. You're not actually trying to sleep just rest your eyes and breathe deep for a bit. Try meditation!

oh word. well the random GAF in house matches go well past 3AM EST most nights, so you'll have no problem finding a match to run in. Are you in the GAF guild? Slot openings are always posted there.

I'd attribute that to growing pains. The HoN ihl's and the dota ihl were very different beasts, mostly because they were hosted by a small, tight-knit community that was all about the flamey inside jokes and casual trash talk. The community grew much larger with dota 2, but hongaf didn't really adapt or welcome that larger community.

IHL 2 is very different. There's very little straight malevolent flaming outside of a few rare occurrences, and there are strict rules punishing and preventing such occurrences. Now this isn't to say that it's all anti-fun. I explicitly left out rules like classic "no all chat" rule and the like, because I want this to be a fun league. I want new inside jokes, jabs, and friendships to arise. I don't want rules for the sake of rules—this isn't TI or a social justice league. It's just a fun one, and I don't want to strangle all the amusement out of it with arbitrary rules.

HOWEVER, I do want to make one thing clear. We usually get quite a few new people coming into mumble after these IHL's and the like and that's fine. But just know—Mumble is not this forum. Mumble is not IHL. Mumble is just our hang out. Flaming and inside jokes abound—unchecked. That isn't going to change lol.

I know I auto log into the GAF channel but I can't remember if I'm actually in the guild. I've only played like 4 matches of DotA2 in the past 3 or so months, and half of those were with Madden GAF.

I think that's all fair enough, and I think since I was not part of that crew I naturally felt out of place. I obviously could have either dedicated the time to become part of it OR moved on. Since I don't have the free time to really get into it I didn't. I'm not bitter about it and I totally understand WHY it was the way it was. And like I said, it is good to hear that there has been progress into making a community that maybe is more for the general GAF populace than just an old boys club. There's nothing wrong with having both at all.

Ehh... the number of hours you put into a game are meaningless if you aren't actively setting out to learn new things, and adapting to situations as they appear. I recommend watching pro games from player perspectives, or mechanic guides from channels like Relax You're Fine. You won't become a pro just by playing a game a lot, and conversely, just because you're stagnating doesn't mean you'll be garbage forever. It does take a bit of a time investment that not everyone wants to make though, which is understandable.

tf2 gaf sort of lives on through the various "extra" channels on the dota mumble, usually either stacking for dota matches, teasing those who haven't made the jump yet (ZEKE), or playing cards

tbh techies is the premier zeketheplumber gaming experience

Man I have yet to try it. But I do think blink scepter on that hero will be very useful and will allow you to be even more of an annoying threat on the map. Especially since 109 found out you can force yourself in burrow. Gonna have to go to the lab and try out a few of the new items on the hero. It's a good time to be a nyx player

Pretty much. The other day I was actually helping teach someone new to the game (they had never played LoL or any other MOBA at all), so I had to teach them EVERYTHING, and boy was there a lot. I know there were some things I just simply skipped for now as they aren't worth talking about until they understand some other things, like Ancients for instance.

I have never seen 109 to be nice to anyone. I'm sorry but it is true. No idea why he says he is with admitted new players.

Tbh he always has been nice in the games he played with me. He was like "you should do this and that" after he die for the third time triple ganked mid and no one counter-tp (because supports are useless and should stand like statues in their lanes) and the only times i saw him flame someone was when that someone went like "fuck you i do it like this" after the fifteenth death which can get frustrating as this game already is nerve shattering.

You all haven't been around real flamers who get permamuted or low prio. Keep in mind even lifetime friends will flame you hard sometimes in games, understanding that those are spur of the moment things and talking about them after and laughing about them is what make relationships work. Else it's all fake posturing.

burrow + force staff + spiked carapace + impale will function like a ghetto ravage.

Now this is a 5k answer right here. You on your way GZZ ^_^

I've only ever played with 1.09 once and he was an enormous asshole at the time. He has a reputation as a rager which I imagine is not unwarranted.

LOL the poor mans ravage I like it. For real tho with the increased range on his spells in burrow he's gonna be such a threat in fights. And if you get that Octavian core item which I want to try on him well then mana burn and stuns for days

team was getting shit pushed in, 109 encouraged me to split-farm/rat since only one hero could really stop me. We lost, but I had more farm than I would've otherwise.

nice, did you right-click the ranged creep 1-2 times before popping remnant tho hue

Truth, I played zero impact exp leech support for a few hundred games and barely improved, and recently transitioned to playing heavy farming carries and bringing that attitude of efficiency to every role I play and I've improved exponentially in a short amount of time thanks to changes in mindset. Still a long, long way to go but that's the fun of Dota!

We need a 1.09 anonymous club. Hi I'm X, and I was flamed by 1.09. I remember the first time 1.09 flamed me...

Legit though, 1.09 will flame people at times, but like GZZZ and kard said, he does often give good advice—it's just a little... unfiltered and abrasive in the heat of the game. That's why I always recommend newbies with thin skin mute him in IH's (for the benefit of both you and him), but if you have thick skin or don't let internet smack get to you, he can be pretty helpful at times.

Outside of the game however (as you can see on GAF), if you genuinely want good advice, he can give it.

OK this proves he just hate me :( why 109. Yeah I'm worst than I once though but really, paralysis is a bitch to deal with. Plus 100ms ping lol. Anyway if gzz says I'm wrong I think I may be wrong about 109.
