the maps are visually different (i.e. different geometry) but the underlying map (i.e. where you can move, etc.) are the same

They aren't, there are a few small spots where the map and whats underneath are different. My friend had an issue where he placed a ward on the radiant riverside midlane and it was in the river, but the ward was visually on the cliff. This was the new international map.

Where his crosshair is, the ward just goes through what looks like the cliff and is actually in the river.

I think he's referring to the fact that you can apparently clear most of the content in the game now without ever really interacting with anyone. I never really got into WoW so I don't know if that's actually true or an exaggeration.
This. Especially because carries in my mmr don't like buying bkb.
Isn't that true to practically all MMOs? The only one I played was GW2 and apart from dungeons I did everything alone.
